“Do you remember when I said I wasn’t a reincarnation?” Remilia asked.
Golden eyes looked at her, head tilted. “You weren’t lying then, just as you’re not lying now, though I’m not sure why that is of any importance.”
“Her name was, is, Emi,” she said, knowing Angel would listen to what she had to say. “She had taken over my body as the reincarnate did for the Star Maiden’s body, but she was no devil. She was a kind angel who tried to take what she knew of my future, a sad and lonely future with no love, and give me a happy ending instead.”
“I believe you,” he said. “As strange as your story sounds, I believe you.”
“You’ve no choice with those eyes of yours,” Remilia said. “The reincarnate that took over the Star Maiden, though, the future that Emi tried changing so I could have a happy ending, she wanted the ending that the Star Maiden would have originally gotten without working for it, not caring who she hurt or manipulated to get there.”
“I guess that’s why she thought I would be hers?” Angel said, voice soft. “That rang as truth, even though I couldn’t understand how it could be true, because I had no interest in someone like her.”
“She believed it to be true, but that is neither…”
“What would the future have held for me, for my people?”
Remilia drew silent, “I’d like to say it would be a happy ending for you, because you would have found your kingdom’s borders opened up, as well as trade, but…”
“But?”
“You would have lost someone very precious to you, but I wish to say nothing more on the matter. I only brought it up because…”
“Because why?”
“Because I am grateful to Emi, and want to give her a second life, either as a golem, or…” Remilia paused. “Or as our child.”
“So then I’d be able to love this angel who is the reason you and I are together as well?” Angel said. “Seems like it’s meant to be, no?”
Remilia grinned. “But she wasn’t the only soul negatively impacted, love,” Remilia said, “Because just as Emi took over my body, and it ended up being for my own good, the same was for another.”
“The original soul of the Star Maiden?”
“I’d like the chance to save them as well, but I also wish for your permission to do so, as we are two halves of the same coin.”
“Yes.” He smiled at her. “This matches with the one I fell in love with, but to give them a second chance at life, the two of them, and to give them the childhoods they deserve, the happy ending they both deserve. I am more than happy to do so.”
“Thank you,” Remillia said.
