Chapter Text
Omega was very familiar with accidents. Try as she might, little mistakes were a constant in the girl's life. When she worked with Nala Se she would always find a way to mess something up. The trend seemed to stay when she ran away with the Bad Batch. Hunter was always scolding her for running off or putting herself and others in danger. Omega understood that Hunter only did it because he cared, plus he got onto everyone else for the same things, but it still felt mean sometimes. Omega never meant to make a mistake, they just happened sometimes.
Yesterday Hunter had yelled at Omega for leaving the Sabac cards out on the floor of the Marauder causing him to fall. Omega had hidden in her room for the rest of the day, since they were traveling through hyperspace there wasn’t really much space for anything else. Echo had tried to talk to her and explain that Hunter was just high strung because they’d been cooped up in the ship for three days. Omega understood but she was still mad at Hunter for getting mad at her for something so small and yelling while Fox was sitting on the bunk right next to them
As a rule Omega tried to protect Fox from his triggers. Fox often assured her that he was fine with people yelling but she saw him tense every time. Hunter also tried to be considerate. Everyone in the batch had certain actions or topics that were best avoided and everyone else generally respected that. Accidents happened though and if Hunter got to be mad at Omega for little stuff then Omega had the same right.
The mood on the Marauder had brightened considerably once they had landed on a planet to get supplies and everyone wasn’t cramped in the small space. Omega was still giving Hunter the cold shoulder but she was friendly with the rest of her brothers.
Currently Omega was sitting in the grass of the clearing the ship was parked in. She, Echo, Wrecker, and Tech were playing a new version of Sabac that Echo had remembered from his time with the 501st. Hunter was on the ship taking inventory, Omega felt a bit guilty for excluding him from the game but she was still a little mad at him. They had offered to let Fox join them when he wandered off the ship but he’d declined. Now he was sitting in the shade of the ship and meditating, he had a few small rocks floating above his hands.
Omega kept getting distracted by Fox, causing her to lose most of the hands that were played. The casual use of an amazing power like the force was eye catching but the main thing that kept dragging Omega’s attention to the other clone was the slight crease to his brow. While that crease was fairly normal for Fox, he was always worrying about something, it wasn’t what he normally looked like when he was meditating. Omega set her cards down and wandered over to get a better look at Fox.
Once she was closer she noticed that in addition to the concerning expression Fox was also sitting more stiffly than he normally did when he meditated. From everything Omega knew about the practice she thought it was supposed to be relaxing but it seemed like Fox was forcing himself to meditate.
“Are you okay, Fox?” Omega asked after a minute of staring.
“I’m fine.” Fox ground out, his brow furrowed further.
“Oh,” Omega rocked back on her feet awkwardly for a moment. “You just seem kind of upset.”
“I said I’m fine!” Fox snapped. He took a quick deep breath through his teeth before continuing. “Just leave me alone, Omega.”
“You can talk to me or one of the others if you need to.”
“Walk away.” The words seemed almost growled at Omega.
“I’m just trying to help.”
“Go. Away.”
“You just look upset.”
“Leave.” Fox finally opened his eyes and leveled Omega with a deep glare.
“At least come sit with us.”
“Omega.” Fox said her name in the same warning tone that Hunter would use when he got tired of her arguing with him about her safety.
“Why do you always push me away when you feel bad?!” Omega couldn’t help but shout at Fox. Her brother was acting like a jerk to her. She also moved closer to Fox as she spoke. “Maybe talking it out would actually help!”
Instead of another clipped response or harsh look Omega was surprised when Fox roughly pushed her away. Caught off guard Omega fell to the grass as Fox sprung to his feet.
“Get the kirff away from me Omega!” Fox snarled and clenched his fists at his side. “What part of ‘leave me alone’ is too hard for you to understand?! You are so annoying, duraan aaray(annoying pain, basically)!”
Omega could only look up at her brother as he shouted at her. She could feel tears welling in her eyes and her bottom lip quivered. She had never felt scared of any of her brothers, except for that incident with Wrecker’s chip, but now fear was all she really could feel. Fox moved to step closer to her and assumedly continue his insults but Wrecker came from the side and tackled the Jedi to the ground.
