Flu Outbreak

Summary:

Sequel to my fic about Bakugo getting the flu (where the last sentence mentioned that there was an outbreak in the dorms).

Work Text:

“You thirsty, bro?” Sero snickered at lunch as Kirishima downed half a bottle of water.

“Yeah, my throat’s been really dry today,” Kirishima answered once he was done chugging. And despite having just chugged all that water, it was still dry.

“Are you getting sick?” Mina asked with a raised eyebrow, placing a hand on her boyfriend’s cheek.

“I feel fine, Mina. Just a dry throat,” Eijiro assured her.

“Well, you don’t feel warm,” Mina sighed, moving her hand away. “Just let me know if you start feeling bad. You have been around Bakugo a lot the past couple of days, so it wouldn’t be surprising if you catch what he’s had.” Kirishima gave a nod in agreement.

“Hey, you’re more out of breath than usual, you okay?” Mina asked as they were headed back to the dorms after hero training.

“Yeah, I’m fine. Just… might need to relax for a bit,” Eijiro replied.

That night, the Bakusquad (minus Bakugo himself, who was resting up in his room) decided to have a movie night in the common room since it was Friday.

Kirishima wasn’t entirely sure what movie they were watching. His head was pounding, and his throat throbbed. He couldn’t breathe through his nose, and he was gaining a small cough. And was the common room always this hot? He swore it wasn’t usually this hot.

He leaned against the armrest of the couch, the colors of the TV blurring as his eyelids drooped. He kept blinking awake, but in the end, he lost the battle and fell into a deep sleep.

“I’ll be honest, that movie left a lot to be desired,” Mina commented when the credits started rolling.

“Yeah. I mean, there was no character development,” Sero added.

“The characters were already kind of lifeless to begin with,” Jiro stated. “There was nothing about them to make you get attached to them.”

“And it wasn’t even funny,” Kaminari joined. “It’s labeled as a comedy, yet none of us laughed a single time!”

“It’s probably a good thing Bakugo didn’t watch it with us. He probably would have gotten pretty angry at it for how bad it sucked,” Mina replied. “What did you think of it, Eijiro?”

No answer came from the redheaded boy. Mina turned to look at him, discovering that he was fast asleep against the arm of the couch.

“Must have been really boring if Kirishima fell asleep,” Kaminari said. “That guy can sit through pretty much anything.”

Mina wasn’t listening as she looked closer at her boyfriend. His body was trembling as if he were cold, but his cheeks were flushed with heat. His breathing was a little labored, with quiet coughs mixed in.

She gently pushed some hair off Kirishima’s face, resting her hand on his forehead for a minute. Heat radiated onto her palm.

“What are you doing, Mina?” Jiro questioned.

“I knew he was getting sick,” Mina sighed. “He’s burning up.”

Mina grabbed a blanket kept in a stack next to the couch, laying it over the sleeping boy.

“Whoa, you look exhausted,” Sero commented when he found Mina in the kitchen the next morning. “Did you get any sleep last night?”

“Maybe a few hours altogether,” Mina replied, placing the toast she’d just made on a plate with some apple slices. “I was taking care of Eijiro. This flu really got to his stomach.”

“Poor guy,” Sero responded.

“He’s feeling a bit better now, so I’m going to bring him some breakfast. Just some plain toast and apples. Kind of boring, but will be easy on his stomach.”

“Seems like a good idea.”

It was the next day that the flu hit Mina, too. Neither she nor Kirishima could get themselves to move out of the common room, and the class was fine to leave them there.

The two mainly lounged on the couches, watching whatever anime they desired, except when they chose to nap for a few hours, planning on starting a new show after they woke up.

Strangely, Todoroki joined them for the next show they watched. He didn’t say a word as they watched, never taking his eyes off the screen. Although Mina could have sworn she’d seen him holding tears back, watching how the main girl was treated by her family.

“Whoa, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Todoroki look so invested in something,” Denki commented when he walked through the room later. It was true, Todoroki was practically on the edge of his seat as the main girl’s arranged fiancé was saving her from her own family (who had kidnapped her after she’d been living away from them for a bit).

Todoroki and Denki came down with the flu the following day. But Todoroki was perfectly happy to continue watching anime in the common room with Mina and Kirishima. Denki and Katsuki ended up joining as well.

“Okay, what is happening right now?” Denki asked after a bit of watching.

“Oh, she’s going into his dreams so she can bring him back to you know, awakeness. You see, he’s infected by a curse-” Mina started to explain, pausing the show so she wouldn’t miss anything while doing so.

“How the f*** did that happen?” Katsuki asked, his voice still a little hoarse (as he was still getting over the flu).

“He was involved in an attack with a powerful grotesquerie,” Todoroki answered this time. “I believe he will be okay, telling that there’s still quite a bit after this.”
The show was then unpaused.

The next morning, the flu hit Sero, Jiro, Izuku, and Tsu. And by that evening, Ochaco and Iida were sick too.

Katsuki was feeling a lot better and helped Sato make some soup for everyone who was sick.

The next day, it was Sato, Momo, Mineta, and Tokoyami who were hit.

Katsuki took on a bit of a caretaker role, seeing as how he felt mostly better and didn’t think he could stand lying around anymore. And he wasn’t at any risk of catching the sickness from his classmates, since he’d gotten it first anyway.

The next day saw Koda, Aoyama, and Hagakure coming down with it. Kirishima and Mina were both feeling quite a bit better, and helped Bakugo make dinner.

Ojiro and Shoji were the last of the class to get sick. Then it’d been passed along to Aizawa and Eri. And then to Togata. Then to Amajiki and Hado. And so on and so forth.

Safe to say that flu passed through a lot of people.

Notes:

If anyone's curious, the anime that Mina, Kirishima, and Todoroki were watching (that Todoroki was very invested it) is called My Happy Marriage. It's on Netflix if you'd like to try it out :> Or if you've already watched it, you have good taste, my friend.
