Work Text:

The first days of snowfall began in Korea in mid-December, white littering the streets as winter fully settled in. Sangwon had always adored the snow, he thought it was beautiful and he still loved playing in it despite his age. It reminded him of his childhood, building snowmen with his older sisters, sitting by the window with a warm cup of hot chocolate in his hand as the snow fell upon his backyard. It was bittersweet and his mood always lightened when winter finally began, his favourite season, a season that made him feel happy.

He had expressed his love for the snow to Leo many times, always talking about how excited he was now that the weather was getting colder because it meant the snow would be following suit. Leo wasn't the biggest fan of the snow, having grown up in Australia for his entire childhood meant he wasn't the most fond of it. He enjoyed the summertime, it reminded him of home. However, when Sangwon insisted they go out in the snow, Leo could only nod in agreement not wanting to miss up the opportunity to see the boy he was in love with happy. And today? Well it was the perfect day for Leo to finally ask Sangwon to be his boyfriend.

Leo had been planning to ask him for the past few weeks now, having met back in October and spending not a single day apart since then, he knew it was finally time. He had it planned out, they'd go to the park nearby Sangwon's apartment, the one with the pretty Christmas lights hooked up to the trees, illuminating the park at nighttime and casting a soft glow over the white snow that littered the grass. There was always the same coffee truck parked there, serving late night coffee that Sangwon always loved to get whenever they were out for their usual late night strolls together. They hadn't been to the park since the snowfall had begun and tonight was going to be the night to change that.

It was simple, but it was something Leo knew Sangwon would enjoy.

Sangwon was busy getting ready in his bedroom, applying a little bit of makeup despite it being dark outside, but he always loved getting a little dolled up for Leo whenever they went out—even if it was something as simple as a night walk. A knock came at his front door, the usual rhythmic pattern that Leo had created to let Sangwon know it was him whenever he knocked; a smile growing on his face. He put his eyeshadow brush down, quickly rushing through his apartment, his socked feet pattering lightly on the floor. He flung open the door quickly, shocking Leo a little as he stood in the hall of his apartment building, his large coat hanging from his arm.

"Hi, baby." A big smile grew on Leo's face as he stepped closer, wrapping his arms around Sangwon and planting a light kiss against the top of his head, causing a giggle to slip from the boy's mouth. Leo stepped in properly, shutting the door behind him with his foot, "Are you ready?" Leo hummed, his arms still around Sangwon as he rocked them side to side slowly.

"Almost- I just need a few more minutes." Sangwon slipped out of Leo's arms, quickly rushing back to his bedroom and sitting back down at his vanity to finish getting ready. Leo made himself comfortable on Sangwon's couch, not bothering to follow his boyfriend. Sangwon hated when Leo watched him apply his makeup because it made him nervous and he always fucked up his eyeliner or smudged his lip gloss whenever he did, so he had made it abundantly clear to Leo that he was never allowed to watch him when he was applying it. Sangwon hummed along to the music playing from his phone beside him, applying a light layer of blush on his cheeks, and finishing his makeup off with a little bit of eyeliner to make his eyes pop in the Christmas lights.

"I'm doneeee" Sangwon slinked out of his room, waltzing over to Leo who was busy scrolling on his phone on the couch. Sangwon stood in front of him, quickly grabbing Leo's phone and chucking it to the side of him before straddling Leo's lap with a giggle. Sangwon cupped Leo's cheeks in his hands and planted a chaste kiss against his lips before quickly pulling back which earned him a frown from the other boy. He kissed him again, a little longer this time, and a little bit deeper. Leo's hands instinctively found Sangwon's waist as he pulled him a closer to him, the kiss continuing without breaking for a second.

Eventually Leo pulled away with a breathy laugh, Sangwon pouted at him, slumping slightly in his lap. "We need to get going, my love, otherwise the coffee truck's going to close before we get there! I heard they have a special drink at the moment for the holiday season." Leo spoke softly, his hand coming up to lightly brush Sangwon's hair behind his ears which made him blush just a little. Sangwon nodded and slipped off of his lap, walking slowly over to the front door and slipping his sneakers on and grabbing his coat off the hook on the wall. Leo came up to him and opened the door, holding it open so Sangwon could exit before him before he closed it behind the both of them with a soft click. Leo's hand quickly found Sangwon's, lacing their fingers together as they walked down the hall of the building, heading towards the exit.

It was beautiful, the snow falling around them, the soft glow of the Christmas lights in the park, the coffee that warmed Sangwon's cold body. Everything felt surreal, it was nostalgic in it's own special way, and Sangwon was so happy to be spending the moment with Leo. They made their way to their usual spot, a small bench tucked underneath the big willow tree beside the river. Leo dusted the snow off of the bench with his sleeve, drying it off enough for the two of them to sit down on it without getting themselves wet. Leo sat first, Sangwon following and tucking himself close to his side, Leo's arm quickly wrapping around his shoulders and pulling him even closer with a smile.

