The Biggest Leaf in the Forest

Summary:

“Dis for you!!”

Four-year-old Jimin runs through the forest carrying the biggest leaf he can find, just to give it to Yoongi for his birthday.

Years later, the tradition is still alive—only now there’s a cottage in the woods, a married wolf and vampire, and a toddler with wolf ears and tiny fangs who insists they love Papa the most.

Or: a soft little story about leaves, love, and the family Yoongi never knew he needed.

Notes:

this is a tiny fic written to celebrate my very first and biggest love in bts: min yoongi.

it’s honestly just something soft and a little silly—very much like him. he was my first true bias and he’ll probably stay that way forever.

sometimes i feel like we’re more alike than i expected. i see pieces of myself in him, and it makes me really happy to watch him succeed and grow.

and maybe, in my stories, i get to give him a park jimin to kiss in a thousand different universes.

Work Text:

Deep in the quiet forest behind the village, little Min Yoongi sat on a mossy rock with his bare feet in the dirt, his messy dark hair stuck out in every direction, and his two soft gray wolf ears twitched whenever a bird chirped nearby as his fluffy gray tail swished lazily behind him.

He was supposed to be practicing hunting with the other wolf kids but instead, he was watching a beetle crawl across the ground.

Yoongi leaned down and nudged it gently with a twig.

“Go dis way,” he muttered seriously. “Dat’s where da cool rocks are.”

The beetle ignored him completely as Yoongi sighed, then his ears twitched, there was a rustle sound in the bushes.

Yoongi froze, that noise wasn’t a bird or a squirrel.

His wolf ears perked straight up and carefully, he sniffed the air the way the older wolves had taught him, the scent was strange—cool and sweet, almost like nighttime.

He stood up slowly.

“Hewwo?” he called.

The bush shook again then a tiny face peeked out. Soft blond hair, round cheeks, and wide curious eyes, when the boy blinked, two small fangs showed in his smile.

It was Park Jimin.

Jimin stared at Yoongi.

Yoongi stared at Jimin.

For a few seconds, neither of them spoke, then Jimin lifted a finger and pointed at Yoongi’s ears.

“Doggy.”

Yoongi gasped, immediately offended.

“I’m not a doggy!”

Jimin tilted his head, thinking very hard.

“fwuffy doggy?”

“I’m a wolf!” Yoongi huffed, stomping one foot. “A big one!”

Jimin considered this information very seriously.

“oh.”

He stepped out of the bushes completely, he was wearing a dark coat that was a little too big for him, the sleeves hanging past his hands like a tiny cape.

“You fwuffy wolf,” Jimin decided.

Yoongi paused.

“yeah.”

That sounded acceptable. Jimin walked a little closer, staring at Yoongi’s ears like they were the most fascinating thing in the world.

“You smell weird,” Yoongi said bluntly.

Jimin’s mouth dropped open.

“I do not!”

“You do too.”

“I smell nice!”

Yoongi sniffed the air again.

“you smell like cold.”

Jimin blinked in confusion.

“Oh.”

He looked down at himself.

“Mama says dat’s ’cause I’m a vampir.”

Yoongi frowned.

“A what?”

“A vam… vam… vampir.” Jimin puffed his cheeks trying to pronounce it properly. “We drink wed joose.”

Yoongi thought about that for a moment.

“okay.”

They stood quietly for a second then Jimin pointed up again.

“Can I touchy?”

Yoongi hesitated. Wolf ears were important but the tiny vampire looked very serious about it.

“only a lil.”

Jimin stood on his tiptoes and gently touched one of Yoongi’s ears, his eyes went wide immediately.

“Soooo soft!”

Yoongi grinned proudly.

“I know.”

Jimin started patting both ears carefully now.

“You da softest wolf.”

“And you da smallest vampir,” Yoongi replied.

Jimin nodded proudly.

“I am.”

Another quiet moment passed between them as they looked at each other then Yoongi bent down and picked a small white flower growing in the grass, he held it out awkwardly.

“For you.”

Jimin’s entire face lit up.

“For me?”

“Yeah.”

Jimin took the flower carefully, holding it like it was something very precious.

“you my best fwen now.”

Yoongi blinked as they had only known each other for a few minutes but Jimin liked his ears, so that seemed fair.

“okay.”

