Work Text:
Gojo Satoru had always been a bit of a romantic, and that applied tenfold when it came to you. There was nothing he wouldn’t do when it came to making you smile, to making sure you knew just how much he valued you. From the very first date he’d taken you on, he’d been nothing short of a gentleman, if a chaotic one prone to making inappropriate jokes. The jokes were a part of his charm. There was no yen amount that was too much, no gesture too large or too small, there may in fact just be nothing he wasn’t willing to do for you.
Your wedding was beautiful, everything that you’d ever dreamed of. Gojo had done abolutely everything in his power, and even some things beyond it, to ensure it was absolutely perfect. The photograph of the two of you that hung in the entryway to your home was one of your favourites from the day, just a candid of the two of you laughing together on the dancefloor, a perfect snippet of the warm love between you.
Years later, he’d never stopped making you smile like that.
He was as ridiculous as ever, even at his big age. Nothing seemed to dim his light. After long days, or hard ones, there was nobody better to go home to. He never failed to make you smile, to force a laugh out of you even on the hardest days, even if it took the entire day to make it happen, and he’d hold you through every moment of it.
The other thing he’d never stopped doing, was dating you. No matter what changed between the two of you, or how you aged and grew together, he was insistent that he would never stop making sure he was dating you. He’d seen the advice once in a magazine and truly taken it to heart. It made sense to him - of course just because you got married didn’t mean he’d stop taking you to dinner or for walks through the park on sunny days, or whatever else he could come up with.
It was just a normal Tuesday. There was nothing special about it. You were at work when you got the text.
Husband: Date tonight?
You: Where are we going?
Husband: Surprise ;3
Husband: Be ready for 7
Husband: Dress casual
And that was all you got. There was no sense in attempting to pester him for more information because you’d learned over the years that it was a pointless venture, he would refuse outright to tell you, because he liked surprising you. So you finished your work day, all with a small fond smile on your face with the knowledge that tonight would be just the two of you together, like you were 21 all over again.
You finished work at 5, and by 5:30 a bouquet of flowers had arrived at your door, because of course they had. A combination of your favourites, with a sappy note included. Bless the florist that had to write it for him. When Gojo arrived to pick you up at 7, they were safely prepped and slipped into a vase.
“Hey sweets.” He greeted when he slipped inside, hands reaching for you before anything else, even as he tracked mud inside.
“Shoes, Satoru.” You scolded, even if you couldn’t deny him, your own arms reaching to wrap around him too.
“Kiss first.” He insisted with that little smirk that still made your stomach flip after all these years. You indulged him, because you always did, even if that had made him utterly spoiled. He spent a long while there just kissing you, like the two of you had all the time in the world.
“I thought we were going out.” You managed to murmur between kisses, unable to stop the soft laughter that poured from your lips when Gojo set about pressing quick kisses all over your face instead.
“We are. In a second.” He replied dismissively, large hands wrapped around your hips pulling you in closer as lips trailed further downwards.
“You’re going to get distracted.” You accused as he started to nip the skin of your throat, not enough to leave any marks but enough to be felt.
“Not.” Gojo insisted, but reluctantly he did pull back. For just a moment, his eyes simply roamed his face, like he was absorbing every detail, something he’d done a hundred times before.
“Go get dressed.”
“I’m going.” He sighed as he pulled away from you, kicking off his shoes to leave them haphazardly in the middle of the floor, though you didn’t bother scolding him. Just moved them aside silently, setting them against the wall where they couldn’t be tripped over.
The date was nothing particularly ‘special’, just a small picnic taken to a local park. But it didn’t need to be special, did it? You’d been on just about every grand date either of you could come up with over the years. The mundane could be just as sweet too, because it was time spent together. Your pinkies hooked together where your hands rested against the blanket, eyes on the stars in the sky above, the quiet of the wind and critters of the park a soothing alternative to the usual noise of life.
“Did you know,” Gojo started after a long silent, a mochi half way to his lips, “that today is the anniversary of the day I saw you for the first time.”
“It’s what?” You asked with a soft, disbelieving laugh. You turned to look at the man beside you, eyes slightly wide.
“Yep. I didn’t even speak to you that day, I was too lovestruck. But it’s the anniversary of that day. The day I knew I needed you to be mine.” He told you shamelessly, his grin bright and boyish.
“You’re insane.” You accused, even as you laughed. Of course that was something he just knew, something he’d been silently keeping track of all these years.
“Insane about you, maybe.”
The kiss that followed was sweet, soft, like they’d all been back at the very beginning. No hurried exploration with hands or tongue, no tilted heads to push things just that little bit deeper, that little bit further. Just a tender press of lips that said a thousand things you couldn’t find the words for. When you parted, a mochi was pressed to your lips with that soft little giggle you loved hearing from him. You couldn’t deny him, only to be surprised again when your lips met his at the centre of the treat, half each enjoyed with the most ridiculous of kisses.
