The voices usually come at night, when he leaves the torch outside his tent to die down with the strong wind that has Trench besieged.
‘Stop looking’
The tone is commanding and strong, almost like a distorted version of Clancy’s voice. The order of what’s said is also usually the same on repeat like a broken record. He doesn’t want to accept defeat, he has never done it in the past. There have been so many cycles since he left Dema, so many relapses in the past 15 years with this last Clancy… They got so fucking close, for god’s sake.
‘Stop looking’
And the voice keeps erosioning his resolve, the strength to keep his value and duty alive like the fire on his torch.
‘You won’t find me again’
And then silence.
