Chapter Text
Sami was on a bus, going to the middle of nowhere.
His parents sent him to spend the night (and most of the next day) at a random daycare in the middle of a forest. He could still see the city in the distance as the yellow bus went past trees, trees, and more trees.
There were other children on the bus as well, but no one was talking to each other. Sami guessed that they were just as tired and reluctant as he was, being sent because their parents were on a date, or something else. None of his business anyway.
Now that he thought about it, why was it called a daycare if children were allowed to spend the night?
It was night time when the bus came to a stop at a big, baby blue house. The house was surrounded by a wooden fence, and a cobblestone path led to the door. A welcoming light shone out of the windows, but one of the lights was flickering.
The house was surrounded by nothing but forests and hills. Sami wasn’t sure why they would put a daycare here, and he was excited to leave tomorrow evening.
The doors opened. One by one, the children stepped off the bus, each carrying a backpack or small suitcase. He realized many of the kids were probably staying more than one night. Including Sami, there were six children arriving at that daycare.
The bright red door creaked open, and a woman stepped out.
The woman had long black hair and was wearing a dark blue cardigan with a black-and-white striped shirt and blue ripped jeans. She had a smile that almost looked too big to be real.
The woman smiled. “Hello! My name is Lilly!” she said cheerfully.
The kids muttered their hellos.
“I will be looking after you all for a while! Now, let me make sure I’ve got everyone.”
Lilly pointed to each child as she said a number. “1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6… Yep! Come on, let’s go inside!”
The children walked inside, Sami lagging behind. It’s not going to be that bad, he told himself.
How very wrong he was.
