Chapter Text
Neither of them uttered a word as they stepped inside, the silence seemed loud enough for the both of them. This was it—their apartment.
Clack. The light flickered on. A finger slipped off of the switch.
They took a minute to take it all in; a look around. From where they were standing, they could tell that they were in a small hallway, and to the right, there was a small mudroom¹. It had full wall shelves, some cabinets, and a coat rack. Turning back around, facing forward and stepping in, there was an okay sized living room to the left, with shelves under the TV. It had the TV against the wall to the hallway, to the right of it on the other wall was a large window, and to the right of that on the wall they were facing, there was a couch with a bathroom behind it, it seemed. To the right of the living room across the apartment was an open, good sized kitchen with a small table against the wall with 3 chairs and a window above it. Again facing forward, one of them asked,
”Want to go see our rooms?”
To which the other responded, “Yeah.”
They started toward the far wall facing the front door, and stopped. To the left, behind the couch, was the bathroom. Facing forward yet again, there were 2 doors side-by-side. One opened the left door, and they walked in. There was a queen sized bed in the left corner, a black square-netted shelf to the right of the door, and to the right of the bed, in front of the shelf, there was a desk facing the wall. Above the bed and next to the desk, there were 2 windows. In front of the bed on the left wall, there was a small closet. The room needed to be decorated… badly.
They left the room and opened the door on the right. This room again had a bed in the left corner, but instead it was twin sized, and the room was a different shape. It was smaller, and had a diagonal corner angling backwards and extending the room in a section, starting right next to the bed, though the rest of the walls were a normal square shape. Where the diagonal corner ended, there was a desk with a window above it. Again, next to the door, there was a shelf, but it was wall-mounted. This room again had a small closet on the diagonal corner, and really needed to be decorated.
“So, Finn. Since this apartment is ours, which room do you want?” One of them asked the other.
”Um… I can take this room if it’s alright with you, Trevor?” Finn half-answered-half-questioned.
“Yep, totally! We should start unpacking, this place is pretty… blegh.” Trevor emphasized.
”Heh, yeah it is pretty bland,” They made eye contact, and held it for a second. Once Finn realized, he quickly averted his eyes.
“Anyways! Let’s get unpacking!” The aforementioned burst out.
Finn was organizing the two black shelves he had set up, placing books and other trinkets… records, fake plants… and wrapping string lights around the arches of the shelves’ structure, when he heard two soft knocks on his door.
“Come in!” He yelled.
His roommate stepped into the room, and his eyes visibly lit up as he looked around.
”Woah! You have so many posters! Your room looks so cool!” He exclaimed.
Finn felt the blood rush to his cheeks and the tips of his ears before he even processed the comment. He looked away bashfully.
”Thanks…” He mumbled to the wall.
”So I came to ask if you had any requests for dinner, I was thinking I could make something.” Trevor happily replied, oblivious to the blushing mess that was his childhood best friend.
“Oh uhh, no I don’t think so!” Finn replied way too quickly.
Trevor nodded, licking his lips nervously. “I’ll tell you when it’s ready.” His door closed with a soft click.
Finn continued to rearrange his room.
The first thing Finn noticed before he sits down to eat is that Trevor remembered his favorite food from when they were in middle school. Like… 14 year-old Finn’s food. He had no idea how he remembered that, but was eternally grateful for it anyways. He sits down with his food and starts playing with it, not knowing what to do.
“So… what’s new?” Trevor awkwardly asked, screaming internally when his voice cracked.
”Um, well, I got on this good hockey team…” Finn responded shyly.
”…And also—“ He takes a bite of the food. “Hey this is really good!” He interrupted himself with a remark.
Trevor let out the breath he was holding, nervousness fading away instantly with the friendly tone his roommate used. His eyes darted away, trying to hide the small smile that was in response to Finn’s excitement.
Finn noticed.
“Hey… how’d you remember this was my favorite food?” He questioned.
“I—uh. Don’t really know.” Trevor stammered out. He was a really bad liar and he knew that, but he couldn’t just tell Finn that after they drifted apart he didn’t have any friends so there was nothing to replace the memory.
Finn just spaced out.
”…You okay?” Trevor hesitantly implored.
He nodded quickly. ”Yeah, just thinking.”
“‘Kay, but if you need someone to talk to…” He gestured to himself.
Finn seemed surprised, but grateful for that.
In reality, Finn was just trying not to look too long at his former best friend. He never really stopped having feelings for him.
Trevor looked back down, and that seemed to be his cue to keep eating.
Once Finn finished his food, Trevor heard a shift, and saw Finn stand up out of his chair.
”You done? I can clean the dishes.” He offered.
”Oh yeah! Thanks!” He joyously answered. Finn beamed at this reaction.
”What do you want to watch?” Trevor queried.
”I’ll watch anything!” Finn enthusiastically smiled… again.
Trevor took the remote from the table and leaned back into the couch next to Finn. He scrolled down to Prime Video and clicked on it. He searched through genres until he found what he was looking for. Horror. More specifically, A Nightmare on Elm Street. His eyes darted to Finn in question. In response, the aforementioned nodded at him and looked back at the screen, where he clicked play.
Once Tina Gray dies, Trevor hears Finn’s breath hitch, and feels him automatically shift closer to the person next to him. Trevor, wraps his arm around his shoulder and pulls him closer.
When Glen Lantz gets sucked into his bed and blood sprays everywhere, he shrieks and cowers into Trevor’s hold, shoving his head into his chest and wrapping his arms around him unconsciously. Trevor is blushing furiously at this point, and the fact that Finn is hugging him is not making it any better.
Once Finn recovered, he had somehow made it into Trevor’s lap, but doesn’t seem to care and goes back to watching the movie.
Once the movie is over, Finn is a dead weight. He had fallen asleep after a few minutes of watching after hugging Trevor, and now he doesn’t know what to do with him. After a moment of hesitation, he decides to turn the TV off and scoop Finn into his arms to bring back to his room.
He gently places him onto his bed and lays the blanket on top of him to tuck him in. Before leaving, he places a feather light kiss onto his forehead, and with that shuts the door.
Once he’s definitely left, Finn’s eyes open as wide as saucers and he gapes.
He is so down bad for Trevor Yurinova.