Jimin suddenly wrapped his tiny arms around Yoongi in a hug as he froze for a second before slowly hugging him back, his wolf tail started wagging without him noticing.

Jimin pulled away and smiled, little fangs peeking out again.

“When we big,” Jimin said very seriously, “I gonna mawwy you.”

Yoongi blinked.

“okay.”

He didn’t really know what that meant but it sounded nice and Jimin still had the flower so Yoongi decided it was a very good plan.

Above them, the forest stayed warm and quiet while a tiny wolf child and a baby vampire sat together in the grass, already very sure they had found their most important friend in the whole world.

🍃🐺🦇🍃

Morning sunlight spilled through the trees as little Min Yoongi wandered into the clearing where he and Park Jimin usually met.

Yoongi looked especially proud today, his wolf ears were perked up high, and his tail swished behind him like he had a secret.

Jimin was sitting in the grass stacking small pebbles into a very serious tower, his oversized coat sleeves covering half his hands as he carefully balanced one more rock on top.

The rock immediately fell.

“Aw…”

Jimin looked up when he heard footsteps, his face brightened instantly.

“Yoongi!”

Yoongi plopped down beside him.

“Hewwo.”

Jimin squinted at him.

“You look funny.”

“I do not.”

“You do.”

Yoongi crossed his arms, trying to look important.

“It’s ’cause it’s my birfday.”

Jimin froze.

“your birfday?”

“Yeah.”

Jimin blinked very slowly then suddenly he gasped like this was the most serious emergency in the world.

“WAIT.”

Before Yoongi could say anything else, Jimin scrambled to his feet.

“I gotta get somethin!!”

And he ran straight into the forest as Yoongi watched him disappear between the trees.

“okay.”

For a moment everything was quiet again. Yoongi started poking at the dirt with a stick while he waited, a few birds chirped, some leaves rustled.

Then—

“YOONGI!!”

Jimin came crashing back through the bushes, slightly out of breath, his hair messy and leaves stuck to his coat, in both of his tiny hands he held the biggest leaf he could find, it was enormous compared to his face and he ran up and shoved it proudly toward Yoongi.

“Dis for you!!”

Yoongi blinked.

The leaf was huge, bright green and shaped like a heart. Jimin was smiling like he had just discovered treasure.

“for me?” Yoongi asked.

Jimin nodded very fast.

“’Cause it your birfday!”

Yoongi carefully took the leaf, it was a little bent and had a tiny bug hole in the corner but he held it like it was something important.

“it’s big.”

“I find da BIGGEST one!” Jimin said proudly. “I look an look an look!”

Yoongi looked at the leaf again then at Jimin.

His wolf tail started wagging.

“it’s da best birfday gift.”

Jimin gasped happily.

“It is??”

“Yeah.”

Jimin beamed so hard his eyes disappeared into little crescents then he suddenly leaned forward and hugged Yoongi tightly.

“Happy birfday, Yoongi!”

Yoongi hugged him back, careful not to crumple the giant leaf.

“fank you.”

Jimin pulled back and pointed very seriously at the leaf.

“You gotta keep it forever.”

Yoongi nodded just as seriously.

“forever.”

And for the rest of the afternoon, the wolf child and the tiny vampire sat together in the grass, guarding the biggest birthday leaf in the entire forest like it was the most important treasure in the world.

🍃🐺🦇🍃

Five-year-old Park Jimin had been staring at Yoongi’s ears very seriously.

Seven-year-old Yoongi was lying in the grass, chewing on a blade of grass like he’d seen older wolves do.

Jimin leaned closer.

Closer.

Closer.

Then suddenly—chomp.

Yoongi yelped.

“HEY!”

Jimin blinked up at him, confused.

“What you doin?!” Yoongi demanded, holding his ear.

Jimin tilted his head.

“lovin you.”

Yoongi squinted.

“That not how lovin works!”

Jimin frowned.

“But mama bite papa.”

Yoongi paused.

“oh.”

They both thought about that very seriously then Yoongi shrugged.

“okay but not my ears.”

🍃🐺🦇🍃

Yoongi came running into the clearing with something clutched proudly in his hands.

“Jimin! Jimin!”

Jimin looked up from drawing shapes in the dirt.

“What?”

Yoongi dropped three things into his lap: a shiny rock, a weird looking stick and a very dead beetle.

