Summary
These were the days of summer, when everything felt both still and charged, like the flat air that comes right before a storm. Nothing to do, all day, and the freedom felt suffocating, as if there was something Svetlana could be doing, should be doing. It felt like her entire life was on hold, until Rose came over.
The struggle between the placid and the electric that occupied that summer extended to Svetlana’s feelings for Rose. With the other woman, there was the safety and reassurance of long-held affection, but also, the possibility of something else, something new. It was on this knife’s edge that Svetlana teetered, hopelessly.
