"I'm sorry."
May looked up from the menu she'd been reading. She should have known there was a reason Toni offered to take her out for, Peter was a little too quick to agree when May asked if he'd be alright by himself. "Excuse me?"
"For, uh.. bringing Pete to Germany without telling you. And also for not telling you about the whole Spider-Man thing," Toni explained, wincing. "Sorry."
"You're apologizing now?" May asked, not even trying to hide her disapproval.
"Yep! I realized I've never actually apologized for that. And Pete said I probably should before I asked you out." The last part of the sentence was muttered, quiet enough that May almost didn't catch it.
"Before you what?" Maybe May was hearing her wrong, or maybe Toni misspoke. There was no way she was actually planning to ask May out, right?
"Hmm? What? I—I didn't say anything." Okay, nevermind. She was definitely planning to ask May out.
"No, I'm pretty sure you said something."
"Did I?"
"Mhm."
"Well, uh, if I did, y'know.. how would you feel 'bout that?"
May laughed. Of course Toni had no problem barging into her apartment earlier, but got shy now.
"I don't know," she responded, shrugging with feined nonchalance. "How about you ask and we'll find out."
