Chapter Text
Konoha Hospital
Obito Uchiha
The first thing that filtered in was sound, distant and muddied, as if underwater.
The next was heaviness, not the normal, sleepy kind either. No, this was a marrow deep, sticky heaviness that rested in the body like concrete and asphalt.
Or, was he smelling that?
To his left, finally, a sound broke clear of the haze, though it was a rather loud, incessant sound. It was followed by the faint noise of a sliding door opening in the background, and the scuffle of what sounded like sneakers, walking up to him.
Something shifted and light finally leaked its way in through the dark.
Had he opened his eyes finally?
Obito thought he had already done that though.
Nevertheless, the thought was broken as yet another sensation flooded back in, were those words?
"O...."
"O...b..i.."
"Obito?" The sound of a woman's voice broke through, the word finally registering, "Obi-? Hey- hey kiddo... Can you hear me?" the woman added, seeing Obito's eyes flutter open marginally further.
There was the vague pressure of something on his head then-- he realized, after a moment, it was a hand.
Right as Obito tried to open his mouth, or at least swallow against the dry grit that had settled in his throat, or, whatever was in his throat, a bright light flashed across the already-blurred landscape of his vision.
Obito flinched, hissing out from the sharp pain the light had caused to bloom out behind his eyes, seeping into his skull. Except, when he hissed, another, more uncomfortable sensation scratched its way up his chest into his throat, and he coughed against whatever was in his throat. The muscles contracting in his diaphragm protested the reflex, aching deep, down into his back.
The woman who had spoken before shushed him gently, "Hey hey.... Shh... you're alright," the hand that was on his head-- in his hair really-- moved, carefully smoothing some stray strands of Obito's onyx hair down to his forehead.
"But, there's a little tube in your throat right now, ok?" She continued to say, "Its helping you eat because you've been sleeping."
