Work Text:

It dropped out of Wednesday’s notebook…right at Enid’s feet…

Enid stared right at the paper while Wednesday walked out of the classroom, unaware she had dropped something.

“Since when does Wednesday write romance?” Enid wondered and held back a chuckle as she trotted next to her bestie.

“Howdy, Willa.” She said smugly, “You dropped something.” Enid handed her the piece of paper, making Wednesday stop in her tracks.

She looked at Enid’s smug smile and down to the paper she had in her hand, knowing very well what it said, but before she could reach for it, Enid pulled her hand back, “That was so romantic. Didn’t know you had it in you.” She teased and now slightly blushy, Wednesday, “Is it for the novel?”

Wednesday huffed, snatching the paper out of Enid’s hand, “That is not of your concern.” She pocketed it and started walking away.

Enid, not being one to let things go, rushed by her side, “OMG, don’t tell me, THE Wednesday Addams is in love?!” She gasped as the tip of Wednesday’s knife poked menacingly at her ribs, “Say that again and your pelt will be adorning my home’s living room this Christmas.”

Enid’s smile only widened, “You wouldn’t dare.” She said confidently matching Wednesday’s heavy stare-down. “So, who’s the lucky guy?”

Wednesday’s gaze faltered, and Enid’s smile dropped, switched by a questioning look, “…girl?”

Wednesday pulled away abruptly, “There are very few people I tolerate in this world…”

“Oh come on, Willa!” Enid whined, “Am I gonna have to guess?” She huffed.

Wednesday rolled her eyes and kept walking, slower this time.

“Um, ok…let’s see.” Enid started, counting on her fingers, “There’s Eugene, who can’t be it because he’s like your brother and that would be weird…”

Wednesday closed her eyes and took a subtle deep breath as she counted them down.

“It’s not Tyler again, is it? Because that would be sooooo toxic.” Enid continued, “Xavier’s long gone and he was a creep…and not in the good way.” They reached the dorm, walking in, “Yoko and Divina are out…which leaves Bianca?” Enid tilted her head like a curious puppy, “But…but you guys are too much alike…that would be so freaky, tho I guess you’re into that?”

Wednesday slammed her books on her desk, vividly growing tiered in Enid’s antics, “It is NOT Barclay or any of the previously mentioned individuals. I insist you stop being so curious, for your own good.” She walked into their shared bathroom, closing the door behind her, leaving a still questioning Enid.

“But if it’s not any of them, then…the only one left is…” She looked up at the closed door, “…me…”

Wednesday walked out to a completely silent Enid, sitting on her bed with a blank stare.

“It’s…me…” Enid whispered, getting up, “Willa?”

Wednesday turned, “What now, Enid?”

Enid crossed the invisible line. “Is it me?”

Wednesday looked away, “I cannot answer that.”

Enid blinked, taking a few tentative steps forward, “It is me…” She mumbled, closing her eyes and taking in Wednesday’s scent, “I…”

Before she could stop herself, her arms were wrapped around Wednesday’s waist, her face tucked into the nook of her neck. “Willa…”

Wednesday’s stiff body melted into Enid’s personal space, “That took you long enough…there are very few people I tolerate and…only one that I love…” She turned to face Enid, “I wanted to give you the note in class today, but…”

Enid smiled, “You chickened out?” She bumped her shoulder playfully, earning a scowl, “The moment was not right.”

“And how about now? Is the moment right, now?” Enid asked timidly.

Wednesday held her hand, planting soft kisses along the top of her fingers, “You have cursed me, Enid.” She kissed her palm and wrist, “Cursed me to be eternally enthralled by you, Cara Mia…”

Enid felt Wednesday’s lips ghost hers and knew. The words on that note sinking into her brain, into her bones…
