Chapter Text
Okabe continued to stand there with his eyes closed. A few minutes had passed since Kurisu asked him to close his eyes.He could hear the sound of her fumbling with something in the car. He couldn't help but feel anxious. "There!" He heard her say, followed by the sounds of the car shaking. As he guessed, she had climbed on top of the car's hood to match his eye level. At this point he could her almost nothing but the sound of his own heartbeat, and feel cold beads of sweat racing down his neck.
He then felt the vague yet familiar sensation on his lips, cold then very warm. He briefly opened his eyes to see what had befallen: it was Kurisu, on her knees atop the pink cadillac's hood, kissing him with arms around him. As he closed his eyes all he could think about was how differently she appeared in that moment. A kind of glow, maybe a side-effect from the setting desert sun, he thought to himself.
Makise was blushing hard. She was thinking to herself nervously, asking herself internal questions like she had committed a crime.
"This is so ridiculous and illogical...but it feels so right."
"Was this the right thing to do? What if I had just walked away...what if, by some miracle, this was fate?"
"If those dreams really happened...maybe this is right. Maybe...just maybe...its worth a shot."
Of course, Okabe had asked himself similar questions on many a sleepless night throughout the last 3 weeks. All doubt had seemed to fade with the setting sun.
They disengaged from their embrace and looked at each other. Okabe smirked a little as he noticed the minute smears of hastily applied makeup on her cheeks. "No need to get all pretty for me, mind you" He said in a relaxed tone. "Oh yeah? Well, you could stand to shave a few of those whiskers off, 'Shaggy'" she replied in a teasing tone. He smiled a little, with a light laugh."That was a cheap shot!" he blurted out as he whipped out his phone, talking into it as he usually does. "The organization has begun with personal attacks...they must have large stock holdings in the razor industry." Makise burst out laughing. "You're really something, you know that?"
"Yes, and you're quite the tsundere yourself...Christina" he said in his normal tone of voice, looking away from her..
"WHAT!!?? I AM NOT..." she paused, realizing he was just messing with her. With a gentle sigh, she walked over to him and took him by the hand, leaning on his arm. Caught unaware, he looked down at her, as she stared forward. "Promise me something..."
"Sure, anything" he said, a little confused.
" Don't ever change...being who you are, I mean. Not even for me."
"Only on the condition that you hold yourself to the same terms." She looked up into his eyes, a little startled, as he said this.
"Yeah, ok."
They stood just like that, watching the sun continue to plummet beneath the horizon. Despite the onset of the cool dusk temperatures of their arid surroundings, each was warm enough as long as they embraced on another. Then a cool wind blew that chilled them both.
"Come on, we've gotta figure out how we're gonna get out of here or we might be coyote chow" Kurisu said.
"Indeed, that would not be very pleasant."
