Fangs & Fatherhood

Summary:

Hanzo knew it'd be a struggle to raise two toddlers on his own. What he didn't know, however, was that one would start gnawing on his arm.

Notes:

Something that'll probably be seen throughout this fic is Hanzo having split custody with his ex-wife over Yamato! In chapters where he isn't present, that's the reason why.

Chapter Text

You know… When Hanzo adopted his daughter, he prepared for a lot of things, but never for her to start biting his forearm and then snarl whenever he tried to pry her off. Mikako, as he’d named her, was usually very sweet and well-behaved, so the sudden shift to her digging her teeth into his skin was… jarring, to say the least.

“Ow. Ow. Ow.” He repeated as he tried everything he could to get her off. No matter what, though, she stayed in place like a parasite and continued to gnaw at his arm.

… No, gnawing wasn’t the right word. She was chewing, certainly, but it seemed to be out of habit. Rather, she was drinking. Her hands were gripping his arm tightly, her chewed-on nails digging into his skin, and she continued to look determined to eat.

“Mikako.” He placed his hand on her head and gave her a few head-pats before trying to pull his arm away again. “Surely you’re full by now? I’m getting kind of tired…”

That last part wasn’t a lie, but the exhaustion wasn’t from having his blood drained– work had worn him down, and so his energy was highly limited and it was quickly being stolen. It’d stopped hurting, but it was still tiring nonetheless, and Hanzo really wanted to go to sleep soon.

Luckily, his daughter seemed to have heard him: Mikako carefully dislodged her fangs and stared up at him with a concerned expression. She should’ve looked terrifying, with her big black eyes and the blood around her mouth, but Hanzo could never be afraid of his own child.

“Papa?” She chirped out as she pushed his arm away completely. She was so, so, young, unaware of the concepts of Injury, hurt, and of the fact that she’d wounded her father. “Papa? Papa Okay?”

Hanzo couldn’t be honest, though. He didn’t dare risk his daughter crying upon the realization of what hurt was, and that she’d hurt her father, so he lied. “Yeah, yeah… Papa’s okay, Mikako. Just tired… Why don’t we get you ready for bed?”
