Chapter Text
“You have 5 minutes remaining,” echoed Mr Harrington to the class.
Peter couldn’t think of a better five words to be hearing in that moment. He, of course, had finished forty minutes ago and had been the watching the clock tick while deconstructing and constructing his pen over, and over, and over again. To his right was Ned, with a very confused look on his face, who was busy scratching away at the question paper with the Stark Industries pen that Peter gifted him last week. On his left, Flash, who was rocking on his chair with his feet kicked up onto the desk in front him, leaving shoe marks on his unfinished exam.
Just as Peter thought he was about to go insane, Mr Harrington cleared his throat and announced that the exam had come to and end. He walked around the classroom collecting the papers and set them on his desk at the front. A quiet murmur had arisen around the room with people debriefing the test. He heard Betty and Cindy whispering about the answer to question five, both were wrong. He was interrupted from his eavesdropping by an eager looking Ned tapping him on the shoulder and pointing towards Mr Harrington who had taken a stance at the front of the classroom holding a new stack of paper.
“Alright guys quiet down please I have something to tell you all” He looked aflutter, as if he couldn’t hold his announcement in any longer.
“I’ve been hiding this for weeks as I didn’t want you to neglect your exams but now they’re over I can tell you,”
He paused for dramatic effect and Peter heard Flash whisper, “I bet it’s some lame visitor or some shit like that.”
Mr Harrington resumed, “On Monday, we are going on field trip to Stark Industries!” Peters face drained of colour as gasps of shock echoed around the room. Flash looked so excited, like he could faint at any moment. Ned was jumping up and down in seat and even MJ looked smug with glee.
“Peter there NO way you’re skipping the trip this time!” said Ned, “This is a Once. In. A. Lifetime. trip, even if you work there. I bet you haven’t explored the whole tower!” He made sure to emphasise how lucky they were but, unfortunately, that did nothing except Peter feel more ill.
The thought of his whole class visiting his work made him queasy to say the least. Peter was notorious for being a bad luck magnet, especially on field trips, but hey ho, this was Stark Tower, surely nothing bad could happen right? In fact, Peter could think of a million and one things that could go wrong but decided not to think about it in fear of manifesting it into existence.
“Hey Penis!” an unfortunately familiar voice said behind him. “I guess this is your worst nightmare, right? How are you gonna continue you lie now?” His cronies laughed and cheered him on. Peter chose to ignore him.
“Give it break Flash” MJ chimed, “Even if Peter did work there, I’m sure no one pays attention to him anyway.” She winked at Peter as she said this, signifying she was on his side
“Whatever” Flash replied, rolling his eyes.
The bell rang to symbolise the end of the day, triggering a scuffle of chairs being tucked under desks.
Mr Harrington blocked the door to make sure he was heard, “Hang on one minute everyone! I know your eager to go but everyone must take a permission slip and an NDA home to be signed or YOU WILL NOT BE COMING.” There were groans from the class, “I know its annoying but Stark Industries has an extremely strict security policy and doesn’t let anyone enter without them.” He moved away from the door and let the students leave, handing out the forms on exit.
“Dude we have to sign and NDA that is SO cool!” Ned exclaimed
“Ned you’ve already signed one about my ‘internship’” said Peter, rolling his eyes a little as he slung his bag over his shoulder.
“Yeah but that’s fake, it doesn’t count and plus it means we’ll be seeing some really cool science stuff!” Ned continued, taking a form for Mr Harrington as he walked out, passing one back to Peter.
“I guess.”
Ned sighed, “You really don’t wanna go do you?”
“No. I mean it would be so cool if I didn’t work there, but I just don’t want Flash in my space you know? And before you say it, I know we won’t be going to Mr Stark’s lab but it’s the concept of it you know?” They were leaving midtown now and Peter could see Happy parked out front, waiting for him.
“Yeah I get it man but hey, it might be fun! Anyways, I’ll see you Monday!” Ned waved as he said it, walking to the bus.
“Bye!” Peter shouted after him, pulling the door of the Bentley open and hopping in.
“Hey Kid, how was school?” Happy asked over the noise of the sport radio channel coming from the stereo.
“Ugh Happy, you’ll never believe it but on Monday, my whole class is going on a field trip, to Stark Tower.” Peter said the words so fast he was surprised Happy even understood him. There was a moment of silence before Happy burst out laughing.
“Oh, Kid that’s hilarious, Tony is going to love that!”
Peter’s silence responded for him.
