Strawberry milk and french toast

Summary:

Youngjae is known for being impossible to wake—grumpy, stubborn, and more than willing to shove anyone off the bed. So when Jihoon tries to wake him up, he fully expects the same treatment. But instead of being pushed away, he’s met with something softer.

Work Text:

The morning light filtered softly through the curtains of their dorm, casting a gentle glow over the rumpled sheets. Youngjae was buried deep under the covers, face pressed into the pillow, breathing slow and even. He hated mornings. Hated being woken up. His friends had learned about it the hard way when they tried to wake him up, only for them to be pushed right off the bed with a grumpy grunt. Sometimes the push was rough enough to send someone stumbling, followed by a sleepy “go away” and left no further room for argument.

Jihoon knew about this all too well. He had seen it happen plenty of times before they dated. Today though, Jihoon wanted to surprise Youngjae with breakfast in bed—strawberry milk with french toast arranged neatly in a tray—but first, he needed to coax Youngjae awake.

Jihoon carefully crawled over the bed, the mattress dipping under him. He leaned towards Youngjae’s sleeping form and whispered slowly, “Hyung, it’s time to wake up.”

No response huh?

Jihoon tried to poke Youngjae’s cheeks but there was still no reaction. Well, that’s expected from someone who hates mornings.

Jihoon poked Youngjae’s cheeks again and this time, Youngjae grumbled under his finger while burying his face deeper into the pillow which made Jhoon giggle softly, “Hyung is so cute!” Jihoon scooted closer and wrapped his arms around Youngjae from behind, hugging him tightly. He nuzzled between Youngjae’s shoulder blades, legs tangling under the sheets. “Hyunggg, come on! I made your breakfast. Don’t make me eat it all.”

Youngjae stirred, body immediately tensing. His arm moved automatically, ready to push whoever had the guts to wake him up so early in the morning. Youngjae’s palm landed on Jihoon’s side, ready to push him off.

But then, he paused.

He recognized the familiar warmth currently clinging to his back. The soft hair tickling his nape, and the way those arms fit perfectly around him. It was Jihoon. His clingy and adorable Jihoon.

The push never came. Instead, Youngjae’s hand softened, patting Jihoon softly. He let out a long, reluctant sigh and slowly turned over to reciprocate the hug, eyes still closed, and body relaxing again. Jihoon would’ve lied if he said his heart didn’t flutter at Youngjae’s action.

The moment Youngjae turned over, Jihoon immediately hid his face in Youngjaes chest.

Youngjae cracked one his eyes open and looked at the boy currently tucked against his chest, clearly hiding his face. “Why are you hiding? I want to see your face,” Jihoon whined and Youngjae laughed at him fondly while burying his face in Jihoon's hair.

Youngjae pulled back and gently held Jihoon’s face. “Didn’t you want to wake me up, hmm? Why are you so shy now?”

Jihoon mumbled, “Because..you’re too pretty when you just woke up....” Youngjae laughed and kissed Jihoon’s forehead while Jihoon tightened his grip around him, his ears turning red, clearly blushing.

“Is that so? Well, Jihoonie, where’s my breakfast?”

“Oh!” Jihoon suddenly sat up straight and bolted outside the room, “R-right! I’ll get it now…!” Youngjae chuckled at that.

If waking early was the price for seeing Jihoon’s face, Youngjae would give up every last minute of sleep without hesitation—just for the quiet, fleeting moment of having him all to himself at the start of each day.