Jimin stared at them then at Yoongi.

“Gifts,” Yoongi said proudly.

Jimin pointed at the beetle.

“why dis one dead.”

Yoongi shrugged.

“It was already like dat.”

Jimin thought about it then he carefully picked up the shiny rock.

“dis one nice.”

Yoongi’s tail wagged.

🍃🐺🦇🍃

Jimin was sitting on a log while Yoongi splashed in the river nearby when suddenly Yoongi climbed out of the water, without his wolf ears.

Jimin stared.

Then his lip trembled.

“Yoongi?”

“What?”

“your ears gone.”

Yoongi blinked.

“Oh. They do dat sometimes.”

Jimin’s eyes filled with tears.

“YOU BROKE DEM.”

“I did not!”

“You did!!”

Yoongi scrambled over quickly.

“They come back!”

“WHEN??”

“later.”

Jimin burst into dramatic crying.

Yoongi panicked and hugged him immediately.

“Don’t cry! I fix dem later!”

🍃🐺🦇🍃

The forest clearing hadn’t changed much over the years. The same tall trees stretched overhead, their leaves whispering in the wind, the same patch of moss-covered rocks sat in the middle of the clearing where two children had once met by accident. Now, many years later, Min Yoongi sat on that same rock again, only this time, he wasn’t a scruffy six-year-old wolf pup, he was fully grown, broad-shouldered, with silver-gray wolf ears that flicked lazily whenever the breeze shifted, his tail rested behind him as he watched the forest quietly, a small content smile on his face.

It was his birthday. He hadn’t told many people—he usually didn’t make a big deal about it but one person always remembered. Back at the small house nearby, Park Jimin hurried through the trees with something carefully hidden behind his back.

Jimin was smiling to himself because today wasn’t just Yoongi’s birthday, it was the perfect day.

He stepped into the clearing and Yoongi immediately noticed him.

“There you are,” Yoongi said, his voice warm. “I was starting to think you got lost.”

Jimin laughed softly.

“I didn’t get lost.”

Yoongi tilted his head slightly.

“Then what were you doing?”

Jimin stopped a few steps away from him, hands still hidden behind his back, his eyes sparkled with mischief.

“I have your birthday gift.”

Yoongi raised an eyebrow.

“My birthday gift?”

Jimin nodded.

“Yep.”

Yoongi leaned back on the rock, amused.

“Should I be worried?”

“Maybe.”

That definitely made Yoongi suspicious.

“Jimin.”

“Yes?”

“What did you do?”

Jimin giggled and finally pulled his hands forward, in them was a huge green leaf. Yoongi froze, for a moment he just stared at it: the shape, the size, the memory and a slow smile spread across his face.

“You found the biggest leaf again,” he said.

Jimin beamed.

“I had to.”

Yoongi reached out and took it carefully just like he had years ago but this time, something was written across the surface in dark ink.

Yoongi frowned slightly and looked closer.

The message was simple:

“Happy Birthday.”

And beneath it—

“You’re going to be a dad.”

Yoongi blinked, then he slowly looked up.

“Jimin.”

Jimin shifted nervously, suddenly shy despite the smile on his face.

“Yes?”

“Is this real?”

Jimin nodded.

“I found out this morning.”

Yoongi looked back down at the leaf again, reading the words another time as if they might disappear.

“You’re pregnant?” he asked quietly.

“Yes.”

“With my baby?”

Jimin laughed softly.

“With our baby.”

That was the moment Yoongi’s composure completely broke, his wolf ears shot up and his tail started wagging wildly behind him, in one quick step he pulled Jimin into a tight hug.

Jimin laughed in surprise.

“Yoongi!”

“You gave me another leaf,” Yoongi said into his hair.

Jimin smiled against his shoulder.

“Well, it’s your birthday.”

Yoongi pulled back just enough to look at him, his eyes were bright with happiness.

“This is the best birthday gift I’ve ever gotten.”

Jimin grinned.

“Better than the first leaf?”

Yoongi glanced down at the big green leaf in his hand then back at Jimin.

“Way better.”

Jimin leaned forward until their foreheads touched.

“You still have to keep it forever.”

Yoongi nodded immediately.

“Forever.”