“What are you not happy about it? You get to show Ned where you work!” Happy replied.
“Yeah, that’s great but everyone else is going too, including Flash!” Said Peter, exasperated.
“Peter you know it’s going to be fine, stop worrying!”
Peter fell silent for the rest of the journey only breaking it to mumble a quick thanks to Happy on his way out of the car and into the tower. Peter stepped in lift, greeted FRIDAY and asked her to take him up to Tony’s lab. The doors opened to the sound of AC/DC blasting through the speakers while Tony was chipping away at one of his suits. As he walked in FRIDAY cut the music, causing Tony to look up at his intern.
“Well, well, well, look who the cat dragged in. You’re late.” Tony teased, ruffling the kids hair. “How was school?” he asked.
“Awful” replied Peter
“Awful? I’m sure it wasn’t, what happened?” His tone softened.
Peter sighed, "My whole class is coming here on Monday for a field trip." He blurted out.
Tony's face contorted into a look Peter couldn't quite decipher, until he bust into laughter, "Oh Pete that's just so-" he was cut off by the glare coming from Peter's direction. "Ok sorry Kid, I didn't know you were actually upset."
"It's ok I was just had a rough day, and Flash is already giving me shit about my 'internship'. Anyway, it's fine, I just want to forget about it and get to work." He turned and gestured to his work bench, starting towards it.
"Well if you say so, FRIDAY resume, but torn it down for me darling," Tony said.
The pair didn't speak for about an hour while they worked on their respective suits, only interrupting the silence to ask for various tools. Peter was having a hard time trying to link up his new web shooters to his suit, they could shoot different types of web; dependant on what Peter wanted them for, but KAREN kept messing up the types of web fluid for each purpose.
"Hey Mr Stark? You think you can help me? I can't get KAREN to differentiate the types of web fluid." Peter asked.
"Sure Kid, i'll help, but it's a Friday and your Aunt May gave me specific orders to send you home early tonight. So why don't you leave it with me and i'll have it done for you by tomorrow?" Tony said, setting down the repulsor.
"Okay,"
"I'll get Happy to take you home.." He trailed off, "Actually no, I'll drive you, wanna go in the Lambo?"
"Yeah! I've never been in one before!" Peter said ecstatically.
"There's no way that you, Tony Stark's personal intern, has never been in a Lamborghini." He said, laughing.
"Well no because unfortunately for me, I don't have a garage of exotic cars under my penthouse." Peter stated with a smirk.
"True, true, lets go." The pair stepped into the elevator and got FRIDAY to fast track them down to Tony's private garage. The elevator doors opened to reveal an array of supercars, all sparkling in the artificial lights.
"Wow Mr Stark," Peter awed, "This is sick!"
Tony chuckles, "You could say that" He flings the door of the car open and hops, with Peter following suite.
Tony pulls out of the garage way to fast for Peter's liking and swings into the street, revving the engine as he goes.
"Jeez dude, do you want to make even more of a scene?" Peter says, incredulously.
"Sorry Kid, it's in my nature, i'll try keep it on the low until I drop you off." Tony replied
The two continued to chatter about various things like star wars, suits and the field trip which, surprisingly, left Peter feeling much better after promises from Tony that he wouldn't interfere, even though Peter knew he still would. As the Lambo pulled up to the Parker's apartment, Peter said his goodbyes and headed into the building, hearing the squeak of Tony's tires pulling away behind him. The button of the elevator creaked as Peter pressed it, causing the only elevator to squeak down to the lobby. Peter got in, pressed for his floor and waited to go up. It was not nearly as flashy as the one in the tower, but then again, only one was owned by a billionaire. When the doors rattled open, Peter made his way to his humble apartment where he was greeted by his Aunt May, sat on the couch watching a movie.
"Hey Hun, your just in time for casserole! I got off early today and I thought I'd treat you, I also heard that you have something for me to sign?" his Aunt said with a smirk.
"Mr Stark told you about the field trip" He took a bowl of chicken casserole from his Aunt and slumped into the couch "Did he also tell you how we came to an agreement that I'll go but only if he doesn't show up, even though I know he will?" Peter said.
"He only told me you might need convincing but if that's the case, were good to go then!" His Aunt smiled as Peter groaned
"I guess"
"Let's watch a movie to take your mind off it, Star Wars?" May said.
"Only if its Empire strikes back!"
"You must've seen that movie at least a hundred times" May said through laughter.
"It's the best one, what can I say!"
