Pomni is desperate to leave the circus. Jax is terrified of what might happen if he ever does.
Something deeper may be wrong with the circus itself. As its inhabitants are pushed ever closer to the edge of abstraction, old scars begin to resurface—especially the ones Jax refuses to talk about, and the ones Pomni insists she doesn’t have. Sometimes it almost feels like the circus wants them to break.
Thrown together in Caine’s increasingly dangerous adventures, Pomni and Jax form an uneasy bond built on terrible coping mechanisms, mutual frustration, and a connection neither of them quite understands. If the system running the circus truly thrives on their misery, learning to rely on each other might be the only way either of them can escape.