And in the quiet clearing where a wolf child and a tiny vampire had once become best friends, they stood together again—holding another oversized leaf, celebrating a birthday, and waiting for the newest little member of their family to arrive.

🍃🐺🦇🍃

The small house at the edge of the forest had never been so full of nervous energy. Min Yoongi had paced a path into the wooden floor, back and forth, his wolf ears were straight up, his tail flicking anxiously behind him. From the bedroom down the hall, he could hear Jimin breathing and the quiet voices of the healer helping him.

Yoongi stopped pacing for about three seconds then he started again, he had fought monsters before, he had hunted in winter storms and none of that had prepared him for this.

A small cry suddenly echoed through the house.

Yoongi froze as everything went completely still then the healer’s voice called from the bedroom.

“You can come in now.”

Yoongi nearly tripped over the doorway getting there. The room smelled warm and soft, like herbs and clean blankets, Jimin was resting against the pillows, looking tired but glowing with happiness.

And in his arms…a tiny bundle wrapped in a blanket.

Jimin smiled when he saw Yoongi.

“You’re pacing holes in the floor.”

Yoongi walked closer slowly, like he was afraid the moment might disappear if he moved too fast.

“Are you okay?”

“I’m okay,” Jimin said gently.

Yoongi nodded, still staring at the bundle.

“Is the baby okay?”

Jimin’s smile widened.

“Come see.”

Yoongi sat carefully on the edge of the bed as Jimin shifted the blanket slightly so Yoongi could see.

The baby was very small, soft dark hair, tiny hands curled into fists and on top of the baby’s head—two little gray wolf ears twitched sleepily.

Yoongi made a small sound of pure amazement.

“They have my ears.”

Jimin laughed softly.

“Yeah.”

As if hearing them talk, the baby opened their mouth in a tiny yawn.

Two very small fangs peeked out.

Yoongi’s eyes widened.

“And your fangs.”

“Looks like we shared,” Jimin said.

Yoongi stared at the baby like he had just discovered the most unbelievable thing in the world. The little wolf ears twitched again as Yoongi slowly reached out and brushed one gently with his finger.

The baby squeaked.

Yoongi immediately panicked.

“Did I break it??”

Jimin laughed quietly.

“You didn’t break the baby.”

“I might have!”

“You barely touched them.”

The baby wiggled slightly, then made a soft sleepy noise and grabbed Yoongi’s finger with their tiny hand.

Yoongi went completely still as his tail slowly started wagging.

“They’re holding me.”

“Yeah,” Jimin said softly.

Yoongi looked up at him, eyes shining.

“We made this.”

Jimin nodded.

“We did.”

For a moment they just looked at their baby together then Jimin tilted his head slightly, nodding towards the baby.

“When they get older, they’re going to bring you the biggest leaves too.”

Yoongi looked down at the tiny baby again and the wolf ears twitched, the little fangs peeking out during another sleepy yawn.

Yoongi smiled.

“Good.”

Jimin laughed softly.

“You’re already planning it, aren’t you?”

Yoongi nodded very seriously.

“They have to find the biggest one.”

Jimin shook his head fondly and leaned against Yoongi’s shoulder. The baby slept peacefully between them, small ears twitching every so often.

🍃🐺🦇🍃

Morning sunlight filled the little house at the edge of the forest. In the kitchen, Min Yoongi was trying to cook breakfast while also holding a very clingy toddler on his hip. Their child had inherited the best, and most chaotic, features from both parents: soft dark hair, two tiny gray wolf ears sticking out on top of their head and when they giggled, two little vampire fangs peeked out.

Right now, the toddler was clinging to Yoongi’s shirt like a tiny koala.

“Up,” they demanded again.

“You’re already up,” Yoongi said patiently.

“No. UP.”

“This is up.”

The toddler considered this argument very seriously.

“more up.”

Yoongi sighed but lifted them a little higher. Satisfied, the toddler rested their chin on his shoulder, their fluffy ears twitching curiously as they watched him cook.

Across the room, Park Jimin walked in, still sleepy, his hair messy from bed.

The toddler spotted him immediately.

“Appa!”

Jimin’s entire face lit up.

“Well good morning,” he said, walking over as the toddler reached toward him dramatically.

“Up!”

Yoongi raised an eyebrow.

“I thought you wanted more up.”

“I want Appa up.”

“Of course you do.”

