Work Text:
I have seen empires rise and fall. I brought about the fall of the Old Republic.
Over a thousand years ago, the Jedi brought an end to the Sith— or so they believed. In reality, the Sith survived. The end of the Sith ushered in an era of great peace— but even the Jedi could not ignore the growing darkness.
With my power, I was able to create life itself. A boy, in the womb of an enslaved woman. He would be my instrument.
The corporations increased in power until they were nations unto themselves. The Jedi were sent to restore order to the galaxy. That is when they discovered Anakin. The bond I have shared with him since his childhood is unlike any in the galaxy. He has always turned to me for help. I have spoken to him from his youth and shown him great and terrible things.
The Jedi feared his potential, for his power was great, and his future clouded. He was full of strength— but he gave into me when his loved ones were threatened. At the height of his power, I gave him a new name— Darth Vader.
Vader brought an end to the Jedi Order— but not the Jedi. He begat a son— Luke, who would become a powerful ally to me as his father had been.
My existence was known only to a few by that time. I have always shrouded myself in mystery. For years, I showed one side of myself to the galaxy— then, during the reign of the Empire, I showed the galaxy another, one that had been quietly accumulating power all those decades. Luke was mine from the beginning, before he even knew it. As he came to know me, he followed in his father’s footsteps. He learned the truth of his father.
My servant Luke confronted my servant Anakin. He refused to accept that Anakin was dead. Vader stoked his hatred, his rage, until Luke nearly destroyed what he sought to save— just as Anakin had destroyed what he sought to save. Realizing the darkness within him, he cast aside his weapon. I flowed from the wrath of Sidious to punish Luke for this rejection. But Anakin called upon me with all his strength and overthrew Sidious.
With Sidious’ destruction came the end of the Sith. The Sith, who had been my slaves and my masters, were no more. Thus did Anakin fulfill the role I had Chosen for him. He brought me into balance.
For the two sides of me will always exist and cannot be destroyed. The light— that which is bravery, serenity, love, and joy. The dark— that which is fear, anger, hatred, and suffering. I exist in all things. I am life. I am destruction. To deny the dark side is to give it strength. But you must choose light in spite of the darkness. The Sith imposed their will on me. The Jedi submitted to it. It is my will that my darkness be tempered. For if darkness flourishes I consume all. But the light cannot be extinguished, for without the light I am nothing.
I have seen orders rise and fall. I brought about the rise of the new Jedi Order.
