Work Text:

“You know… I’ve always been able to remember your eyes.” Ashildr muttered softly.

She was sitting on a couch in the TARDIS control room, her back to Clara as she perused over some of her old diaries.

“Huh?” Clara called from her place at the TARDIS console. She was fiddling with the buttons, doing something Ashildr couldn’t even pretend to understand. She could hear all the beeps and whooshes and whirs.

“My memory, it’s finite. But I’ve always been able to remember your eyes.” She clarified.

Clara’s hands stilled and the sounds ceased. “Really? Since the viking village?”

Ashildr could hear the smile in her voice. “Yeah. I’d always see them in my dreams. And when I began to forget you, they still stayed. It’s how I knew it was you, when I saw you on the Trap Street. I’d recognise your eyes anywhere.”

Ashildr turned to face Clara. The woman before her was staring dumbfounded, those eyes locked on Ashildr’s.

“You can be quite a romantic at times, you know?” Clara eventually said.

Ashildr laughed and turned away. “Shut up.”

“I’m serious.” Clara said.

Ashildr scoffed, turning the page of her diary. “No you’re not.”

A few seconds later, Ashildr felt Clara wrap her arms around her shoulders. Her head lolled to the side to face Ashildr. “So, how long have you been in love with me?”

Ashildr groaned. “Never. Not if you keep this up.”

Clara smiled and let Ashildr go, walking around to settle on the couch properly.

“Sure. And what entry are you reading over exactly?”

Ashildr slammed the book shut. It was an entry from after the events of Trap Street occurred, featuring Ashildr lamenting embarrassingly about Clara’s death.

“Actually I was preparing for the entry for the inevitable day where I kick you out of this TARDIS.” Ashildr sniffed.

“Right. Forgot. Big Bad Immortal isn’t allowed to have any silly feelings like love.” Clara said, nestling against Ashildr’s shoulder.

Ashildr set her diary on the coffee table in front of her. “Exactly. Glad that you finally understand that.”

“So you won’t care if I…” Clara smiled and leaned in, face dangerously close to Ashildr’s.

Ashildr kept her face stony, staring into Clara’s… eyes.

“Bingo.” Clara whispered, before she leaned in to give Ashildr a short kiss on the lips.

She pulled back and slumped against the couch. “Now, c’mon, I wanna read the entry from when we bumped into that matchstick Doctor.”
