Blizzards and Bad Decisions

Summary:

Kevin and Ray love Jake, but sometimes Jake has bad ideas. Like ignoring them and trying to drive out in a blizzard to pick up a pizza only to end up crashing into a pole shortly afterwards, for example.

or

Jake doesn’t listen and gets into a lot of trouble, so Kevin deals with his disobedient son.

Notes:

Hello there!!❤️❤️❤️❤️I love Brooklyn 99, and I love the dynamic of Kevin and Ray basically adopting Jake as their eccentric and loud son. So, I decided to write this story! I really hope you enjoy!❤️❤️❤️❤️

Warning: This story contains non-sexual disciplinary spanking by a parental figure. Don't like? Don't read.

Work Text:

“I just don’t see why you guys are just so…well, y’know?” Jake said, hands confidently on his hips. Kevin and Raymond gave him an inquiring look as they stood in their lovely neat living room.

“No, I do not.” Kevin said. “Care to elaborate?” Ray asked. Jake scoffed. “Oh, don’t make me say it! You know you two are all prim and proper and…boring.” He said. Kevin and Raymond shared a puzzled look.

“I cannot say that I understand where this hypothesis has come from.” Kevin responded.

“I agree; we are tons upon tons of fun. In fact, if we were any more fun, they’d have to name an art gallery after us.” Ray said, wrapping an arm around Kevin’s waist in a rare show of physical affection.

Kevin and Raymond were very happy with their relationship, with neither of them being particularly touchy-feely when it came to affection. They felt that they didn’t need to be so hands on with their romantic gestures all the time, subsequently making the moments they did share that much more impactful and special.

Jake had been living with his ‘adoptive parents’ ever since he moved out of his old shitty apartment. He had at first declined Holt’s offer, but little did he know that Kevin was actually the one who came up with the idea and wouldn’t be taking no for an answer.

Jake eventually found himself feeling very at home as he accepted his place in their found family dynamic as the son with two classy, boujee dads. It was everything he ever wanted!

He’d be lying if he said he didn’t know just how hands on they’d be when it came to taking care of himself, though.

Kevin and Raymond were very big on looking presentable and clean, something Jake wasn’t necessarily the most concerned with.

I mean, after all, he was a naturally handsome fella! Well, at least that’s what his mom had said. He was pretty sure he saw Amy checking him out the other day, though he couldn’t prove it just yet…

Anyways, they took their roles as Jake’s parents seriously, regardless of the fact that Jake was an adult.

Jake wasn’t like most adults, to be fair. He definitely could use the extra guidance and help.

“Right, because of course that would be your first pick for a fun time.” Jake said with a smile and a dry nod.

“Well, I’m gonna go pick up a pizza.” He said, walking over and grabbing his car keys that were neatly hanging up on a hook near the front door.

Ray and Kevin lifted an eyebrow. “Excuse me?” Ray asked. Jake paused, knowing that dangerous tone.

“…Ohhh, you’re right. I should add breadsticks, too! They taste so good with warm marinara!” Jake exclaimed with a carefree grin, placing his hand on the doorknob and opening the door…only to find that they were in the middle of an extremely heavy snow storm.

Jake’s eyes widened. “Woah! Okay, I did not see that coming!” He exclaimed.

In hindsight, Jake had, in fact, seen multiple news reports warning about this very weather throughout the week, but he just figured that the weather man was just being a bit dramatic.

“I guess he was right, after all.” Jake said to himself.

“Jacob, close the door. It is freezing outside, and you are not driving in that blizzard.” Kevin said, walking over to close the door, only for Jake to give him an exasperated look.

“Oh, come on! I’ve been craving pizza all day! I should be rewarded for restraining myself from going to buy it sooner, honestly! Or, I should slap myself in the face for not getting it sooner given what’s happening now.” Jake said with a sheepish chuckle.

Kevin and Ray shared an unamused look, before focusing their attention back to Jake.

