Migraine Mishap

Summary:

Pure Vanilla overworks himself like usual. However, it seems he neglected a part of himself that would make the next day one of the most painful experiences:

Pure Vanilla had chronic migraines.

Luckily, White Lily and Shadow Milk were there to help.

Notes:

This is really really REALLY self indulgent. Projecting my chronic migraines onto my fav lil guy but luckily he has his partners that are totally fine in canon :'D.
(I'll get back to writing my other fic after this, just a small detour to do somethin else for a day)

GO MY PURESHADOWLILY

Work Text:

It was a beautiful day in the Vanilla Kingdom. The sun was out, cream sheep were grazing fields, bluebirds flew by windows chirping gleefully, cookies on the town, basically the perfect day. Anybody would be lucky to get outside and take in the sun.

All would be lucky, except for Pure Vanilla Cookie.

The healer had stayed up all night, finishing meetings, planning future events, filling out paperwork, all of his usual routine. However, like the workaholic he was, he never gave himself a break. Never put down his pen, never looked away from the paper, never got up from that desk.

Even if, yes, these are all destructive and could lead to long lasting problems, there was one offender in the back of his mind that, with out fail, always stuck out.

Well, he should say in the front of his mind. Or, more accurately, his whole mind.

Pure Vanilla had chronic migraines, and it was a pain, to say the least.

Having his eyes so hyper focused on small details, forcing his vision to come into focus even the slightest bit just to write a letter, sitting basically directly in front of his brightest desk light obviously took a toll on his brain.

Sitting for hours in the middle of the night with so many stressors is going to send him into some of the worst days of his life.

Even if he does have a headache always in the background, he can usual handle them. However, when they become uncontrollably painful, he couldn't really do anything at all.

And that is where Pure Vanilla was right now.

The Ancient sat in his bed, all the curtains shut tight and lights off to make it as dark as possible. His knees were to his chest, wings wrapped around himself in a cocoon, obscuring himself from everything.

Everything hurt, he couldn't move without feeling pain shock up his spine and straight to his brain. He felt embarrassed.

He should be sitting at his desk filling out paperwork or in a meeting, but his brain hurt so much, it was making him nauseous.

A small knock rung from his door, making him flinch and stiffen up from the shock of pain the noise gave him. It slowly creeks open.

"My orchid?" It was White Lily Cookie, one of his loves. He wanted to greet her but all he could do was let out a whimper. "Oh, dear..." Her voice instinctively became softer, slowly walking towards the bed.

Pure Vanilla's body twitched slightly with every step that rung from White Lily. He kept his place on the bed, feeling the mattress dip from the weight of her sitting down in front of him. A gentle hand pets his wings.

"My orchid, could you look at me for a moment?" She coaxs. Pure Vanilla whimpers in response. "I know, baby, I know. This is why we don't overwork ourselves, right? Hmm? It's okay, I'm here now."

He slowly opens his wings a crack, looking up at his love to the best of his ability. He was met with a hand coaxing his eyes closed.

"No need to focus on anything, honey, only my voice and my touches. Understood?"

".. Mhmm.." He hums in agreement, letting his eyes closed.

"There we go. Now, can you tell me what hurts?"

"U- Uhmm.. there's no need to wor-"

"Sweetheart, you can't move, of course I am going to worry. Tell me what hurts." She places a hand on his cheek, rubbing small circles with her thumb.

"... My head.. a- and uhmm.. my eyes.. my back, my legs, uhmm.. everything."

"There you go, lovely. It's okay to admit you are in pain. You are very strong and wonderful." She praises, still petting his cheek as she places a kiss on his forehead in an attempt to soothe the pain. Pure Vanilla smiles. "There you are."

"Mm, I love you, my petal."

"I love you too, my orchid." Another kiss was placed.

The two sit in comforting silence for a bit, now lying down comfortably under the blankets. White Lily runs her fingers through Pure Vanilla's wings, preening and smoothing out his feathers. The ex king smiles softly, being careful with his head as he places it on her chest.

This was nice.

"SILLY VANILLY?!! How dare you have snuggle time and not invite your humble jester?! Has anyone taught you manners?"

Oh dear.

Pure Vanilla flinches, curling in on himself at the pounding in his head that once more inflamed. White Lily just gently covers his ears.

Shadow Milk immediately switched his tone when he noticed his partner in pain, as well as the angry look White Lily was giving him. The Beast floats down onto the bed, a clawed hand gently placed on the healer's shoulder.

"Nills, babe, everything alright? Seriously? I didn't mean to send you back into the depths."

It takes a bit for Pure Vanilla to respond but he simply replies with, "Migraine.." Shadow Milk scoffs playfully.

"Why didn't you tell me sooner, you half baked fool?" They wrap their arms around his waist, taking him out of White Lily's arms and up onto their lap. Pure Vanilla sits confused for a moment until he feels a cold hand placed upon his forehead, slightly spilling over his eyes and nose bridge. The healer lets out a sigh of relief. "There you go, Nilly."

The wings that had been tight against his body for hours had finally relaxed, folding back and away, no longer in view. His muscles relax, head leaning forward and pushing into the coolness of his partner's hand. He hears some shuffling, then wieght to the front of his body. White Lily was now lying on top of him, allowing her weight to ground him further.

Pure Vanilla hums, feeling both warm and cool. One arm wraps around Lily's waist while the other reaches to his own, holding onto Shadow Milk's hand that was resting there. He smiles, allowing his partners to comfort him. He could already feel his migraine begin to dwindle.

He feels a kiss placed on the back of his head. "Rest, Nilly, it's been a stressful morning." The Beast says simply, rubbing her thumb on his forehead. She takes a deep breath, rolling her eyes. "Just know.. I loooveee you.. blegh."

Pure Vanilla giggles. "Well, I looooveee you too, Shadow Milk." He removes the hand that was on the other's around his waist, moving it up to grab the one on his head, lowering it slightly to kiss it's palm. He could hear a small yelp of embarrassment come from behind, which just made him giggle once more. He could also hear his lily's soft chuckles at the noise.

"I- I command you two to stop your teases!" White Lily just rises from her position, leaning over Pure Vanilla's shoulder to kiss the Beast on the cheek. It growls in response, obviously flustered.

"Now, now-!" Pure Vanilla snickers, trying to calm his laughing. He clears his throat. "No more rough housing for now. Why don't we get some proper rest, huh? I still need to sleep this migraine off."

Shadow Milk clears his throat as well, flustered. "Y- Yeah. Sleepy time!" He snaps his fingers, the three now out of their day clothes and into matching pairs of pajamas so graciously made by the Beast himself. All had silky textures with colors that matched them. White Lily with green, Pure Vanilla in yellow, and Shadow Milk rocking blue. "Now, I say, when we wake, breakfast in bed. Only the best for our royal selves!" He says dramatically.

"It would be afternoon by then, so it wouldn't be breakfast."

"Same difference, Nilly."

White Lily slips off of Pure Vanilla, lying on one end of the bed. Shadow Milk lifts the cookie up off his lap and into the middle, facing away from the souljam of freedom, who wraps her arms around his waist. Then finally, Shadow Milk finds his way facing away from Pure Vanilla, who wraps his arms arounf their waist.

"Triple spoon." The jester giggles, reaching into a portal and grabbing out a stuffed rabbit to hold in his own arms. This was obvious his favorite time of day.

The other two in the pile couldn't help but chuckle as well, getting comfortable in each other's presence.

All three bid each other goodnight before drifting off one by one.
