Work Text:

How could he be so beautiful?

A thought that went through Leorio’s head more than once during the last couple of hours.

He always thought that every time his eyes met Kurapika. His slim figure, his dignified yet enchanting look on his face, his shiny hair that looked perfect despite him not caring for it much. Everything in him, working in harmony to bewitch Leorio in body and soul.

But right there, when the sunlight hit him, the vision was absolutely breathtaking.

Maybe it was the song playing in his headphones; Cherry by Spitz was a catchy classic he just adored and furnished his helpless romantic and yearning vibes. Or the scenery that surrounded them: a bright and cheerful park, wide and green, filled with colorful flowers and comfortable weather. Most likely it was the fact that Kurapika was lying on his lap, so concentrated in his book, Doctor Zhivago—as tragic as him. His blond hair went down the sides of his face, leaving his forehead slightly uncovered; he bit his lips every now and then whenever the story managed to captivate him a little too much.

The sunlight hit Kurapika almost wholly. Not in a burning manner, but rather warm, making his luminous presence even brighter. His golden locks shone more than usual, trying to emulate the sun that brightened them. His lips were accentuated too, a little red, by the constant biting and the few strawberries he had eaten—Leorio’s own luncheon for that lazy and sunny spring day—making the contrast more evident and exquisite.

Perhaps just the fact of having him so close was enough to enhance his already natural beauty. Doing absolutely nothing but keeping each other company, observing him resting so calmly and carefree—that was a vision of Kurapika that wasn’t seen frequently. A feature reserved just for the ones he held dearest, and a particular relaxed semblance that was just for Leorio’s eyes. If only he could see Kurapika like that more often, without anything on his mind but the plot of his book, without any target to hunt for or a deadly enemy to fight with. But maybe part of the beauty in that peaceful state of his was precisely that it was rare.

Just when it couldn’t get any better, a kind breeze of fresh air hit them both, making the corner of the pages of Doctor Zhivago quiver rapidly as the golden hair strands danced like petals in the wind. Kurapika’s natural fragrance, mixed with his standard perfume, flowed around them, filling their surroundings with that sweet and unique scent Leorio could never get enough of.

He smiled slightly. The world could end right there at that very moment. He didn’t need or want anything else but to remain like that forever. He concentrated on trying to capture all the sensations and scenery that he was witnessing in his mind and heart to remember them later when he felt down or romantic, or both. To reminisce that if he had ever been happy, it had been there, on a random spring day with Kurapika.

“Leorio…”

The low whisper brought him suddenly back to reality, making him lose the notion of time for half a second.

Leorio mumbled distractedly, provoking a soft giggle in his boyfriend.

“You’ve been staring for the last twenty minutes…”

His eyes widened as his cheeks began to burn. Wasn’t Kurapika reading or something?! Once again, he tried to say a word, but his tongue could only produce unintelligent sounds.

Kurapika laughed again, putting his book down.

“Kiss me.” He demanded quietly, with a dreamy smile. If his boyfriend was so entertained by him, then he might as well do something productive.

Leorio’s gaze widened even more, and then he blinked twice.

He bent down to reach Kurapika’s lips in a delicate touch; they met at a slow pace that harmonized with the peacefulness of the park, as warm as the sunshine that fondled their bodies and as exquisite as the breeze that whispered in their ears. Strawberry lips that sent a shiver down his spine, making his chest explode of ecstasy despite the tender contact.

They admired each other during the seconds that followed their exchange of affection. Kurapika subtly traced Leorio’s lips and chin with his fingers, possibly wondering what he had done to deserve such a man and when exactly they had ended up together. His smile widened, letting out a cheerful chuckle.

“Go on, then,” Kurapika said, opening his book on the marked page to continue reading.

Leorio giggled, placing another kiss on Kurapika’s temple.

Indeed, Kurapika was lovely in every possible way, and his attributes were only accentuated to the level of the gods with the idyllic surroundings.

How could he be so beautiful?

Who cared!

He was, and most importantly, he was all his.
