    Carol is still alive. All evidence to the contrary, Maria can’t stop believing this, and she’s almost certain it’s not a matter of not letting herself believe it – her gut tells her that it isn’t true, and her gut is something she has to trust, or there’s nothing left to make decisions with. It’s just that if Carol is still alive, then Maria is cheating, and if Maria is cheating… she doesn’t want to hurt Carol that badly when she can’t even be here to talk it through.