“Peralta, this isn’t up for debate. Those roads are dangerous and icy, it’s not worth the risk. You won’t even be able to see in that weather, let alone drive safely in it.” Raymond said.

Jake kept his handle on the doorknob, much to his father’s irritation. “But-But…I’m hungry!” He groaned, tilting his head back pitifully.

“I have a broccoli and cheese casserole in the oven.” Kevin reminded him. Jake frowned. “But it’s not the same-“

“-Jacob Peralta. Door, closed. Now.” Kevin said firmly, his patience wearing thin.

Jacob let out a frustrated huff, borderline slamming the door out of disappointment, earning a sharp look from both of the other two men.

“I believe you could use some time alone in your room for a while until dinner is ready.” Kevin said.

Jake gave him a glare. “Ohh, this is such bulls-“ He was cut off by a stern glare.

“Finish that sentence, and this conversation is taking a different turn, young man.” Kevin warned.

Jake wisely refrained from responding with a smartass answer, despite really, really wanting to. He knew better than to push further than Kevin was willing to go in terms of putting up with Jake’s sass.

Kevin and Raymond both had a way of keeping their son in line that proved effective, albeit painful.

The first time Jake received corporal punishment by Raymond, it left him squirming in his chair at work for days.

Jake loathed the feeling of being taken over his captain dad’s knee, but he’d be lying if he said he didn’t hate it even more when it was Kevin doing it.

Kevin had a way of truly making someone feel small during a punishment.

He also had an unrealistically hard palm for a man who liked vanilla scented candles. He nodded, pleased with Jake’s ability to keep quiet for once.

“Now then, as I was saying; you go to your room and think about what we’ve spoken of.” Kevin said, voice calm but threatening. “We will inform you when dinner is ready.” He finished.

Jake glared down at the floor, practically stomping past the two men towards the stairs.

“This is ridiculous. I am a grown man! I shouldn’t have to be sent to my room for anything!” Jake exclaimed, obediently (albeit angrily) making his way to his room nonetheless.

Kevin let out a sigh after he heard Jake’s door close.

Jake didn’t slam it like he wanted to, knowing better than to test their patience. Raymond nor Kevin would hesitate to go up there and swat some sense into him.

So, there Jake laid upon his bed, gazing up at the ceiling sulkily. His stomach grumbled, craving that delicious extra large pizza and breadsticks that were on his mind. “This is such bullshit.” Jake huffed.

He sat up, rummaging through his bedside drawer for his old gameboy so he could take his frustrations out on whatever antagonist that awaited him. As he looked, something else caught his eye…

…It was the spare key to his car. He grabbed the key, an idea forming in his mind.

With a smirk, he grabbed his jacket and zipped it up before opening his bedroom window.

Okay, so it wasn’t a good idea, but it was still an idea!

Much to his dismay, Kevin began to feel bad about being so stern with Jake.

He knew the younger man didn’t mean any harm, but Kevin was trying to save him from harm.

“Perhaps I was a bit too harsh.” Kevin said, looking at the staircase that he had sent Jake up a mere ten minutes ago.

Ray placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. “You were much more patient than I would have been.” He told him.

This was true; Jake had seen the best and the worst of his boss, and he knew exactly how far he could push Holt. Kevin, on the other hand, was a different story.

Jake loved Kevin, but he didn’t spend as much time with him before moving in with him as he did with Raymond, who he worked with every day.

So, I guess you could say he was still ‘testing the boundaries’ a bit with Kevin.

“I believe I should go check on him. Perhaps he’d like a cup of tea…” Kevin said. Raymond and Kevin shared an amused look before they both laughed.

“Oh, I crack myself up sometimes.” Kevin said before going into the kitchen and grabbing a cold can of orange soda for their adult kid.

Then, he walked upstairs with the peace offering. He politely knocked on Jake’s door.

“Jacob, it is Kevin. Open the door, please.” He said. There was no response.

“I just want to speak to you, Jacob. You are not in trouble.” Kevin said.

