Work Text:

Kyujin has had to force Yoona to drink water, but blood is an entirely new ordeal.

She first realizes her girlfriend hasn't drunken any when she comes home from the dance academy, her muscles burning with a faint ache, her heart still pounding from the exertion of pushing herself further and further with each new choreography they were made to learn. The concept of pulling away Yoona from her games and falling into her arms felt entirely too enticing, but knowing her girlfriend, she knew she likely hadn't eaten anything all day.

Kyujin would complain, but Yoona was the one between the two with a full-time job that usually left her drained by the time the weekend arrived, and Kyujin wasn't about to complain when the older girl needed her time to decompress.

So, before she bothered her, the younger girl drifted toward the kitchen. Yoona's salary offered the pair a pretty substantial home, with warm golden lighting washing over the surroundings when Kyujin flicked a switch, and the kitchen portion of the apartment remained untouched, still as clean as she left it. There's a faint tug in her chest, a slight pout forming on her lips at the thought of Yoona not even realizing she was hungry. Did she even notice? She was still so new to the whole… vampire thing. They both were.

She thinks over it as she lets the stove light up, blue flames tipped with a pale orange as she picks up pots and pans, reheating stews and other such ingredients, before throwing on an apron and heading toward the cutting board. Her knife comes down against the vegetables, cooking up a soup she knew her girlfriend would appreciate, as her mind wandered. She thinks back to those years ago, to when their lives had been irreversibly changed.

Kyujin finds Yoona unconscious, a faint trail of blood running down her neck, her eyes hazy, her skin paler than it ever should have been. The scream lies lodged in her throat as she darted over, collapsing at her friend's side, before looking over. Nearby was a woman, short black hair, eyes wide and crimson. Kyujin's chest hammered, glancing down at Yoona and… were her teeth always that sharp?

She pushes strands of midnight black hair out of her friend's face, glancing up at the seemingly scared other woman. It wasn't long before someone else took her side with a gasp, a girl with longer blonde hair in a crimson sweater, glancing back at the other pair. "I…" All eyes bar Yoona's fall to the short black-haired woman. "I didn't mean to, I… someone was… I just…" Blood dripped from her lips, and the blonde woman held her, glancing back toward Yoona.

"She… is she…?" She asks, and Kyujin swallows. She wants to scream, to refuse to answer the question, but when she glances down, her breath stalls. Because Yoona is staring back at her, those dark eyes no longer as hazy, instead focusing on Kyujin. Weakly, she raises a hand, cupping the side of Kyujin's face, and Kyujin grasps it almost immediately.

"Yoona… you—" She freezes, because Yoona's hand is as cold as stone, but she suppresses the urge to shiver, "You should—"

"Kyu… It's okay," she whispers, and Kyujin almost faints. Because distantly, faintly, she can feel Yoona's pulse slowly begin to continue once more. "I'm… I'm okay."

They'd later learn the two women were called Haewon and Lily, and the entire ordeal had been an unfortunate mishap. A man had attempted to rob Yoona, Haewon had tried to intervene, and in the crossfire, Haewon had bitten Yoona by total accident. Lily was apparently Haewon's partner, and over a coffee, had helped Kyujin adapt to the new life she now had to lead, as Yoona's partner and occasional guardian.

She pours the vegetables into the simmering pot, hearing the liquid hiss angrily as she thinks over everything Lily had taught her. She learned Twilight was apparently vastly inaccurate, learned that the majority of vampires these days were apparently not 'true' vampires and were not immortal, meaning both Haewon and Yoona were both going to grow old and die some day, though perhaps they'd age more gracefully than anyone else. She learned they weren't all weak to the sun nor did they sparkle, and above all else, Kyujin learned vampires were, in fact, really fucking weird.

Yoona could no longer enter any house unless someone explicitly invited her in (which most just assumed was because she was shy), she had an aversion to the sunlight even with no weakness to it (which Kyujin thought wasn't too drastic from the gamer's previous habits) and she could actually turn into a bat (which she'd used to scare the shit out of Jinsol whenever she'd visit). She also learned vampires ate and drank the same as normal humans, with a few notable exceptions.

Kyujin makes a note to ensure the meat is rarer and more raw than it has any right to be, slightly cringing as she handles it, though is more than aware that this is now a preference for Yoona. She ensures, in a separate pot, her own bowl of stew has the meat cooked to a much more reasonable level. She also glances down at her wrist, and considers using that kit Lily had given her to draw some blood into a vial for Yoona, but considers that, maybe, Yoona might not even be thirsty for blood. Though, she does think, had Yoona drank any recently…

"I mean, there was that deer…" she mumbles to herself, "But… that was a while ago… I did leave some blood bags in the fridge if she needed any, but she always says they don't taste as good as…"

Is it odd she blushes at the thought? It probably is, but it isn't any weirder than having to ask her local butcher's for bags of blood, or the fact that said butcher's didn't even question it once. She shudders, shaking her head.

