Work Text:
Joel takes in a slow, deep breath, the warm lights on the sage, shining on them, making him thankful for his shorts-leave black tee-shirt and ripped jeans.
He stretches for one last toe before taking his drumsticks out of his back pocket where he had put them.
He looks up at the small stage of the little music hall, seeing a decent sized crowd, gather to hear them play a few songs (2-3), and then the next band do the same, a few more doing it for the rest of the night, two having preceded them.
The brunet temporarily locks eyes with Jimmy, grinning at the man.
Jimmy clears his throat, speaking into the mic, “Good evening Lifer Musical Hall!” he says, a wide grin on his face as he adjusts his guitar, “who’s ready for some good Rock with the Half-American Rejects!?”
The crowd cheers and Jimmy strums his guitar, starting to play ‘Band the Doldrums’.
Joel starts to play the drums with him, causing the crowd to cheer even more as they recognize the song and who it’s originally by.
Jimmy's almost angelic voice starts to fill the room as he starts to sing and Joel’s heart pounds loudly in his chest, “I wrote a goodbye note in lipstick on your arm, when you passed out. I couldn't bring myself to call, except to call it quits.”
Joel feels pride in his chest, watching his boyfriend in his element, on stage, being adored by the crowd.
Joel feels lost in the movement of his body, playing the instrument he’s played for years, completely enamored with Jimmy as the taller man sings.
“Best friends, ex-friends 'til the end, better off as lovers and not the other way around.”
Joel finds his eyes watching Jimmy move around, the sound of his guitar filling the space, accompanying Skizz’s bass and Bigb’s keyboard.
They play through the song, ending it, catching quick breaths as the crowd cheers for them, before starting the next song.
Once that one’s also down, Skizz yells into his mic, “Goodnight, and thank you for coming here and listening to us perform for you all!”
The crowd cheers more as they leave the stage, switching out with the next band.
Skizz and Jimmy set down their interments, and Joel his sticks before all four band members are embraced in a group hug from Skizz.
“That was amazing guys!” Skizz says, squeezing his friend tightly.
Joel feels his cheeks warm as Skizz’s hug presses his face into Jimmy’s chest, a smile on his face.
Gods, he loves his band.
After they are released from the hug, They pack up their stuff, heading to Joel’s apartment for some drinks to celebrate their good performance.
The four of them have a few drinks, laughing and enjoying each other's presences, a celebratory feeling hanging in the air.
As the night grows older, they tire.
Skizz gets his roommate/boyfriend to come over and pick him and Bigb up because they can't drive themselves, leaving Joel alone with his own boyfriend.
Jimmy turns to face Joel as the brunet's apartment door closes, "You did so well tonight." he says, grinning his stupid grin Joel has fallen in love with over and over again.
He sits up a little straighter, leaning in closer to Jimmy, "You to." he says, "Babe, your voice is so angelic, especially when you sing."
Jimmy's cheeks flush, and if someone were to ask, it's from the alcohol they've had, but they both know how easily Jimmy blushes from a few compliments.
Joel puts his hand on Jimmy's chest, leaning in, pressing his lips to his partner's in a slow, slightly messy kiss.
Jimmy leans into just the same, melting at the contact.
The two boys sit there, leaning against each other, the only thing keeping the other up, lips moving in familiar dance as they enjoy the taste of the other on their tongue.
When they part, their heavy breaths fill the air in the room.
their foreheads touch as they stare into the brown eyes in front of them, both panting for air, a look of love and adoration in both their eyes.
"Gods..." Joel breathes out, a thousand words of love on the tip of his tongue, "You're some beautiful." he decides on, "I love you so much it hurts."
Jimmy pushes him down onto the couch, pressing him into the cushions as much as he presses his lips to Joel's kissing his boyfriend hungrily.
Joel's hands find themselves on Jimmy's back, pushing the taller man down so he's laying on top of Joel, chest to chest.
the blond pulls away from the kiss, peppering Joel's cheeks and face with little soft kisses, muttering, "I love you so much." over and over again, throwing in some compliments in there too.
Joel giggles like a school girl, "Jimmy!" he says, laughing.
The taller man stops, pressing a final kiss to Joel's lips, saying, "I love you so much, Joel ."
Joel smiles even more, "I love you too, Jimmy."
