Work Text:
Rumi closed the nursery’s door with a soft click and lingered in the hallway for a few seconds, listening to the gentle sound of Ji-ho’s breathing on the other side. The apartment felt different now. No longer tense, no longer heavy with unspoken things. Maybe it still felt a little fragile sometimes, but it was finally whole again.
When she returned to the living room, Zoey was balancing three wine glasses like it was a high-risk mission.
“If I spill this, I’m officially never getting invited to adult nights again.” The maknae muttered, setting the glasses down on the coffee table. Mira was already sprawled across the couch, legs stretched out, looking dangerously pleased. Rumi sat by her side.
“So…” The pink haired hunter began, picking up her glass and slowly swirling the wine, “now that we’re not fighting, not in shock, and not pretending we don’t know anything… I can finally interrogate you like a responsible friend would”
Rumi felt her stomach drop before the hit even landed.
“Mira-”
Zoey immediately sat beside Rumi, raising a hand. “Preemptive objection. My client has been through enough emotionally.”
“Overruled,” Mira replied without even looking at her. “Because the question is simple.”
The Huntr/x’s leader already knew nothing good was coming. Mira leaned forward slightly, a provocative smile playing on her lips.
“How did you and Jinu make Ji-ho?”
Then came the kind of silence that screamed. Rumi choked on air.
“MIRA!”
Zoey almost spat out her wine. “Oh my God! ” She laughed, tapping her glass on the table. “Do you have any filter?!”
“I waited months for this!” Her curious friend shot back, offended. “I find out I have a secret nephew and you expect me to pretend he just appeared out of nowhere? I need to know at least if the dick was worth it.”
Rumi buried her face in her hands, heat flooding her cheeks.
“You’re impossible…”
“Oh, she's blushing.” Zoey announced with delight. “That means it’s a good story.”
“Zoey!” Rumi chided.
“What? I’m spiritually on her side.”
Mira crossed her arms.
“Look, I don’t need graphic details. Just… historical context.”
The woman who was being interrogated took a breath, still hiding her face between her fingers.
“Okay.” She hesitated. “It was on the last night we met.”
Both of them went quiet instantly.
“Go on.” Zoey said, now genuinely invested.
Rumi lowered her hands, staring at her glass like it held answers.
“We talked a bit about everything. About what we were, about what we could never be. I remember thinking it wouldn't be the last time I ever saw him.”
Mira’s teasing smile softened just a little.
“It’s always those nights…” She murmured, taking a sip of wine.
Rumi smiled faintly.
“It was unnecessarily intense.” She laughed nervously. “I remember thinking, ‘this is going to go wrong.’ And at the same time… it felt too right.”
Zoey rested her chin in her hand.
“So Ji-ho was conceived in emotional chaos?”
“Pretty much.” The superstar said. “Who would have thought I'd end up with a baby made of bad decisions and unresolved feelings.”
Mira let out a low laugh.
“Iconic…” She paused as if thinking before continuing. "But it's funny that a guy so old has never heard about condoms."
“Mira!” Rumi and Zoey squealed together.
“What?”
Rumi finally relaxed, leaning back into the couch.
“As you already know, when I found out about the pregnancy Jinu was already gone. And then…” Her voice wavered for a second. “Then everything got too quiet.”
The maknae gently touched her arm, no dramatics.
She looked at both of her friends, eyes shining. “That’s why I was so afraid to tell you. Not of being judged… but of losing this. Us.”
Mira raised her glass.
“Hey. You did something incredible under awful circumstances. That doesn’t push you away from us.”
Zoey lifted hers too.
“And Ji-ho is kind of impossible not to love, so you basically cheated.”
Rumi laughed, wiping away a tear she hadn’t noticed forming.
“You’re ridiculous.”
“We are.” Mira agreed. “But we’re your ridiculous sisters.”
The three of them clinked their glasses, the soft sound echoing through the room. Between more gossip and confessions, the three friends lost track of time. And the outside world ceased to exist for a moment. For their sisterhood, it was enough.
