Chapter 1: Ian (Hurt Fic)

Chapter Text

While it had initially been Ian’s Idea to bring back Squad Vlogs, he was not the one who had decided that the first one would involve them all going ice skating with go-pros strapped to their chests. That idea had come from none other than Mr. Chanse “I think I could jump over a moving car” McCrary and Ian silently hated him for that, but not really. He just wasn’t particularly looking forward to it as he had not gone ice skating in a few years now and he was already pretty clumsy by nature, so he just had a slightly bad feeling about all of this.

He had to be real, he was the most worried about making a fool of himself, not even in front of the camera, but in front of his friends. But he braved the storm of fears in his head and laced up his skates and put on the go-pro vest before waddling his way over to the rink. He gripped onto the wall for dear life as he stepped onto the ice, refusing to let go of it as he tried to skate forward. At least until someone skated up behind and called out to him.

“Are you really gonna hold onto the wall the entire time, scaredy cat?” Amanda jokingly remarked as she skated up next to him and placed a hand on his shoulder. Ian looked up at her bright smile and long dark hair pulled up into a tight ponytail. He quickly looked down and away, trying to hide the obvious blush forming on his cheeks. As much as he tried to hide it, no one could deny that she was almost exactly his type and whenever she teased him like this, it only made it harder to ignore. But before he could get too caught up in those thoughts, someone else skated up next to Amanda and joined the conversation.

“C’mon, leave the poor guy alone Amanda. Besides, his back probably hurts from carrying the whole company on it for years! We don’t want him sustaining any more injuries.” Damien interjected, playfully nudging Amanda. It really didn’t matter what Damien said to defend him, despite his fears, Ian decided that he was going to try to impress Amanda.

“N-no, it’s all good, I was just about to let go anyway.” Ian said, quickly letting go of the wall and pushing off, hoping to God that any of his previous experience from years ago would kick in and that he’d look cool as hell in front of Amanda and Damien. That did not happen though, as the speed and force he launched himself at was just too much for the inexperienced skater. In a matter of seconds, he went from standing on two feet to landing face first on the cold and harsh ice, his left arm twisting under the rest of his body as he fell.

“IAN!!!” Amanda screamed, skating towards the injured man as quickly as she could with Damien following close behind her. Once she reached him, she carefully placed a hand on his back. “Ian, can you hear us?”

“Yeah.” Ian muttered painfully. He was glad he was laying face first on the ice, so that he didn’t have to face Amanda after the absolute wipeout he just did. To him, that would hurt worse than any injury he might’ve sustained from the fall.

“Where does it hurt, buddy?” Damien asked. “So we know what areas to be careful of when we get you up.”

“Face.” Ian started listing out. Amanda and Damien shared a look that said ‘Duh!’ “Left arm, head kinda.”

“Okay, that’s good to know. I’ll slowly start getting you up on the left side, Amanda will you-“ Before Damien even finished that statement, Amanda made her way over to his right side and was carefully slipping her arm under Ian’s right arm, pulling him up and off of the ice slightly so that he was in a half seated position, still leaning on his injured arm.

“Jesus Christ!” Amanda exclaimed immediately after seeing his face.

“What?” Ian asked, quickly concerned based on the look on her face.

“The left side of your face is covered in blood!” Amanda replied, reaching out and wiping a bit of the blood away, only to find that it continued gushing again once her hand moved away. What she thought was just a few cuts, turned out to be multiple large gashes in his face. “Damn, it’s worse than I thought.”

She let go of him for a second and quickly took off her cardigan, as Damien eventually slid his arm under Ian’s injured and finished pulling him up to a seated position. Amanda wadded up her cardigan and pressed it against the left side of his face, applying pressure with the hope of keeping the wounds from gushing all over him.

“We gotta get you to a hospital man.” Damien stated as they started skating slowly towards the exit while supporting him. “Amanda’s right, those gashes in your face are bad, almost definitely stitches worthy.”

“Shit.” Ian swore under his breath. He couldn’t believe that he started off trying to impress a woman he liked and now he was going to the hospital to get stitches. What a day!

They got him off the ice and sat him on a bench as Damien quickly undid both his and Ian’s skates and as Amanda finished undoing hers, she returned to wiping the blood off of his face and putting pressure on it. Then the three of them made their way out to Damien’s car, loading him into the back, with Amanda beside him as Damien got in the driver's seat and started towards the hospital.

Amanda kept the cardigan pressed to his face, and he couldn’t tell if it was her touching him and the close proximity or the fact that the sweater smelled just like her pretty floral perfume, he felt the blush creep back to his cheeks. He hoped that she didn’t notice but considering how much attention she was paying to his face at the moment, he knew that probably wasn’t likely.

Once they had made it to the hospital, Damien parked before getting out and helping Amanda get Ian out of the car and into the ER waiting room. The charge nurse took one look at Ian, the two people supporting his body weight and the copious amounts of blood covering his face and Amanda’s cardigan and immediately gestured for the nurses to take him back to a room. Once they got in there, the doctors started cleaning the facial wounds and taping large amounts of gauze to his face to try to stop the bleeding as they got everything set up for stitches.

One of the other doctors was asking about his arm pain and examining it, before determining that it was probably strained and getting him set up with a sling for his left arm. As the doctors set the needles and thread on a tray next to his bed, Ian looked over at Amanda who was already holding her hand out towards him. He knew that he had to have his eyes closed the whole time, especially once they’d numbed up his face, so he felt like he would be less embarrassed to be holding her hand because he couldn’t see her. So, he took it, trying not to appear too eager as he did so.

Then they started the process, stitching up the gashes on the left side of his face as Ian tried not to wince. It was hard to do, despite the numbing of his face, but instead he chose to focus on the feeling of holding and squeezing Amanda’s hand. And before he knew it, the process was done and the doctors were giving him all the info on taking care of the stitches and when to get them removed.

As all the doctors and nurses cleared out of the room, Ian’s eyes landed on Amanda first, who looked at him sympathetically.

“Awww, your poor little face!” She cooed as she placed her hand on his other cheek. Ian couldn’t help but blush again.

“And to think, I was skating like that and acting like an idiot just to impress you!” Ian quipped before realizing what he had just admitted to. Now it was Amanda’s turn to blush.

“Aww, Ian, you didn’t have to do all that!” Amanda said sweetly. “You already impress me all the time!” Ian hid his face from her with how red he turned and Amanda giggled at him.

“Besides man, what you should really be focusing on is that your left arm is a sling, so that might make certain personal activities a little difficult.” Damien jabbed from across the room, reminding the other two that he was still there. Ian instinctively looked over at Amanda with a sinister smirk, and she just laughed and smacked his shoulder.

“C’mon Ian,” Amanda started, placing a sweet little kiss on his cheek and helping him to his feet. “Let’s take you home!”
