Work Text:

“It’s really coming down out there, isn’t it?” Jade observes obviously.

Sunny glances towards the window, past which is a torrential downpour of rain. “Let’s not think about that.”.

Jade leans back in her chair and shrugs. She’s designing makeup looks for the hair she’s already designed and had approved. She looks back to her sketchbook.

Sunny taps her stylus on the side of her tablet while trying to discern if she needs to redraw something. She settles on redoing the left hand because hands are a conundrum.

 “We should go outside.”.

“What? Are you crazy?” Sunny objects.

Jade sits up. “Come on, you’re never too old to frolic in the rain.”.

“I guess that’s a fair point.”. Sunny turns her tablet off, gets up, and stretches. “But we should get our jackets, we can’t get sick, not with Ms Wright breathing down our necks about deadlines.”.

“Okay Jade, I’m-! Why are you wearing shorts?”.

Jade stands in full raingear, except for her bottoms, which are her usual shorts. “Eh, I’ll be fine.”.

“Your legs are gonna freeze, and I don’t wanna have to carry you back inside.” Sunny brings up.

“New York winters are brutal, and I can wear shorts during them and live. Come on, Sunny.”.

Sunny sighs. “It’s your potential frostbite.”.

They trudge out into the rain, all snug in their jackets. Despite having exchanged no communication whatsoever, they converge on going in the direction of the pond. The surface is disturbed by the drops falling from the sky, everything reflected distorted by the ripples.

“Did I ever tell you I prefer sunny days?” Sunny pipes.

“I still can’t believe your parents named you so perfectly. I mean, it’s like your name tells people everything they need to know about you.”.

“Maybe not everything,” Sunny wagers “but yeah, I do have basically the perfect name.”.

They stand in silence, watching the rippling pond and listening to the rain.

“Honestly, it’s not bad.” Sunny says suddenly, breaking the silence. “I can see why Luna likes it so much.”.

“Your sister, huh.” Jade muses. “It’s kinda weird I’ve never seen you too together, at least not a lot.”.

“Well, we hung out all the time as kids, but now it’s just weird, because she’s going to Shadow High, and, y’know.”.

“I’m an only child, so I’ve never really dealt with that.”.

“Ah, siblings.” Sunny chuckles “It’s nice to have someone around, at least when you’re younger, but you don’t even want to know what me and Luna got up to together.”.

 “Well now I wanna know.”.

Sunny giggles.

Jade begins to pace around, boots skimming the mud. Sunny follows. She shakes her head to clear off the water that’s settled on her hat, setting off off a spray of droplets in the process.

“Hey!” Jade laughs, bringing up her hands to shield her makeup from the water.

“It’s wet like crazy anyway, have a little fun.”.

They walk away from the pond and to the puddle-covered field.

“You made it sound like we’d be doing more frolicking, and I’m a little disappointed we haven’t done any yet.” Sunny says.

“We can start now if you’d like.” Jade assures.

Sunny looks to her, then starts prancing around the field, which is hard, because one wrong move and she would wipe out hard. Jade takes a careful step, then joins her.

I'm falling off guys, this is a pretty dumb fic