It takes a few more minutes to finish up what she was cooking, but before long, she's done. She portions out the soup into bowls (because Yoona refused to eat if Kyujin wasn't also eating), and pours a glass of water, already knowing that across their desk was likely packets of chips and more than one can of Monster. Apparently, being a vampire meant having a much higher threshold for caffeine, something Yoona abused the hell out of. If Kyujin had to see one more empty can of Pacific Punch on their floor…

She sighs, shaking her head, picking up the tray and heading toward her girlfriend's room. Along the way, her mind softens, and she thinks of the small signs of Yoona in their space. Her shoes at the foot of the door, the pictures she begged to have framed along their walls of their various dates and vacations, her pink sweater she left out on the sofa, and the giggling from her room, no doubt over whatever Minecraft build she'd spent hours on that day.

It was much appreciated when compared to the yelling of her Overwatch game play, though she supposes even that is something she loved. Kyujin couldn't help it — just the sight of Yoona was enough to make her go silly. The image of that cute smile, those warm eyes, the random pictures Yoona would send throughout the day, the frequent messages that Kyujin didn't find overwhelming, but instead, adorable. Because it was all a reminder, a reminder of how much Yoona cherished her, that whenever Yoona collected Kyujin into her arms and kissed her forehead, it lit up her chest with the same warmth that engulfed the younger girl.

She sighs contently, pausing outside of Yoona's door, an ache in her chest. Maybe it was the exertion of the day, perhaps it was seeing her friends with their boyfriends, but Kyujin needed to see Yoona. She needed to hear the sound of her voice, to feel the soothing chill of her skin that was a balm to her aching burning muscles, needed to smell the older girl's perfume and bury her face in the crook of her neck as Yoona drew circles on her back.

Kyujin needed Yoona, so she knocked on her door.

"K-Kkyu?" A voice said, Yoona's, though it immediately made Kyujin pause, her eyes widening in alarm. She'd heard Yoona's voice, heard the soft quality to it and the brightness that rang out with her laughs, yet this wasn't it. It sounded familiar, yet it was meeker, raspier, as if even speaking was a monumentally hard task. She pushes the door open, adjusting the tray carefully as she stepped in.

Her eyes took a moment to adjust to the dark of the room, finding the bright blue light cast by the monitor, the glow of Yoona's Minecraft world illuminating the dark shadows of their room. Yoona turns, weak, eyes sunken as Kyujin gives a quiet gasp. She watches Yoona smile, that achingly familiar smile, and glances toward the tray in her hands, and offers a slight giggle.

"A-Aww, did you… make me soup?" She attempts to get up from her position, hunched over her desk, but stumbles. With impressive co-ordination, Kyujin darts forth, the tray balanced in one hand as she manages to catch Yoona. The taller girl's arms were always lithe, yet right now they felt stick-thin, weak, as though she'd been emaciated for days on end. Her breathing is fragmented, and Kyujin feels a telltale rumble and shiver through Yoona's frame — she was hungry, but not just for food.

"Yoona…" She whispers, eyes glistening, and Yoona looks up at her.

"Kkyu… my kitty… always so… caring…" She smiles, and Kyujin suppresses the panic rising in her chest. She slowly rises, Yoona pressed against her frame as she sets the soup down on the desk, before reorientating towards their bed, tugging her girlfriend onto it with her. Kyujin shuffles, until her back hits the wall, and Yoona gazes up at her, eyes glassy as she hums a faint tune — likely an OST from one of her favorite games.

"Yoona-ya… when was the last time you… drank?" She offers, and feels Yoona shiver. The protective urge surges within Kyujin, and she adjusts their surroundings immediately. She tugs up a blanket around them, a thick duvet that cocoons them in warmth that seeps deep into her bones. She'd already closed the door from earlier, allowing the darkness of the room to envelop them, the only light source being Yoona's monitor.

The older girl shuffles closer, though is still wound with tension. Her shoulders are hunched, and she presses the side of her head to Kyujin's chest, hearing for the younger girl's heartbeat, closing her eyes as the familiar rhythm as she sighs, shakily. The younger girl pulls her arms around her girlfriend, rubbing her back soothingly, and rests her chin atop Yoona's head. The older girl is like a block of ice that Kyujin is slowly melting, and she feels far too small and rigid in her grasp.

"Yoona… Unnie…" She mumbles, and Yoona sniffles.

"I… I know, but… but they taste…" Yoona's lip trembles, "They taste gross, I don't know how Haewon or Jiwoo stomach it, because I can't…" She whispers, glancing up at her girlfriend.

She expects a harsh stare, something tired. Kyujin's been busy all day, what need would she have to entertain Yoona's comments. Instead, she smiles, as tired as she is, and runs a hand through her girlfriend's hair. "Okay," she says, patient, "Then… Then why not tell me? I'm here to help you, unnie, you don't have to hide that from me."