"It's beautiful, hyung." Sangwon spoke softly, looking around the empty park. It was like it was their own little world right now, just the two of them and the sounds of the night; the faint sounds of cars heading home far in the distance, the river flowing in front of them and the coffee truck worker closing up for the night. Sangwon sipped on his drink, the warmth spreading throughout his body as he hummed against the cup, Leo grabbed the cup out of his hands and took his own sip—a nod of approval following when he enjoyed the taste of it.

They stayed like that for a while, sitting in silence, enjoying each other's company in the late hours of the night. The snow fell lightly against them, speckles of white sprinkled across Sangwon's blonde hair, Leo's dark clothes dotted with the white snow, contrasting against the colour awkwardly. Sangwon finished off his drink, placing the empty cup down on the floor beside them before he cuddled in closer to Leo's side, his head resting lightly against his shoulder as he closed his eyes. He wasn't tired, he was just enjoying the moment.

Leo shook him a little after twenty minutes, Sangwon had actually fallen asleep briefly. "Hey, sleepyhead. It's getting colder. We should head home soon.." Leo's hand came up to play with his hair, brushing softly against his scalp. Sangwon stirred, giving a small nod in his sleepy state, a soft smile tugging at his lips.

"Hyung.." Sangwon sat up properly, his voice soft and still filled with sleep, "Can we build a snowman before we go?" He looked at Leo with his big eyes, making the other boy melt at the sight.

"Of course, love." Leo stood up, moving out from under the willow tree and over closer to the river where the snow had built up significantly on the grass. Sangwon trudged over and immediately dropped to his knees near Leo, quickly gathering snow to begin forming the base of the snowman. It hadn't snowed enough yet for them to make anything huge, but a small one would suffice—it would at least be cute. Sangwon laughed as Leo stood there, completely unsure of what to do as he knelt down beside Sangwon and started to help shovel snow into the ball he was creating.

"Have you seriously never built a snowman before?" Sangwon cocked his head as he looked up at Leo who was busy focusing on the task at hand. Leo shook his head lightly, flushing a little pink in embarrassment. He had been in Korea for a while now and he'd never had the chance to build one, he usually stayed home when it snowed and his friends weren't the type of people to want to do something so.. childish? Leo didn't tell this to Sangwon, it didn't seem childish when he was doing it, instead it was something adorable and Leo was falling even more in love over such a simple activity.

The snowman was a little lopsided, thanks to Leo's lack of 'snowman building skills'. Sangwon thought it was cute though. He had found a few broken branches and stuck them into the side of it, and tugged a few hairs of grass out from beneath the snow—sticking it meticulously against its face to create a smile. Leo fetched three very small rocks to stick on it for the eyes and nose. It was far from perfect but it was something they had created together. Leo slipped his phone out of his pocket, he wrapped his arm around Sangwon's shoulder and pulled him close as he angled his phone up to get the snowman in the background of the photo. He snapped a few too many pictures, as Sangwon posed for the camera, doing five hundred different poses a second—Leo knew half of the pictures would probably be blurry from movement but he didn't care.

Leo tucked his phone away back into his pocket, turning towards Sangwon who was now crouched over absentmindedly drawing shapes into the snow with his finger. Leo slid his arms under his armpits and hoisted him back up to his feet, a small startled sound escaping from Sangwon's mouth before he giggled at the sudden movement. They stood facing each other, Leo's hands came down to take Sangwon's in his own, softly holding his fingers.

"Sangwon-ah.."

"Mmm?" Sangwon hummed, looking up at Leo with his beautiful eyes, making the other melt under his gaze.

"You know, we've been spending time together nonstop for the past 2 months, and you know how much I love you?"

"Yeah..?"

"I want to make it official. Sangwon, I want you to be my boyfriend." Leo blurted the words out quicker than he was expecting to, his cheeks warming up at his confession. He knew Sangwon felt the same way, but he still found himself a little nervous actually admitting his love to the other boy. Sangwon stood still, his breath catching as he stared at Leo for what felt like an eternity, making Leo's gaze falter—his stomach dropping at the possibility of Sangwon saying no.

"Oh my god. Yes yes yes yes!!" Sangwon screamed, jumping up and throwing his arms around Leo, catching him off guard. Sangwon wrapped his legs around Leo's torso, causing him to almost lose his balance as he came to wrap his arms around Sangwon, steadying him against his chest. They laughed together, Leo planting a thousand kisses onto the top of Sangwon's head from where he hung from him.

"I love you, baby. I want to spend the rest of my life with you." Leo spoke softly as he placed Sangwon back down on the floor, his feet crunching into the snow beneath him. Sangwon didn't say anything, he just leant upwards and planted his lips against Leo's, a soft and sweet kiss to commemorate making their relationship official—finally.