Jimin laughed and kissed the toddler’s cheek before looking at Yoongi.

“You look tired.”

“I’ve been negotiating with a two-foot dictator for twenty minutes.”

The toddler poked Yoongi’s cheek.

“I not dic-tay-ter.”

Jimin giggled.

“See? Very innocent.”

Yoongi rolled his eyes fondly, before he could say anything else, Jimin suddenly leaned forward and planted a very loud, exaggerated kiss on Yoongi’s cheek.

“Mwah!”

Yoongi blinked in surprise, the toddler gasped like they had just witnessed magic.

“AGAIN.”

Jimin laughed.

“What?”

“AGAIN!”

Jimin leaned over and kissed Yoongi again.

“Mwah!”

The toddler squealed happily, tiny ears bouncing then they looked at Yoongi very seriously.

“Your turn.”

Yoongi blinked.

“My turn?”

“Yes.”

Jimin grinned mischievously.

“Go on.”

Yoongi sighed dramatically but leaned over and gave Jimin a quick kiss as the toddler clapped immediately.

“YAY!”

Then they suddenly grabbed Yoongi’s face with both tiny hands.

“Now me.”

Yoongi froze.

“What?”

Before he could react, the toddler leaned forward and gave him the loudest, messiest kiss imaginable right on the nose.

“MWWAH!”

Yoongi went completely still as the toddler leaned back proudly.

“Kiss!”

Jimin burst out laughing.

“Oh my god.”

Yoongi stared at the toddler.

“Did you just kiss my nose?”

The toddler nodded proudly.

“Yes.”

Then they turned toward Jimin.

“Appa turn.”

Jimin leaned closer.

“Okay.”

The toddler grabbed his face too with another giant kiss.

“MWWAH!”

Jimin laughed so hard he almost tipped over.

“You’re very good at that.”

The toddler beamed proudly, tiny fangs showing, then they looked between both of their parents and made a very important decision:

“Group kiss.”

Yoongi squinted.

“Group what?”

The toddler grabbed both of their faces and squished them together.

“MWWAH!!”

For a moment all three of them were tangled together, laughing in the kitchen. Yoongi sighed but couldn’t hide the smile on his face as Jimin rested his head against Yoongi’s shoulder, still giggling.

Their toddler clung happily between them, wolf ears twitching and tiny fangs shining with pride clearly very satisfied with their excellent kissing skills.

🍃🐺🦇🍃

Late afternoon sunlight spilled across the living room floor of the little house by the forest, Min Yoongi was stretched out on the couch, half-dozing after a long day, one arm rested over his eyes, his gray wolf ears drooping sleepily to the side while his tail hung off the edge of the couch.

Across the room, Park Jimin sat on the rug with their toddler. Their child was busy stacking wooden blocks into a very unstable tower, their tiny wolf ears twitched with concentration, and every so often their little fangs peeked out when they hummed to themselves.

Jimin leaned closer and whispered dramatically.

“Hey.”

The toddler looked up.

“What?”

Jimin glanced toward the couch where Yoongi was resting.

“You know something?”

“What?”

Jimin grinned.

“I love your papa the most.”

The toddler gasped.

“No!”

“Yes.”

The toddler immediately stood up, wobbling slightly on their little legs.

“I love Papa MOST!”

Jimin shook his head confidently.

“Nope. I met him first.”

The toddler squinted suspiciously.

“dat cheating.”

“It’s not cheating. It’s history.”

The toddler marched closer to the couch, pointing a tiny finger.

“I love Papa BIG BIG.”

Jimin followed behind them, amused.

“Oh yeah? I love him bigger than that.”

The toddler stretched both arms as wide as possible.

“DIS BIG!”

Jimin crossed his arms.

“That’s cute. I love him forest big.”

The toddler froze.

“forest big?”

“Yep.”

The toddler stared at the forest outside the window, clearly calculating.

Then they turned back determined.

“I love Papa sky big!”

Jimin gasped dramatically.

“Sky big?!”

The toddler nodded proudly.

“Yes.”

Jimin tapped his chin thoughtfully.

“Well, I love him universe big.”

The toddler’s mouth fell open.

“dat too big.”

Jimin smirked.

“Exactly.”

The toddler thought about this very hard then they climbed onto the couch next to Yoongi and carefully hugged his arm.

