The acres of land owned by the Addams family were bliss for the young werewolf they had taken in. Enid laid out on the ground feeling the blades of grass digging into her skin. She stared up at the waning moon with a profound sadness. The moon becoming less visible left Enid with a deep feeling of loss. Its gentle glow brought great comfort that she attributed to her being a werewolf. When it waned she was less focused, more likely to lash out, and lethargic. Her eyes traced the outline of the remaining glow on the celestial body.
Beside her she heard footsteps. When her eyes flicked upwards she saw it was Fester. He sat beside her and looked up at the moon. He let out a soft sigh and turned to the teen beside him.
“I always miss her when she goes away.” He mused.
“Who?” Enid looked up at him and tilted her head.
“The moon.” Fester said, his voice somewhat wistful. “What are you doing out here? Is Wednesday okay?”
“Yeah, she’s fine. I just,” Enid paused, “I guess I miss the moon too.”
She huffed softly and looked up at the moon. A primal part of her wanted to let out a defeated howl. Her wolf grew restless and her mood grew more somber. She tried to extend her claws but couldn’t as her supernatural power waxed and waned with the moon. Memories of being a fully formed wolf under a new moon flooded her mind. She missed her massive body and sharp claws. The raw muscle she had coated in a thick fur and impressive teeth made her feel powerful. Now she was just a below average height teenage girl who had no more supernatural ability than a normie.
“She’ll come back,” Faster said with a small smile.
“What?” Enid questioned, unsure of where his random statement was going.
“She always comes back to me.” He said with full adoration in his voice.
“To you?” She sounded skeptical.
“Of course. We’re in love.” He said as if it were obvious.
“You and… the moon?” If Enid was skeptical before she was in utter disbelief after that assertion.
“I guess it’s more one sided.” He admitted with a slight abashedness.
“How are you in love with,” Enid paused, “her?”
“You’ve seen how beautiful she is, how strong her pull is.” Fester smiled.
“I guess,” Enid still felt unsure but it wasn’t entirely out of the question for a member of Fester’s eccentric family.
“Good, if you were in love with her too I’d have to be jealous.” Fester joked, causing Enid to laugh softly.
Enid shifted as the blades of grass dug into her skin. The ground wasn’t the most comfortable in human form but she had a hard time adjusting to being inside after being in the woods for months. After being shifted for so long her wolf began to make decisions instead of her human mind. To the beast being indoors was near torture. She was rarely alone as someone, usually Wednesday, always accompanied her. With the Addamses she felt that she fully belonged and was cared for. Back with her family no one would have stayed with her outside in the middle of the night but Fester did.
“Thank you,” Enid mumbled as she looked towards him.
“For what, kiddo?” He asked not fully knowing her experience.
“Staying out here,” She said quietly, not wanting to sound as pathetic as she felt.
Fester pulled her into a hug knowing she preferred physical contact as comfort but didn’t get it often. She leaned into him and sighed softly. He ran a hand through her hair, which had grown significantly since she had gotten lost. He saw her in the same way he saw his niece and nephew and treated her all the same. He joked with her, taught her how to build explosives, and comforted her just as he had with Wednesday and Pugsley.
“You should get to bed, Wednesday would hate to wake up alone.” He said and he combed his fingers through her hair.
She nodded against his chest and mumbled a soft ‘mhm’ while beginning to fall asleep. Fester laughed to himself and picked up the wolf. She was lighter than he expected as she hadn’t been eating much when she was lost. He carried her up to Wednesday’s room and knocked on the door. A few seconds passed before the door opened. Wednesday’s dark eyes were bleary as she looked up at her uncle with her girlfriend in his arms. Suddenly she looked worried and her eyes focused immediately.
“Is she okay?” Wednesday asked nervously.
“Yes, just tired.” He assured his niece and set Enid down in bed.
“Thank you, Uncle.” Wednesday spoke as Enid curled up in her sheets and chuffed much like a wolf would.
Fester placed a hand on her shoulder for a moment before closing the bedroom door and smiling. He knew that Enid was good for Wednesday despite her affinity for color and avoidance of gore and guts. More than anything he was happy to have something in common with the teen that he cared for, both of them found solace in the rock that orbited the planet and he was gladdened that he was something else that brought the young lycanthrope comfort.