“Get off of me you shu’shuk(big screw-up)!” Fox shouted as he squirmed in Wreckers pin. “Bic ni skana’din! Ni or’parguur gar di’kut! (This is pissing me off/I hate this! I hate you, idiot!)”
“Nope.” Wrecker smiled down at Fox. “I’m not moving until you’re calmer, Kit.”
Echo came to Omega’s side and helped her into a sitting position.
“Are you okay, Omega?” He asked as he scanned her for injuries.
In response Omega gave a weak nod, her eyes not leaving Fox.
“Do not press too hard, Wrecker. You do not want to break his wrists.” Tech commented as he came to stand next to the entangled pair.
“Hut’uun!(Coward!)” Fox kept fighting Wrecker’s grip but turned his yelling toward Tech. “Gar an hut’uune! Gar nakar’mir meg ni akaanir! Anay tuur! (You’re all cowards! You don’t know what I deal with! Everyday!)”
“What the kirff is going on out here?!” Hunter questioned as he finally walked out of the ship. “I can’t leave you all alone for five minutes?!”
“Fox is having a bad day.” Echo explains as he leaves Omega’s side to talk to Hunter.
“I know. Son of a Hutt started arguing with me while I was doing inventory. I didn’t even say anything to him.”
“He came out here to meditate and became aggressive when Omega attempted to engage him in conversation.” Tech offered. “We only noticed his mood once he had pushed her to the ground and started berating her.”
“He did what?!” Hunter sounded pissed. He turned to Fox who had stopped in his insults for a moment to focus on getting Wrecker off. “You’d better have a good explanation, Fox.”
“Ni rejorhaa’ir gar ni jurkad Fives jor’bic jurkadir traat’aliit! Ne narir arasuumir gaanader! (I told you I attacked Fives because he threatened my men! Don’t act like you wouldn’t have made the same choice!)” Fox snapped back. “Slana’pir, Cody! Te’habirobe Wolffe ni! (Fuck off, Cody! Get Wolffe off me!)”
“What the kark is he saying?” Hunter turned toward Echo and Tech.
“I think he’s having a flashback.” Echo replied. “The names he mentioned are his batchmates.”
“Why would he be having a flashback of his batchmates?”
“He also mentioned the name of someone called Fives.” Tech supplied. “Although I did not quite make out the rest of the sentence.”
“Wrecker let him go!” Echo commanded as if something had just clicked together for him. “Everyone back up and give him some space to breathe.”
Wrecker was quick to respond to the order and let go of Fox’s wrists. Before he had a chance to move off though Fox lashed out and punched Wrecker in the nose. The larger clone fell back and clutched his face. In the brief second that everyone was stunned Fox slipped out from under Wrecker and ran off into the woods.
“Fox!” Omega sprang to her feet to chase after her brother. Hunter grabbed her before she got too far though. “Let me go, Hunter! We have to follow him!”
“Calm down Omega.” Hunter brushed a hand through her hair in an attempt to soothe her. “Fox needs some time to cool down. He’s not a tubie, he’ll find his way back once he’s ready.”
“You think so?”
“I know so. He used to do this all the time on Kamino.”
Omega was a bit skeptical of the claim but stopped squirming and let Hunter set her down. She walked over to where Tech was checking Wrecker’s nose to see the extent of the damage.
“Ow! That hurts!” Wrecker whined at Tech’s prodding.
“I believe it is broken. Again.” Tech sighed. “Would you like for me to splint it or let it get more crooked?”
“Whatever option means you don’t touch it again!” Wreaker groaned with his hands covering his nose from his brother.
“Fine but do not complain to me when you have problems with your deviated septum.”
“I’m sorry Fox punched you.” Omega said as she hugged Wrecker’s side for comfort. “You were only doing it to protect me.”
“Nah, that's just Kit’s go to move.” Wrecker shrugged as he returned the hug. “Little tooka goes right for the sensitive areas.”
When Omega let go of her brother her eyes caught on something glimmering in the grass. Curious, the girl walked over and picked up the object. It was a gold beaded cord with a few painted sections on it. Omega recognized it as the bracelet that Fox was always wearing. She thought about mentioning it to the group but the four men were engrossed in conversation, something about having a talk with Fox when he got back, so she slipped the jewelry into her pocket.
