I really wanted to make a fic focused on Nico and Hazel, and when I read drewtanakagf's fic, I couldn't stop thinking about this concept, so here it is. I opened up a Google Doc and wrote down all the Nico & Hazel things I'd been considering, and this was what I ended up with.
Set in December 2010 in my timeline.
Work Text:
The first time she sees Nico pushing his way out of the shadows of her bedroom, Hazel thinks of her parents. She could only remember ever seeing Pluto in the dark, watching her with the same quiet expression that Nico wore in moments of peace, like this one. Her mother wouldn't have been able to keep her eyes off Nico, who was pale in a way that Hazel had only seen in the dead, and she wondered now if her mother would have thought him a zonbi. If she would have seen Hazel, alive and bright as she was, would she think the same of her? Would she have laid their bones together after she saved them in the only way she would ever know how?
