Work Text:
Kaeya groaned as he slumped down on his loaded paperworks. His back is aching from sitting too long, his head is dizzy and his stomach had let out a soft growl for the tenth time. Right, he hadn't had something to eat since... today's breakfast.
Or is it yesterday?
Kaeya glanced at the clock. 1 in the morning.
It's a surprise he hadn't passed out of exhaustion yet. Well he wishes he had at least taken a nap but the knights endless works keep him working until now. Due to their lack of mens, the workload had been doubled over than before and he doesn't want to put more plate on their Acting grandmaster.
Still, he's so immerse in finishing his work fast that he forgot about the time.
Kaeya only stopped once the writing on the page seems to blur. He take a sharp breath and close his eye.
He's at his limits, he knows.
But still—
He takes a moment and pick up his quill.
Just a little more.
Time seems to have passed again only for a couple minutes before he heard something.
Tap.
Hm?
Kaeya stopped for a moment. Blinking in confusion, he thought he had somewhat misheard it before the sound returns again.
Tap tap.
Did he forget to lock the window properly? He takes a glance back and the glass was sealed shut as before.
Must've been the wind.
Tap.
...
Is there a child throwing some pebbles at this time of hour? Well he certainly can give a word or two to them, he rose from his seat.
Tap...tap tap tap.
Ugh.
Kaeya turned around sharply and was about to cursed at whatever entity that had decided to bother him this time, when a flash of a red haired man with an owl mask and his ragged cape falls down in a second, hanging upsidedown like a bat from outside of his window, looking unimpressed.
(Kaeya didn't shrieks. He totally dont. Nope.)
"Shit!" He stumbled back hitting his chair and fall ungracefully on the floor. "You son of a—"
"We both share the same father."
The anti-hero casually let himself in and landed (with unnecessary backflip) inside his office.
"Well you're more of a bitch then."
The redhead scoffed before pulling the captain up by his arm, his gaze slowly softened and turned into a mix of worry.
"Why are you still up?"
"I could ask you the same thing, Mr vigilante." Kaeya huffed and crossed his arms. "If I wasn't so busy with these papers, I could literally arrested you right now." Oh, he was tempted for sure. "But I'll turn a blind eye for this illegal trespassing and let you off. Again. You should feel lucky, Mister Owl."
The man frowned.
"I know the knights are lacking in everything..." He pulls Kaeya by the back collar and dragged him to the tiny table in the middle of the room. "But you should take better care of yourself too."
"Hey—" Kaeya chocked and flailing around to escape. "—Diluc!"
Diluc lovingly let his back fall onto the soft cushion. In an instant a couple of warm meals was presented before his very eye, from his favored skewers to fruits, desserts and cookies and as the elder take a seat across him wearing his usual deadpan look, he tutted to the foods.
"Eat those, Adeline prepared some for you." He crossed his legs and leans back comfortably as if he was in the comfort of his own home. "Archons know you had the tendency to skipped meals even though you had the immune system of a literal baby."
"I'm not a baby." Kaeya muttered.
But he can't help salivating at those delicious homie cooking of their head maid. It has been a while since he last had a proper meal.
...And been a while since be last had dinner with someone too. Kaeya glanced up and found the softest smile on Diluc's face, it almost made him feel giddy and shy.
"..I can't finish all of them." He mumble.
Diluc raised an eyebrow.
Kaeya internally rolled his eyes. "Let's eat together Dummkopf, I can't eat all of this by myself."
Diluc let out a short laugh. Yet, he move to pickup some of the fruits of his own.
"What are you working on?"
Kaeya take a bite on his mushrooms skewers and another, mouth so full yet he replied either way. "Just some- mhm reports of the fatui—"
Diluc scowl in disapprove. "Don't talk with your mouth full."
Kaeya gulped down and stick out his tongue. "Okay Dad."
"Brat."
"Dummkopf"
"Watch your mouth Сволочь"
"Ohh scary~"
And another round of insults was thrown at one another and you might think it would never end, but the foods wins and so they peacefully enjoy each other company again.
They've finished half of them but some had to be taken back to his home. Well he can enjoy it again later.
Kaeya head slowly tilted to the side and his eye are getting heavier by the second.
"You're tired?" A warm hand ruffles his hair and Kaeya lean into those tender touch. Craving it like a child would. Maybe he is a baby after all.
"Let's go back home. You should sleep properly." A softer tone, so gentle like his hands.
Kaeya protest, well tried to.
"Can't...still have works to do.."
Honestly he knows that he's a waste to do any work in this state.
"Yeah no." Unceremoniously Diluc heaved up Kaeya on his shoulder and Kaeya sober up quickly from his sleep, sputters in incoherent curse as he grabbed the other's hair.
"Motherfucker—"
"Ow let the fuck off my hair!"
And another round of insult was thrown yet again.
In the end, they decided to walk together to Kaeya's apartment. Well, Diluc was the one to do the walking and with a snuggling Kaeya hanging on his back.
"I thought you don't want to be carried?" Diluc huffed as he stepped down the stairs.
"Who says I don't?" Kaeya lean over and hugged Diluc's neck even tighter, feeling the warmth provided in the cold night. "Don't you dare say I'm heavy."
"You're not." Diluc scoffed and adjusting his grips on his younger brother as he take one final step of the stair. "You're getting light...you should eat more."
"I'm dieting actually."
The redhead scoffed again.
"More like dying if you keep this up."
Kaeya sigh and close his eyes, prompting to just let his head fall on the broad and strong shoulders.
"Yeah maybe I should eat properly... "
Diluc let out a hummed.
"Diluc?"
"Hm?" Diluc glance back.
"Let's have dinner like this again?" A question so innocent and right now he really does look like a child.
His adorable little brother.
The elder smile and simply say.
"Sure, brother."
