A son born to David, future King of Israel, during his years living among the Philistines, Ellor was never acknowledged by his father and grew up among his mother's relatives in a village close to Gaza.
Coming from a family of scribes, Ellor's mother prepared him for this profession. Through this training the boy became efficient in various languages, able to read and write fluently in each.
Ellor married Tirza, a daughter of a Midianite traveling merchant and fathered a large family of fifteen children.
Ellor's work, while primarily consisting of contracts and other documents, also contained a book of genealogy of his paternal lineage which traced David’s family history back to Adam and Eve, giving detailed accounts of each ancestor proposed Eden was not a Garden but a fallen Kingdom.
Ellor also wrote a biography of his father following David's death in 970 BC.
In the months leading up to David's death the King sent for Ellor and the two met for the first time, the Scribe taking the opportunity to ask his father questions about his life and reign, giving him the information needed to write his book.
This biography, in later centuries, would serve as a primary source for Ezra the Scribe after the Babylonian exile when he wrote the Book of Chronicles.
Ellor ben David died in Gaza in 903 BC. Two of his daughters would marry Phoenician merchants and migrate to Phoenician colonies in Spain where they settled, their descendants later becoming founding ancestors of the Basque people.
