He was going to stand on that altar in a church that hosted a religion that he didn't even believe in and marry the love of his life. There was still some doubt nestled in there since this entire thing started but he tried to shake it off as he looked in the mirror. He fixed his boutonniere, a Queen of The Night nestled gently in the pocket of his black tux.
Robby took a deep breath and turned to Dennis, who was laying on his back on their bed. His boutonniere was a black orchid, the contrast was a nice touch.
“You ready?” he asked and Dennis smiled at him.
“Yes.” he got up and walked over to his soon-to-be husband.
“Well, let’s go then.” They walked out of their room, heading towards their car.
Robby opened the passenger side door for his fiancé and, when he got in, shut it. He got in the driver’s seat and they drove to the venue.
It wasn't anything special, no fancy venue or anything like that, they had decided to get married in the PTMC’s hospital church. They had a whole talk about religion a few times, and came to the conclusion that Robby would keep his and Whitaker would barely hold onto his. It was a compromise, Dennis barely believed in anything anymore ever since he left his parents, barely stepped foot in a church without fear. But this church was barely a church at all, so he was fine with it. That’s all that mattered to Robby. And hell, Robby was bordering on the non-practicing side of Judaism, had not been to a synagogue or even prayed since he lost his mentor, he’d mark that as the day he lost his faith in a higher power but he still believed deep down. It was etched into his inner self, deep deep down. Dennis helped unlock that part of him, piece by piece. So they compromised on the church because it’s barely an actual church.
They pulled into the parking garage, Robby had one hand on the wheel and the other was gripping Dennis’ hand with nervous energy.
They would be surrounded by their friends and have an amazing time but Dennis still squeezed Robby’s hand in reassurement .
They parked and got out of the car, checking that they got the cake and utensils, plates and everything like that. Once everything was checked they went through the exit door into a hallway that had an elevator. They pressed floor three and waited for the elevator to react.
When they got up to the floor, they dropped the cake off at the nurses’ station along with the utensils and plates. Then they quietly made their way to the church. Dennis gets pulled away by Trinity half way through the walk to ‘fix’ his tux.
Robby walked through the chapel doors, everyone fussing about seats and other non intelligible things as he waltzed down the aisle. He found Dana, who was helping with organizing seating.
“Dana” he said and he could tell she had tears in her eyes already. Her white bridesmaid dress was stunning on her.
“Robby, c’mere.” She brought him into a hug and he smiled.
“Thank you for helping out with seating but I think you need to round up all of our maids and groom man.” he laughed and Dana laughed with him, patting him on the shoulder.
“Okay, I'll do that, you just prepare yourself.” She went off to gather everyone.
He took out a piece of paper from the pocket on the inside of his tux. He unfolded it looking over the words written on it as he waited on the altar.

“Trinity, I think my tux is completely fine.” Dennis said as he was dragged into one of the public bathrooms.
“Okay, so maybe that was just an excuse, I am not ready.” She wrung her hands together, nervous energy spilling off of her in waves.
“It’s okay Trin. you’re gonna do amazing.” he took her hands in his and looked at her making sure she could hear what he was saying.
She took a deep breath and he let go of her hands.
“Okay, yeah, I think that too.” she nodded her head and Dennis laughed.
“Okay, do you think Dana and Robby got the crowd under control or should we wait a couple more seconds?” he asked and Trinity shrugged.
“Idk but maybe you should make sure you’re ready, I know you and public speaking don't exactly get along.” She laughed and Dennis had the urge to hit her.
“Har har har, Trin, i know my vows by heart.” he said as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a piece of wrinkled paper, mysterious coffee-like stains covered the page and Trinity looked at it with a look of disgust as he unfolded it.
“That thing is so old, what the hell.” she exclaimed.
“I told you I wrote them the first night we slept together, right? Well you and I went to ihop to debrief that morning after. That coffee stain is from that morning.” he said close to tears.
Unexpectedly, Trinity rushed Dennis, wrapping him up in the tightest hug he’d ever experienced.
“I’m gonna miss you at the apartment.” she said letting go.
“No you wont, you’ll be living with Garcia.” he laughed and it came out as a butchered wet sob.
“Yeah, true.” She laughed with him.

The doors to the chapel swung open, Trinity wrapped her arm in his, leading him down the aisle.
Her black and white dress swished in the silence of the chapel and then the piano in the corner started.
The wedding march, simple, something that was pulled from thin air at the very last minute. Princess was seated, in her very best black and white outfit, at the piano.
She had told them that she had played piano in high school and picked it back up while she was living on campus during her freshman year of college. They didn't look a gift horse in the mouth.
And then suddenly Whitaker was standing at the foot of the altar, staring at the man he was head over orthopedic shoes in love with. It was everything he wanted and more. Which is why he didn't hesitate to cross the threshold and stand in front of him.
