Work Text:
Boxten messed with one of his pens, flipping it between his fingers. He sighed and his eyes flickered. He was so bored--He had no idea what to do.
Suddenly, an idea came to his head. Maybe he could invite Poppy over! She was a good friend to him, and always listened. He picked up his phone and texted Poppy, "Hi Poppy! Are you able to hang out?"
He put his phone down and took out a piece of paper while he waited for her to reply. He might as well do something with the pen that he had. For the next 30 minutes, Boxten drew. First, Boxten lightly sketched, not really knowing what he was doing--He didn't consider himself an 'artist'. He continued to add more and more, and then decided to turn it into a drawing of a horse. He decided to try it from memory, and it... well, didn't really come out that well. Boxten groaned, crumpled up the paper, and threw it into the trash. He picked up a new piece and tried to draw a dog this time, when he heard a 'Ding!' from his phone. Finally!
The text from Poppy read: "Sure!". He was really excited to see that. Most of the time, Poppy was busy with other stuff. He hoped that she could stay for long, since all of his other friends were also busy. He continued his dog drawing, which was going a bit better than his horse one, as he waited for her to arrive. He didn't get to work on it for long, because he heard a knock on his door.
Boxten heard his bedroom door creak open, and was delighted to see it was Poppy. "Oh, hey!" Boxten greeted her. "So, how long can you stay for?"
"Well, pretty much all night! I don't have anything to do today." Poppy replied. "I did get a lot of stuff done today, though!"
"Oh, really? Like what?" Boxten often asked lots of questions to keep the conversation flowing. He was trying to work on the habit, since he could tell it was starting to annoy the toons he talked to...
"Well, I helped Scraps with one of her drawings, I babysat Pebble for an hour since Dandy needed to do something, I also did..." Poppy continued to list off the insane amount of things that she'd done during the day. Boxten wasn't exactly surprised that she had a lot to do, since she volunteered to do a lot of stuff, but sort of wish that he also had things to do instead of just sitting around his boring room all day.
Boxten and Poppy continued talking for the rest of the night, and Boxten quite enjoyed it.
Finally, once it was around 11:13pm, Poppy realized she had to go.
"This was nice, Boxten, but I also have lots of things to do tomorrow! I'd love to do this again. Cya later!" Poppy dashed out the door, but Boxten managed to sneak in an "Oh--Bye!" before she left.
And now he was all alone in his bedroom. He sighed. He had enjoyed having the social interaction, but at the end of the day, the pang of being alone practically all the time hit him. Hard.
Oh well.
He hastily went to bed, not wanting to dwell on the feeling for that long. Luckily for Boxten, he managed to fall asleep rather quickly.
