It was dark.
Darker than a thousand nights.
The darkness stretched out far and wide in every direction.
Time passed like this for a long while. The darkness remained.
Suddenly, there was a bright flash in the center of it all. It became the first light that had ever permeated the darkness. The light consumed the darkness as it stretched far and wide in every direction.
The light slowly faded away into nothingness.
A small speck was all that remained.
The small speck grew bigger, expanding in size and shape.
The speck, which was no longer small nor could one call it a “speck”, began to take the shape of a creature.
This creature could only be described as a bipedal nose.
The nose accounted for the front side of the creature, which was supported by two stubby legs.
On each side of the nose was an eye and pointed ear. Its eyes gazed at everything around, which was not much.
The nose creature wobbled its legs and took its first step. As it pushed out its leg and landed in the pool of darkness that was the world, ripples of light were cast out. Each step brought forth new ripples of light. The light slowly faded away as it stepped further and further away.
Soon, however, the dark pool was full of cascading ripples. As the ripples bounced off one another they became waves.
These waves clashed on each other with vigor, each clash bringing about a bright flash of light.
In each flash of light a small round glowing speck formed with clouds around it.
The nose creature, seemingly oblivious to these events, continued on its walk through the pool.
It went on like this for an innumerable amount of time until the dark pool was full of little lights and clouds. Still the nose creature wobbled on through the pool.
The little lights and clouds moved this way and that in the waves. They spun and twisted in the darkness.
The nose creature turned back at one point and saw what it had done.
It selected one of the tiny specks of light and stared down into it with unblinking eyes.
When it gazed down into that speck of light, it was raptured by what it saw.
The light seemed to gather around the nose creature until it was completely surrounded.
The endless darkness in the pool fell away in an instant and became a shower of colors.
Blues, greens, red, oranges, pinks, yellows, purples, every shade imaginable rained down around the nose creature.
The colors fell into the waves and became one with them. As they did, the waves calmed and became still.
The pool of darkness had transformed into one of many colors.
The nose creature, still gazing into the small speck of light and cloud, sat down.
Where it sat created a giant ripple in the pool. This ripple became a current that ran forth from where the nose creature sat.
The currents went far and wide without bound, just as the darkness had done.
The small specks of light and cloud that the waves had made were carried with it into the beyond.
Soon the only one that remained in its place was the one the nose creature sat looking into.
The nose creature blinked.
A single tear escaped each eye of the nose creature. It ran down the sides of the nose and onto its stubby legs.
The creature blinked again, this time leaning so far over the small speck of light and cloud that its nose nearly touched it.
A single tear once again escaped each eye, this time falling into the light.
The light became brighter than ever and seemed to swallow everything in a blinding flash.
This flash absorbed everything around it and ate up all the swimming colors in the pool until all that remained was the light.
The nose creature leaned back, seemingly satisfied with what had occurred.
And thus, Berserk was born.