Once again, there was no reply. Kevin sighed, opening the door.

“Jacob, I understand that you are ups-“ Kevin froze mid sentence, eyes widening as he looked around the room.

It was empty, and the window was open, blowing a cold winter breeze inside. Kevin could have sworn he had felt his heart stop at that very moment.

All he could think about was the dangerous conditions outside, and his son who was terrible at driving in any kind of precipitation whatsoever. That was enough for Kevin to quickly run to the door.

“He’s gone, Raymond!” He exclaimed at the top of the stairs. Ray facepalmed.

“No, no no…” He groaned, massaging his temples. “We need to do something! He’s going to get himself killed!” Kevin exclaimed.

Raymond went to the closet and grabbed his coat. “You stay here, I will go find him and bring him back.” He said.

Raymond noticed the concerned and worried look on his husband’s face, and it tugged on his heartstrings.

“He is alright, Kevin. Don’t worry. Just focus on the casserole in the oven, and make sure you have a plan for what you are going to do when he is safe and sound back here.” Ray said, grabbing his keys and leaving the house.

Kevin was certainly thinking of quite a few things he needed to make very clear to their son when he was dragged back home. Unfortunately, things were not going very well for said son…

Jake felt pretty awkward as he stood next to the car he had just crashed into a pole. The worst part was that it was only a mere 5 minutes away from where he lived.

“Damn, the road was really icy today.” He said, looking at the damage.

“Jacob Peralta!” A familiar voice was heard. Jake grimaced.

“That’s not a good sign…” He sighed to himself. He then turned and gave Raymond a smile.

“Heyyy, Cap! How have you been? You look great!” Jake exclaimed with an innocent smile.

Raymond narrowed his eyes at Jake, taking in the sight and crossing his arms over his chest. “We have a lot to discuss, young man.” Holt said sternly.

“…not about the toppings I was going to get, I assume?” Jake tried to lighten the mood with one of his jokes. It didn’t work, however.

Kevin sighed in relief as he watched the two men walk through the front door.

“Are you alright, Jacob?” He asked, wrapping his arms around Jake and immediately checking him over.

Jake frowned. “I’m okay, for now anyway…” He said. Kevin suddenly glared down at him, crossing his arms over his chest.

“You have a lot to explain, child. What on Earth were you thinking? Sneaking out through the window and driving off in those dangerous road conditions?” He lectured.

Jake had the decency to look ashamed, looking down at his feet. “Look, I’m sorry. I just wanted my pizza and breadsticks, and you guys weren’t listening to me!” He exclaimed.

Ray scoffed. “God forbid we try to keep you safe, and look at what ended up happening because of your little escapade.” Ray said.

Kevin lifted an eyebrow. “What happened?” He asked. Raymond gave Jake a pointed look.

“Why don’t I have our flight risk son tell you.” He said. All eyes were on him, making Jake wince. “Jacob…” Kevin gave him a warning look.

“Okay, I may have accidentally crashed my car into a pole.” Jake said sheepishly.

Kevin gasped. “Jacob Peralta!” He exclaimed.

Jake held his hands up in mock surrender. “Okay, in my defense, it was really icy out there.” He said.

Kevin and Raymond shared an incredulous look.

“Wow, it’s almost as if someone should have told you that. Oh, wait…WE DID!” Raymond exclaimed, his patience completely worn thin now.

“…okay, you did. I’m sorry, I just…I didn’t think it-“ He was cut off.

“Yes, we know you didn’t think. At all.” Kevin finished. He didn’t want to hear anymore of Jake’s excuses.

“Go upstairs, we are going to be having a different conversation now.” Kevin demanded.

Jake’s eyes widened, looking at Holt for support. Ray just shook his head.

“You have had this coming for quite some time, son. I’m sorry, it’s time for you to face the consequences of your own actions. Go on.” Raymond nodded towards the stairs.

