Work Text:

The lights were off. The new blackout curtains were drawn. The fan was on, at its highest speed. Steve had an ice pack that he alternated between his forehead and the back of his neck. He had a glass of water next to him that he'd barely touched because he was just that nauseated. And Robin was still fretting, wringing her hands and pacing.

"I'm sorry I ruined girls' night," Steve murmured. "You don't have to stay over. I'll be okay once I can fall asleep."

"Are you sure there isn't anything else you need? Do you need something to eat? Or a coke? Do you need more pillows?"

Steve huffed, exhaling a slight laugh through his nose. "Not unless you're going to smother me with one."

"That's not funny!" Robin said, a little too loud. Steve didn't wince, but Robin still apologized right away. "I'm not going to smother you!" she said, much quieter.

"Then I'm okay. Really," Steve said, eyes closed, his head throbbing so bad he could feel it in his jaw. "You don't have to stick around."

"I wish there was something else I could do," Robin said. And after a moment, Steve felt a gentle weight on the bed beside him. Her hand reached out, touching his bangs, brushing her hand over his forehead. He peeked an eye open at her.

"I just need to sleep it off," he said, half in love and half frustrated, because Robin just sort of naturally got that type of response from him. He really loved her, but there was no way he was going to sleep with her hovering.

She hesitated for a second, and then she leaned in. Her pursed lips found his temple and she pressed a long, hard kiss there. There was a smacking sound as she pulled back. Steve's eyes were fully open. She'd never kissed him before. They were close since Starcourt, but it wasn't like they kissed.

"I was trying to suck the headache out," she said. "Turn your head, I'll do the other side."

And Steve, knowing it would do nothing to help, knowing that all he needed was to lie in a cool, dark room and sleep, obediently turned his head. Robin pressed another firm kiss to his other temple, even longer this time. She sat back and looked at him.

"I'm going to go downstairs now and watch your TV," she told him.

"Okay," he said, still reeling.

"Come get me if you need me."

"Okay," he said again.

She finally stood, and she checked his pillows one last time, and the fan, and the curtains, and even the light. "You'll come get me?" she asked.

"Yeah," Steve said. "I promise." Robin nodded and went to the door. "Thank you," Steve said, the words a little garbled in their rush to come out. She paused for a second, smiled, and went downstairs.
