Work Text:
“Swedish.” Clara demanded.
Ashildr sighed. “Yes I know Swedish. I told you I know every language.”
Clara groaned. “This isn’t fair, how do you know every language?”
“I’ve been alive for trillions of years. It takes 10,000 hours to master something. I have had that time, many times over.” Ashildr shrugged her shoulders.
“Even for all the alien languages?”
“Even for all the alien languages.”
Clara clapped her hands together. “How do I know that you’re not just saying gibberish?”
“Because if it was gibberish, the TARDIS wouldn’t be translating it.”
Clara’s once-smug face fell, before it suddenly brightened. “Then why can’t you read the TARDIS manual in Gallifreyan?”
Ashildr’s face soured.
Clara laughed. “Hah! I knew you couldn’t know every language.”
Ashildr scowled. “Not my fault the Time Lords are pretentious pricks who won’t let non-Gallifreyans learn their language.”
Clara’s brow furrowed. “How do they do that?”
“They sort of put a mental block in their own minds, so anyone who hears them speak is just hearing gibberish. Unless you’re Gallifreyan. And the same goes for written text.”
“That’s bloody stupid in my opinion.”
Ashildr gave her a look that screamed ‘tell me about it’.