Jake groaned, turning and running upstairs as if he were an angsty teen that had just been told no to going to a concert on a school night. This time, he did slam the door, and he wasn’t sorry about it either!

Kevin and Holt shared yet another stressed sigh. “I am going to take care of this one.” Kevin said.

Jake needed to be reminded of one thing; he needed to listen to his parents because they had his best interest at heart.

“Are you sure?” Raymond asked. He knew that disciplining Jake wasn’t for the weak of heart.

Despite his mischievous nature, Jacob Peralta was a good boy at heart. He was sweet and kind, albeit unorthodox and messy.

It pained them whenever they had to punish him, his big brown wet eyes always broke their hearts.

Kevin nodded. “Indeed. I will be alright, but can you please keep an eye on the casserole?” He asked. Raymond nodded. “It would be my pleasure.” He said.

Meanwhile upstairs, Jake was sulking as he looked up at the ceiling. He was laying on his back on his bed, pissed at the world and pissed at himself for getting caught.

“That pizza would have really hit the spot, damn it.” Jake sighed.

Soon, his sulking came to an end as one of his fathers walked in. This time, as he had expected, it was Kevin. Jake mentally noted that this was going to be very unpleasant.

Kevin closed the door behind him, taking a seat next to Jake on the bed.

“Jacob, what you did today was very unsafe, very irresponsible, and quite frankly, very thoughtless.” Kevin scolded.

Jake sat up, looking away. “I just wanted my pizza…” He complained. “It’s like you guys think I’m some little kid who can’t take care of himself!” He exclaimed.

Kevin gently held Jake’s chin, turning it to look him in the eye.

“Jacob, my dear, you got in a car accident moments after you snuck out. There was a very good reason for us telling you to stay put.” He said. Jake couldn’t refute his point, as Kevin was right.

“Well, yeah, but I mean…it’s just the principle! I should be allowed to do whatever I want, I’m a grown man who can make my own decisions!” Jake exclaimed.

Kevin lifted an eyebrow. “Is that why you spent years sleeping on that terrible mattress?” He asked.

“Well, I mean-“

“-and why you rarely did laundry before you moved in with us?”

“I just-“

“-and why you’ve been feeling a lot better after eating primarily healthy meals since you’ve been here?”

“But-“

“-and why you said you haven’t felt this cared for and loved in a long time?” Kevin asked.

“…okay, fine. Point Kevin.” Jake scoffed.

Kevin gently took Jake’s hand. “Jacob, I love you. Raymond does as well, and I know you feel the same way about us. We just want what is best for you, it’s not about making you feel incapable or ruining your self esteem. It’s the opposite; we want you to feel safe and comforted while you live with us. If that means we have to set some ground rules and boundaries for you, then so be it.” He said.

Jake felt a little guilty after hearing all of that, now. They really did love him and wanted what was best for him.

“I’m sorry I snuck out and drove on those icy roads.” He apologized. Kevin gave him a soft smile. “I know you are.” He said.

Suddenly, Jake was standing in between Kevin’s knees. Kevin carefully undid Jake’s jeans, unzipping them and tugging them, along with his smiley face boxers, down to his knees.

“Wha-hey! We don’t have to do this! I-I learned my lesson! It-AH!” Jake yelped as he was swiftly turned over Kevin’s knee.

Kevin gently rested his hand on Jake’s back, keeping him in place. “I need to make sure that this doesn’t happen again so you take it seriously.” He said.

Kevin lifted his palm and landed it with a loud smack across Jake’s backside.

Jake let out a yelp, holding onto the pillow on his bed for support. Kevin’s palm began raining down all across Jake’s exposed skin in a pattern.

Kevin didn’t look like it, but he could deliver a truly hellish spanking. Jake knew that all too well, and this was further proving it. “OWW! Kevin! I’m sorry! OUCH, OWW! AH!” Jake cried out.

“I’ll believe it when I see it. Actions speak louder than words, after all.” He said. The swats were crisp and painful, exactly how Kevin intended them to be.

