Summary
In 1980s rural China, Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo grow up side by side finding quiet safety in each other in a world that has no language for what they feel.
When violence forces Yibo and his mother to flee without explanation, silence and misunderstanding sever them, leaving Xiao Zhan to grow up waiting and Yibo to survive elsewhere carrying an unhealed absence.