Yoongi stirred slightly but didn’t wake up as the toddler pressed their cheek against his shoulder.

“I love Papa forever big,” they declared.

Jimin blinked.

“Okay that’s pretty strong.”

The toddler looked very smug but Jimin wasn’t done. He leaned over the back of the couch and gently wrapped his arms around both of them.

“Well,” he said softly, resting his chin on Yoongi’s shoulder, “I love him forever and ever big.”

The toddler gasped again.

“dat illegal.”

Jimin laughed quietly.

“Too late.”

Yoongi finally opened one sleepy eye.

“Why are you two measuring my love like it’s a competition?”

The toddler hugged him tighter.

“I win.”

Jimin immediately protested.

“Excuse me?”

Yoongi sighed but smiled, pulling both of them closer.

“You’re both ridiculous.”

The toddler looked up at him.

“Papa, who love you most?”

Yoongi pretended to think about it very seriously.

“Hmm.”

Both Jimin and the toddler leaned closer, waiting.

Yoongi smiled softly.

“I think I love you two the most.”

The toddler gasped happily.

“I win again!”

Jimin groaned dramatically while the toddler giggled, their tiny wolf ears bouncing with excitement as Yoongi just held them both close, perfectly content being loved sky big, forest big, and forever big all at the same time.

🍃🐺🦇🍃

The house was quiet in the early evening, warm light from the setting sun spilled through the windows, painting the living room in soft gold, the forest outside rustled gently with the wind.

Min Yoongi was sitting on the couch with their toddler curled comfortably against his chest, one small hand held onto his shirt while the other played with the drawstring absentmindedly, their tiny wolf ears twitched sleepily.

Across the room, Park Jimin was finishing cleaning up the toys scattered across the floor.

Yoongi watched him for a moment, his tail slowly swishing behind the couch then he spoke quietly.

“Jimin.”

Jimin looked up.

“Yeah?”

“Come here.”

Jimin smiled softly and walked over, sitting down beside them.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.”

Yoongi shifted the toddler slightly so they were sitting between him and Jimin now, the little one blinked up at both of them.

“Hi.”

Jimin laughed softly.

“Hello, tiny chaos.”

The toddler grinned proudly, tiny fangs peeking out. Yoongi looked at them both for a moment then he leaned down and kissed the toddler’s forehead gently.

“Mwah.”

The toddler giggled immediately.

“Again!”

Yoongi kissed them again.

“Mwah.”

Satisfied, the toddler leaned happily against him then Yoongi turned to Jimin and kissed him too, slow and soft.

Jimin blinked in surprise when they pulled apart.

“What was that for?”

Yoongi shrugged a little.

“I was just thinking.”

“That’s dangerous,” Jimin teased.

Yoongi rolled his eyes.

“I mean it.”

He looked down at the toddler again, gently brushing a finger over one of their tiny wolf ears as the toddler wiggled happily then Yoongi looked back at Jimin.

“You know,” he said quietly, “people talk a lot about the best things in life.”

Jimin tilted his head.

“Yeah?”

Yoongi nodded.

“Big houses. Big cars. Big rings. Whatever.”

The toddler raised a hand.

“I like snacks.”

Jimin laughed.

“Valid point.”

Yoongi smiled and pulled them both closer.

“But honestly” he continued softly, “there’s no better gift than this.”

Jimin looked at him.

“What do you mean?”

Yoongi rested his forehead gently against Jimin’s.

“Having your love.”

Then he glanced down at their toddler.

“And theirs.”

The toddler blinked up at him.

“I gift?”

Yoongi chuckled.

“The best one.”

The toddler immediately wrapped their arms around Yoongi’s neck.

“I love Papa.”

Jimin leaned into the hug too, resting his head against Yoongi’s shoulder.

“I love you too,” Jimin murmured.

Yoongi hugged them both tighter, his tail swayed slowly behind the couch. Outside, the forest rustled peacefully in the evening breeze while inside the little house, a wolf, a vampire, and their tiny child stayed wrapped together—perfectly certain they already had the greatest gift in the world.

Notes:

thank you for spending a little time in this tiny forest universe with them.

i hope it felt warm and soft, like finding the biggest leaf in the world and giving it to someone you love.

happy birthday to my first love in the universe, yoongi.