Jake was never one to try and hold in his cries during a spanking. He didn’t try to act like it didn’t hurt when it really did, knowing his dads wouldn't judge him for it.

Spankings were a way for him to be vulnerable while also still being held accountable.

As the spanking continued, Jake’s bottom had begun to turn pink. ‘Good, we are making progress.’ Kevin thought.

“Just so we are clear, your keys are mine until I feel you are ready to drive again.” He said. “And until your car damage is fixed.” Kevin added.

His palm never ceased, earning a loud wail from Jake. “AH! What?! That’s not fair! I-OUCH! OWWW! OKAY! YES, I GOT IT!” Jake’s tune changed very quickly as Kevin lifted his knee and landed sharp smacks to his sensitive undercurve.

Kevin nodded, lowering his knee. “I knew you’d come around.” He said, proceeding to turn Jake’s behind a bright shade of red. As the spanking continued, Jake’s struggling picked up.

“OUCH! OWW! OWWWW!” Jake hollered, throwing a hand back to give his sore bottom a rub.

Kevin narrowed his eyes, immediately catching his hand and pinning it to the small of his back.

“No, that is not how this works. You know better, young man.” Kevin lectured sternly.

Jake let out a soft sob, going limp over his father’s knee. All of the stubbornness he had was now gone; nowhere to be seen. Kevin noted this, knowing that it was time to wrap this up.

He proceeded to heat up Jake’s bum, making sure he’d be squirming in his seat at work and sleeping on his stomach. If that was what it took to get through to him, then so be it.

Kevin lifted an eyebrow. “Will this happen again, son?” He asked for confirmation.

Jake tearfully shook his head through his sobs. “N-No, sir! I s-swear! I’ll hiccup n-never do it again!” Jake sobbed loudly.

Landing the last few swats to his sit spots, Kevin finished up the spanking.

Then, it was all over. Kevin gently rubbed Jake’s back before fixing his pants and sitting him up on his lap.

Jake immediately threw his arms around him, bawling into his shoulder helplessly. “M’sorry!” He cried.

Kevin gently rubbed his back, stroking his hair and showering Jake with the comfort he had earned.

“Shhh, it’s alright. All is forgiven, son. It’s okay. You took that very well.” Kevin cooed.

Jake soaked up all of Kevin’s gentleness. He felt safe in Kevin’s arms, as if nobody could ever hurt him. Not even the most dangerous, pizza stealing criminal.

Eventually, Jake’s sobs had died down to sniffles and the occasional hiccup.

Reaching over to his bed-stand, Kevin grabbed a clean tissue and gently wiped Jake’s face.

“Honey, I love you. So does your father.” He said in a soft tone.

“We need you to listen to us from now on, okay? Especially when it comes to your safety, we will never put up with disobedience in regards to that. Understood?” Kevin asked, gently tilting his head up to look him in those big brown wet eyes.

Jake nodded. “Yes, dad. I understand.” He said. Kevin smiled, placing a gentle but proud kiss to Jake’s forehead.

Jake blushed softly, resting against the man completely. They stayed like that for a while, just enjoying each other's company, before they were eventually interrupted.

“Dinner is ready.” Ray said, his tone as calm as ever. “I poured your orange soda in a nice glass of ice to keep it chilled.” Raymond said, giving Jake a warm look.

Jake’s eyes lit up. “With a red bendy straw?” He asked. Raymond nodded. “Indeed.” He said.

Jake smiled, hopping to his feet. “Well, what are we waiting for?!” He shouted, running out of the room. “Jacob, running. Stairs.” Kevin reminded him.

Jake had fortunately listened and adjusted his speed accordingly before his clumsiness could overtake him.

Dinner was admittedly delicious, his orange soda was amazing, Jake felt forgiven, and his dads were happy that their son was safe and sound.

And if you saw him sitting on a pillow in his seat the next day at his desk…no you didn’t.
