Summary
The 1960 baseball season is unraveling Wilhelm Larsson’s life. He can’t hit, his new teammates hate him, he’s homesick, and he’s living out of a suitcase. When the team forces him into a season-long interview stunt with a snobby reporter, he has no choice but to agree.
Simon Eriksson is not a sports reporter. He’s a grieving arts writer barely holding on, hiding behind his routine and a too-empty apartment, mourning a partner he was never able to be public about. The last thing he needs is to spend a season writing about New York’s obnoxious new shortstop in a stunt to get the struggling newspaper more readers.
Drawn together, they recognize something achingly familiar in each other’s collapse. But Simon has promised himself he will never be someone’s secret again, and Wilhelm cannot afford to be out in the career he’s in. In the end, they’ll have to decide whether love is worth the risk of losing everything.
