Summary:

You only get one first impression, Daisuke.

Work Text:

Daisuke Bucklesby was a beacon for trouble. He didn’t always go searching for it but it was always there, waiting in the shadows for him like a cat stalking a mouse. Well, if that mouse had a habit of thieving from old farts who had more than enough money to live fat and happy for the rest of their lives. Normally, nabbing an extra briefcase from some highfalutin business man on a train would be easy as pie. Daisuke wasn’t ready for his attack dog though.

“It’d be in your best interests to hand that back before you get hurt,” the mad woman shouted over the wind whipping past the train.

Daisuke was apparently getting rusty, getting spotted by this woman and then immediately chased through every train car and out the hatch on the top of the train. Her gun was trained on him. It appeared to be end of the line for the middle-aged bandit

“No need to be a hero, little lady,” Daisuke shouted, briefcase in one hand and Biscuit in the other, a cocky smirk on his face despite the dire situation he found him in.

The train roared down the tracks towards the tunnel, threatening to kill the two passengers—well one passenger and one stowaway— balancing on top of it.

“Hero’s a fun way to spin it. I’d just like my research grant back, Bucklesby.”

Daisuke blinked, startled by the fact that this strange woman seemed to recognize him. Sure, he was the most wanted man in Pilby, but he was certain his disguise obscured his appearance.

“Oh I’d recognize that devilish smirk anywhere, Mr. Bucklesby, even with that nifty disguise you’ve got there,” she answered his unspoken question, cocking the gun, “Now hand over my research money and I’ll let you rob some other rich geezer.”

Judging by her outfit, she was some sort of aviator. Daisuke had heard tales of air craft making leaps and bounds due to one woman, Macleod. She was apparently just as insane as the rumors had led him to believe, chasing an armed robber and having a stand off on the top of a moving train.

She was also beautiful. Despite her threats, glee colored her features as she grinned wickedly at the bandit and Daisuke’s heart skipped a beat as she waved her own revolver at him.

“Just one thing,” Daisuke hollered, setting the briefcase down in front of him.

Comfrey raised her eyebrows, her curiosity obviously piqued by the outlaw and gestured for him to continue.

“Do you believe in ghosts?”

With that, he kicked the briefcase towards her, leaping backwards off the train as she lunged for it and landing on the horse he had staged nearby just as Macleod started shouting. Wads of cash weighed heavy in his pocket as he rode towards the nearest town, the image of a scientist opening a briefcase filled with wanted posters with his face on it flooded his mind. Somehow he knew he’d see her again.