They stared at each other and for the first time since that morning their shared anxiety dissipated and only the love they had for each other remained. Like a thick fog had finally cleared and a beautiful sky was staring down at them.
Trinity cleared her throat and Princess’ playing stopped and everyone that was stirring quieted. The ceremony was about to begin.
“We all got work off today to celebrate the union of two of our dear friends. Some of us would even say they were the embodiment of a living headache but I promised to not tease them so I'll cut to the important part.” she laughed, already choked up on tears, some of the audience laughed with her.
“Do both parties have the rings?” she asked and Mohan patted her dress revealing a silver band, Jack did the same thing from behind Robby. They weren't intricate or ornate, they were just right. Something they knew they would never lose and something that wasn't too expensive.
Samira bumped shoulders with Jack as they handed off the rings to each of them. She smirked as they walked back to their spots.
Trinity took a deep breath. “Okay, without further ado, let’s do this.”
“I invite you two to recite your vows, starting with Whitaker.”
“Okay,” he pulled out his piece of paper, unfolding it nicely.
He took a deep breath and looked up at Robby. “From the night we hooked up I knew we were destined to be standing on this altar together. That’s why the morning after I drafted these on the back of an old medical terminology vocab paper, and everyday since I've written and rewritten these vows so many times it’s like they’ve been seared into my memory.” he took another deep breath.
“Robby I have loved you for the loving, cynical yet determined, handsome man you’ve always been and I would be lying if I said that the flaws you’ve tried to hide from me aren't the reason I was standing here right now, because i love every single one of them, even when they’re seen as less desirable. I’m making a promise to you that even when the world gets dark, and you start to feel it cave in on you, I will be that light in the darkness to help guide you out of it.” he finished, his voice course like he was holding back a waterfall of tears.
Robby was already in shambles, the tears falling freely from his eyes, like they were the only people in the room.
“Okay now, Robby, I invite you to share what you’ve written.” Trinity spoke, tears streaming down her face as well.
He unfolded the piece of paper, thought for a second, and then calmly refolded it and placed it back inside his tux.
“Uh, well, Dennis, I knew that I would fall for you when you stayed with me in the makeshift morgue the day of the pitt fest shooting. From then on my mind was wrapped around you and only you, anytime you were in a room my focus was only on you, which led to a few mistakes and regrets but I have not regretted anything with you ever. I want to share my life with you, and then when we die I want to share the after-life with you. Even when you get tired of me, even when we have fights, and even when we eventually kill each other, even then I would want to be with you. Dennis, you are my light and the person I trust the most. Thank you for never turning your back on me, even when I've been at my worst. “ The words just flowed out of him, he was speaking from the heart afterall.
All Dennis wanted to do was kiss Robby, tears streamed down their faces like rivers and Trinity struggled to continue the ceremony.
“Uh, uhm well without any hesitation i think you guys can now put the rings on.” all formality out the window, Dennis could tell she was ramping up to close out the ceremony. Either a bit tired of their sappiness or her own feelings overwhelming her he had no idea.
“Okay,” he said softly he grabbed the ring that was pressed so tightly in his palm that it had left an impression
“Repeat after me,”
“Michael Rabinovitch, with this ring i wed thee with.”
Dennis swallowed and took Robby’s hand in his.
“Michael Rabinovitch, with this ring i wed thee with.” he slipped the simple band onto Robby’s ring finger and smiled. His part was done.
“Okay now you Robby. Repeat after me.” he nodded.
“Dennis Whitaker, with this ring I wed thee with.”
He took the ring from his pocket, grabbed Whitaker’s hand and took a deep breath.
“Dennis Whitaker, with this ring I wed thee with.” he slipped the ring onto Whitaker’s ring finger and let go. His smile as wide as Dennis’
The crowd was as quiet as a church mouse, which was fitting for the setting.
“Alright, then, by the power vested in me and by the universal life church, I pronounce you husbands!” she exclaimed with a laugh.
The crowd erupted into cheers and the bridesmaids and groomsmen behind the grooms dumped black and white petals over their heads as they kissed.
They walked down the aisle together, hand in hand, Trinity following behind. People in the pews threw beads and petals and even rice at them as they walked towards the doors.
They made their way to their car, Trinity promised to pick up the cake and drive it to Lucky’s while they changed.
After they had changed into more comfortable clothing, they made their way to Lucky’s. The bar that started their romantic journey. They had decided to book it for their reception, since it was meaningful to all of their friends and a testament to their relationship.
They had a caterer waiting at the bar, enough food to feed five armies, and they had a deal with the owner to have a limited open bar.
They walked into the bar as husbands, united as one forever and always.
