Work Text:
Fingers flicked through blue hair as Yuki approached her friend group, looking forward to their day out as well as flaunting her parents’ status as lead scientists on the project, with standing that rivaled Yaoyorozu-san, who came from an elite family, but she held herself as if her family came from the same kind of generational wealth as the other girl.
But then she paused, frowning, surprised to see Yaoyorozu Momo standing there, confusion setting in. She walked over and, with great bravado, declared, “What are you doing here, Yaoyoruzu-san?”
To which the other girls—
They looked at her as if she were a fly on the wall, with disdain her friend group never had before, the level of disdain originally reserved for Yaoyorozu, who remained so shy. One of the girls frowned. “You. Why are you acting like…”
“Are we going shopping or not?” Yuki said, smiling, knowing full well that, despite Yaoyoruzu Momo’s wealth, the girl wasn’t allowed to flaunt it on trivial fads deemed beneath her, with everything bought by the family servants.
“What are you talking about?”
“We’re going to the new cafe, Yaoyorozu’s treat.”
“Don’t tell her that. She wasn’t invited.”
Which hit hard as Yuki stared, the corner of her mouth twitching. “What do you mean I wasn’t…”
“Everyone here except you has a Quirk.”
“Quirk, what’s a Quirk?” Yuki asked.
“Ah…” Yaoyorozu held out her hand, looking concerned, something Yuki didn’t like.
“When will you accept the fact that Quirks exist, and you don’t have one?”
“Maybe we could hang out if you did,” the other girl said, pulling Yaoyorozu away as she bowed.
“Sorry. Maybe next time?”
Yuki frowned, not wanting Yaoyorozu-san’s pity, and yet her stomach churned. “What gives? Why am I suddenly cursed…”
“Because you dared to choose a world of destruction over a world of hope, simply to save those who would not be born in the world of hope, ignoring those who were not born in the world of destruction but would have been in the world of hope. And now, a new world, a world of heroes, where you don’t get to be the hero you so craved.”
Yuki frowned, the thought, the curse, slowly setting in, but it wouldn’t settle in until much later.
