Work Text:
Dana had a headache. Now that didn’t say much, considering she almost always had a headache working the terrible (rewarding) job she did with a bunch of exhausting doctors that all thought they were the metaphorical shit, but today she had a notably worse headache. Even without the power outage, and the harsh reminder of how incompetent the police were, Dana could sense a few new issues fast approaching her.
Doctors, and patients, and volunteer runners made their way past her at speeds she might have considered fast before taking on her charge nurse job, but that she now considered much too slow. People were dying all around, and she still saw one of the residents stop and steal a sandwich from the food cart. Goddamn. Somewhere down one of the corridors, someone was blasting a cover of a Demi Lovato song. The sounds she had gotten used to before, beeping, clicking, typing, had been replaced tenfold with stressed chatter.
Through the doors to the waiting room, she saw two blurry figures pushing past a crowd of people. She inhaled a single preparatory breath before they slammed their way inside. The two men made their way to the center of the floor, blocking foot traffic.
Dana stood up.
“I’m Sam Winchester,” one said.
“I’m Dean Winchester,” the other said.
“And we’re here to stop Doctor Robby from going on his sabbatical,” they both said in unison.
“What is this?” Dana said.
The chatter, which had been dying down already in favor of gawking at the two new faces, stopped all at once when Dana spoke.
The one on the right, Sam, or something, turned to her. “Where’s Doctor Robby?”
“Why the hell should I tell you?” Dana said. “If you’re not dead or dying, then get out of my ER.”
Every single person in the room held their breath. From behind, Dana heard the clatter as Langdon dropped his pen. Javadi’s mouth hung open in that signature way of hers. Santos’ eyebrows were almost up to her hairline. Even previously wailing patients were suddenly quiet
Dean piped up, and said again, “We need to stop Doctor Robby from going on his sabbatical.”
One of the new med students, Joy, her name was, raised a hand. “Um, why?” She asked.
“Because-“ Dean began, and the doors burst open behind him.
At first, Dana didn’t see anyone. She almost thought a gust of wind had somehow caught the handle. Then, she looked down.
Three chipmunks stood up on the hospital tile, donned in green, blue, and red hoodies respectively. “Where’s Doctor Robby?” One said in an impossibly squeaky voice.
Dana couldn’t even get out a ‘What the fuck, am I on drugs?’ Before the door, once again, slammed open, sending the three chipmunks skidding forward across the floor.
A group of people dressed like the Avengers piled into the hospital room. Before their leader, a man holding a Captain America shield, could say a word, Dana cut in.
“Oh, absolutely not. Like I told them,” she gestured to the brothers, “you all need to leave unless you’re about to fall over from an injury.”
Javadi finally picked up her jaw and spoke. “Okay, what is going on?”
“We’re here for Doctor Robby,” the three groups said in unison.
The doors slammed open again. On a side note, Dana needed to get some oil on those hinges. They were squeaking like mini fire alarms. A group of about fifteen girls squeezed their way in.
“We’re the Barden Bellas, and-“
The door slammed open AGAIN. A group of… Dana rubbed her eyes… giant turtles pushed through the Barden Bellas to proclaim their entrance, before the doors swung open AGAIN, this time with no hand pushing them, and a conglomerate of teenagers looking like they had just stepped out of the eighties stumbled inside.
Dana, a thread away from just leaping over the counter, looked at all of the newcomers.
“Let me guess, you’re-“
“Here to see Doctor Robby,” they all said at the same time, and Jesus, that was getting creepy.
Langdon finally cut in, waving his hands in front of him. “No, you can all go wait in the lobby like normal people. Chipmunks. Big turtle things.”
“Actually, they look to be mutant turtles, probably in their teenage years,” another one of the new students, Ogilvie, said.
“It doesn’t matter!” Dana groaned. “You all need to leave, or I’m calling the police.”
She would have made good on her promise, really. But then the apparent dam of people wanting to see Robby broke.
Bodies poured through the doors. Dana’s eyes darted frantically, and she still couldn’t make everyone out. She saw a group of power ranger looking men, some kids in wizard robes, a girl with pigtails and a red spotted suit, a cartoon mouse, a girl in a pink frilly dress speaking Japanese, a very large family, a very yellow family, the Kratt brothers, a lizard talking about Geico, about thirty little Lego figurines, a boy in a red hat with a yellow mouse on his shoulder, Leon Kennedy, and more, and more, and more, all talking over each other about Robby, and-
“STOP FIGHTING!!!” A high pitched voice yelled over the din. A shriveled little gray woman stepped out. “My name is Y/N, and I’m looking for Doctor Robby.”
The room stared at her for a few seconds.
Then, they returned to their arguments.
Dana put her head in her hands. Maybe she had jinxed the hospital, what with wishing all of the doctors would move a little faster earlier. Suddenly, everyone was stuck in place. Mostly from shock, but it didn’t help that the main room was packed full like a can of sardines. Even Dana could barely move, and she had a counter as a barrier.
From the break room, Dana spotted two figures peeking out. Robby and Whitaker.
“Hey,” Whitaker said, and once again, the room fell silent. This time, however, they stayed silent. Every head swiveled towards him, and a concerning amount of the intruders smiled. “Wow, I didn’t expect you guys to actually come!”
Santos gaped. “Do you know them all?”
“Oh, yeah, they’ve all genuinely owed me a favor since 2016.”
