Adventures through Hell with Jazz & Clark

Summary:

This takes place during chapter 5 of Just a Few Words

Danny has sent Superman to California to get Jazz to have her help navigate his team through hell to try and unfreeze it. Jazz is less than amused.

Notes:

I need you all to know that I had no intention of ever writing this, but here we are. Also, it was because of talking about this little side adventure that the last chapter of Just a Few Words went the way it did.

Work Text:

Jazz frowned a bit as she flipped through the file in front of her.

It was a beautiful day in California, as always. Sometimes Jazz missed living somewhere with seasons, but then Danny would send her a text with a picture of all the snow covering his driveway and that nostalgia would immediately disappear.

As it was, Jazz was sitting on her patio. It was the nice thing about what she did for a living; she could set her own schedule. She reached over to grab her cup of coffee only to pause when there was a rush of wind and the cup rattled.

Earthquakes weren't uncommon in her area, but that certainly didn't explain the wind.

"Are you Jazz?"

Jazz looked up and blinked. Superman was standing on her patio.

"Uh, yes?" Jazz replied, brow furrowing as she wondered just what it was that could have brought Superman of all people to her door. The fact that Danny was dating Batman hit her like a ton of bricks and her eyes went wide in alarm, "Is something wrong?"

"Phantom sent me to get you," Superman replied.

Jazz blinked once, twice, three times, "For what?"

"He said you'd be able to help me navigate my way through the Infinite Realms to reach hell?"

Whatever Jazz had been expecting him to say, that certainly wasn't it. She paused for a moment, took a breath, closed her file, and got to her feet, "Let me put this inside and we can go."

It hadn't exactly occurred to Jazz how they were going to get into the Infinite Realms now that the portal in Amity was closed, but apparently Superman knew a way in so she wasn't going to question it. Stepping into the Infinite Realms after so much time was a little startling if Jazz was being honest.

She felt sixteen again.

It wasn't hard to get to the Far Frozen and get the Infi-map from Frostbite. Superman had looked up at the yeti in confusion, but kept any comments to himself. One of the other heroes that were with them (Zatanna, Jazz was pretty sure she said her name was) commented on how the Infinite Realms were the lands of the dead for multiple realities. Jazz had already been aware of that, but it seemed to answer Superman's unasked question.

"So how does this work?" Superman asked, frowning down at the map in Jazz's hand.

"We just ask it to take us and it will," Jazz explained, "So if you're all ready to go…"

"Lead the way," Superman responded.

Jazz gave a nod and opened the map, "Take us to hell."

Landing in hell was immediately eventful.

Not that Jazz was expecting otherwise, but having a moment to breathe would have been nice. She'd barely had a moment to tuck the map into her bag before they were surrounded by demons and ghosts. The other heroes fell into the fight without missing a beat and Jazz huffed a bit before pulling out the Fenton Anti-Creep stick (now collapsible for easy transport!).

She snapped her wrist, extending the bat to full length and taking a hard swing toward a demon that managed to approach her. The demon went down with a screech, even as Jazz slipped a bit on the icy ground beneath her feet.

"I thought hell freezing over was an expression!" Jazz called into the chaos, not really expecting anyone to answer.

"Hell freezing over is why we're here. We have to set it right again," Zatanna called before dispatching her own demon, "So that we can send the dead bank to where they belong!"

Jazz didn't like the implications of that statement, "So how do you reignite hell?"

"We're not sure," Superman called back and Jazz sputtered even as she hit another demon.

"You're not sure?!"

"This hasn't really happened before," Zatanna said a bit defensively.

"Well if I'd known that, I would have taken us to Clockwork first," Jazz huffed, dodging an attack before kicking the demon away from her.

"Who?" Superman frowned over at her for a moment before going back to fighting.

"Ancient of Time," Jazz replied, elbowing a demon with one arm before swinging her bat at it, "Though he rarely gives straight answers anyway."

Zatanna paused and looked at Jazz, "You know the Ancient of Time?"

"Yeah?" Jazz straightened as the last demon went down, "He likes to mess with Phantom."

Superman walked over to Jazz, crossing his arms, "How do you know Phantom again?"

"How do you know Phantom?" Jazz countered, crossing her own arms as best she could while still holding the Fenton Anti-Creep Stick.

Superman faltered a bit, "Oh, uh, well, I don't, but Batman seems to."

"I should hope so," Jazz quipped back before uncrossing her arms and moving to go around Superman and deeper into hell.

"…what's that mean?" Zatanna asked behind her, but Jazz didn't reply. Danny and Bruce's relationship was their business, not the business of random superheroes.

Overall, Jazz would rate her trip through hell a solid 7/10. Far too many demons, but honestly not nearly as bad as she was expecting. Though she certainly could have done without the entire show that took place to re-ignite hell.

She was trying very hard not to dwell on it as they made their way back to Manhattan, where, apparently, the rest of the Justice League and Phantom currently were.

She couldn't help but smile at the sight of her brother doing what he did best; kicking ass, "Phantom!"

Danny turned at the call, looking toward Jazz as she moved toward him, Fenton Anti-Creep Stick resting against her shoulder. He offered her a smile before his eyes shifted over to Superman who was standing a few feet behind her.

Danny suddenly moved. Jazz startled when he ran past her, and she turned to see him make his arm go intangible, reaching into Superman's chest and pulling something out.

Jazz gasped in surprise as Superman dropped to his knees. How long had that been in him? How did none of the rest of them see it happen? Wasn't Zatanna a magic user; she didn't feel the extra presence?

Jazz turned to look at what seemed to be another demon that was sitting on the ground in front of Phantom.

"Phantom," he said with a slight grin, "What are the odds of seeing you here?"

Jazz felt her blood run cold. How did this thing know who Phantom was? Did the other ghosts spread gossip about him all the way to hell?

"Neron," Wonder Woman spoke, crossing her arms as she stared down at him, "Go back to hell where you belong."

Jazz looked over at Wonder Woman before looking back over at Danny again. He didn't look like he was taking the realization that demons could recognize him very well either. Neron looked up at Wonder Woman before looking back over at Danny.

"Of course," he practically purred before disappearing.

Danny let out a quiet huff before looking over at Jazz, "You alright?"

"Everything went fine," Jazz agreed, offering him a slightly strained smile. She knew that he would be aware that she wasn't telling the entire truth, but he wouldn't call her out in front of strangers.

"How'd you know?"

Danny turned at the question, blinking at the Flash, "Know what?"

"That he was possessing Superman," Green Lantern answered.

"Oh, I could just… see it," Danny shrugged a little, "Hard to explain."

Wonder Woman looked over at him from where she was checking on Superman, "He knew who you were."

"Uh, yeah, that was my next question," Flash agreed.

Bruce cleared his throat and the League looked over at him, "This is Phantom. He's been a solo hero for the last 20 years. Recently came to Gotham."

Jazz tried hard not to smile. Bruce was really dancing the line, wasn't he?

Superman looked up at Batman, raising an eyebrow, "You let another hero into Gotham?"

Danny snorted in response, catching the others' attention again, "Let is a strong word."

Jazz covered her mouth and cleared her own throat, "So uh…"

Flash jerked a thumb at Jazz, "And who's this?"

Danny just looked at Jazz, completely ignoring the fact that the Flash had spoken at all, "I can take you home, unless you wanted to come back to Gotham."

Jazz looked over at Danny and shrugged, "Have all the spirits been put back to rest?"

Danny hummed, "Feels like it."

Jazz gave a nod, "Sounds good. Robin owes me a book, anyway."

Danny rolled his eyes, "Of course he does."

Danny held out a hand making a portal and pulling Jazz through it.