When she noticed that everyone, mostly Hunter, was paying more attention to each other than to her now an idea popped into her head. Hunter had said that Fox would come back on his own but Omega wasn’t sure about that, he seemed really angry. Slowly Omega edged away from the group until she made it to the tree line that Fox had disappeared into. With one last glance at the Bad Batch to make sure she wasn’t spotted she ran off in the direction she’d seen Fox go in.
Once she was a good distance from the Marauder she started calling for Fox. She was following his trail with the basic tracking skills Hunter had taught her, broken branches and slight indents in the grass. Eventually the trail ended as far as Omega could tell.
“Fox!” She called out again. “Where are you?!”
Silence greeted her words, well that and the wind blowing the leaves. The girl chewed on her lip in worry. She was unsure of what to do now that she had lost the trail and Fox wasn’t responding to her. Omega decided that she would try to call Fox one more time and if he didn’t respond she would go back to the Marauder. She hated to think that Hunter may have been right about Fox coming back on her own but she felt better knowing she’d at least tried to find him.
“Fox, I'm not mad at you!” Omega shouted. “But I understand if you want to be alone! I’ll be back at the ship if you want to play Sabac!”
The girl nodded as she finished and waited to see if Fox would respond. After a moment Omega’s shoulders deflated when she didn’t hear anything. Right as she was about to leave she heard a rustling in the bushes behind her. She turned eagerly, hoping it was Fox. Instead of her brother she came face to face with a nasty looking man. He had a large scar across his right eye and a shaggy beard that covered most of the rest of his face. His outfit was a bit strange but Omega recognized it as a pirate’s uniform.
“Well, well, what have we here?” The man cooed. “What’s a pretty thing like you doing out here on your own?”
“I was just meeting up with my brother.” Omega lied. She hoped that the pirate would leave her alone if he thought there was someone else around. “He’s pretty tough and I don’t think he’d like you talking to me.”
“Funny, I could’ve sworn I heard you calling for someone. Like you were lost or something.”
“We’re playing hide and seek.”
“A bit loud for someone playing a casual game.”
“Well it’s a big forest.”
“Right.”
Right as Omega was about to bolt there was more noise from behind her.
“Morgo what’re you doing?” A gruff voice called out. “You’d better not have lost that Jedi. He’s worth a good deal of credits you know.”
As Omega turned to look at the man approaching from behind her, the one she’d been talking to roughly grabbed her arm.
“Ow!” Omega cried, fighting the hold. “Let me go!”
“He might have given me the slip but I found something just as good.”
“Oh yeah?” The second man snarked as he came out of the brush. He was a lot smaller than the first guy with a more handsome face. He was clean shaven and his face was free of any blemishes. “And what might that be?”
“Isn’t this the girl Kamino is paying top credit for?” Morgo asked but the tone of his voice was triumphant.
“I think you’re right Morgo.” The man agreed after giving Omega a quick once over. “But imagine how much richer we’ll be if you find that Jedi too.”
“Do I have to, Casspis?” Morgo groaned. “He’s so kirffing fast.”
“If you want a fifty percent take you will.” Casspis said as he approached the two. He pulled a pair of wrist binders out of a bag at his side. “I’ll take the girl back to camp. Comm me if you really need help catching that Jedi.”
Omega struggled as Casspis grabbed her away from Morgo. The latter wandered off grumbling under his breath. Despite her attempt to escape Casspis was easily able to bind her hands in front of her.
“You’d better let me go if you know what’s good for you!” Omega threatened.
“Or what?” Casspis rolled his eyes. “You’re not exactly a tough opponent.”
“If you don’t let me go my brothers will find you.”
“Oh no I’m real scared now.”
“You should be. They used to fight in the war.”
“Well if they notice you’re missing before we get off planet I’ll be impressed.” The pirate chuckled as he pulled Omega along with him.
Omega was panicking. She kept up her squirming and yelling in the hopes that someone would notice and help her. Unfortunately she knew no one was around these woods, she’d looked. Her last glimmer of hope was that Fox was nearby and would come save her. She had her doubts though, since the pirates were looking for him. If Fox was smart he’d stay far away from Omega. Eventually her struggling must have gotten too annoying for Casspis to deal with since he pulled his blaster out and stunned her.