Guilt stirs in Yoona's chest, and she glances away, pouting. "I… I know," she sighs, "I know… a-and that's the problem, Kkyu," she whispers, "You'd… You'd do anything for me. You look out for me no matter what, you're always there pick me up or remind me to eat. You'll deliver me lunch at work, you'll put up with my mother at family dinners—"

"You are way too harsh to your mom," Kyujin frowns, "That woman is lovely."

Yoona giggles and rolls her eyes, and the sight is more than enough to alleviate some of Kyujin's worries. "Even so… I know you, kitty, and I know what you'll do for me… that's why I was… scared."

It then hits Kyujin, and she sighs, "…You were scared about feeding from me, weren't you?" When Yoona ducks her head, and glances away, Kyujin has her answer, "Why?"

"Because…" she sighs, harsh, "It's selfish…" She pouts.

Kyujin runs another hand through Yoona's hair, smiling when her girlfriend finally glances up at her. "I don't mind…" She reminds her, and Yoona sighs, looking away.

"I…tedto...feed…myou…" Her whispers are faint, and Kyujin giggles.

"Unnie, I can't hear you~" She teases, and Yoona huffs.

"I…" She started, glancing away. Could Vampires blush? If they could, that was certainly something Yoona would've done in that moment, "I… wanted to feed… from you. Not… not from the vial."

Kyujin pauses, and Yoona looks away, "See, it was dumb, forget—"

"You can feed from me."

Yoona turns, glancing up at Kyujin, eyes wide. "I…"

"You can," she shrugs, a faint pink dusting on her cheeks, "I really don't mind unnie, honest."

The older girl begins to frown, before pouting, eyes glistening. Kyujin tightens her hold Yoona, and once again, she's reminded just how deprived of blood Yoona has been the past few days simply because she'd been too afraid to ask and Kyujin hadn't been considerate enough to make sure her girlfriend was feeding properly.

"But… But I'll hurt you…" She whispers, and Kyujin hums, sending vibrations through Yoona's body.

"So?" She answers, and giggles at how Yoona's brow furrows, "You… You mean so much to me, unnie," she shifts, tone softening as Yoona shifts in her arms, raising so that she was now staring into Kyujin's eyes at the same level, "I think about how much you give me, how complete you make everything feel, and… and to see you so hungry, so in pain," she emphasized, taking her girlfriend's hands into her own and offering a squeeze, "I… I'd rather feel a momentary nibble on my neck than make you live like that any longer."

Yoona sniffles, "Kkyu…"

"I'm serious," she tilts her neck up. as if to tempt Yoona, "Please, unnie…"

Her voice goes up a pitch, and Yoona's eyes darken for a moment. She recalls Lily's words, how when a vampire finds a human to feed from, a 'partner' if one were to say, then there was no concern about that partner turning into a vampire — just the reminder to not drink too much of their blood, less… complications arise. With startling strength, their positions change, and Yoona pushes Kyujin down into the bed, the younger girl giving a high and quiet yelp as she's now on her back, staring up at Yoona.

The older girl's hands are on Kyujin's shoulders, eyes flashing a deep crimson as she stares down at Kyujin's exposed neck, yet the younger girl's eyes could only remain on the older girl's lips. She watched Yoona lick them, her tongue darting out to wet them, and heat stirred in her chest. Yoona lowered, pressing herself into Kyujin's body, their legs tangled as the younger girl brought her arms up to snake around Yoona's waist.

She gave a quiet whimper as Yoona giggled, snaking up, and pressing her face to the side of Kyujin's neck. She didn't bite, not yet, instead simply letting the pulse of her girlfriend thud against her face, letting the steady tempo ground her. She sighed — being a vampire meant having senses stronger than most, it meant being able to smell the sweat of Kyujin's earlier dance practice, alongside the sweeter tones of the girl's perfume, of the fragrant scent of flowers and the earthly smell of her cooking. She sighed, rubbing her face against Kyujin's neck, before feeling a familiar tug on her teeth, her canines turning to fangs.

"Kkyu~ Kitty~" She sung, and could feel the younger girl shiver beneath her as the cold air of Yoona's breath rushed against her skin, "May…" Her voice softened, eyes flashing to their usual brown as she offered a shy smile, "May I… please… bite you?"

Kyujin, slowly, reached a hand up, petting the back of Yoona's head. "You… may, bite me," she heard another giggle, and swallowed, "Please." She rasped.

Yoona felt her teeth sharpen, and soon, she bit down into Kyujin's skin, lightly pricking. Kyujin's eyes shot open, mouth opening before she clamped a hand over it. It was… dizzying, nauseating and intoxicating all at once. Yes, there was the pain, god was there that pain, that sharp sting that cried out when Yoona's teeth bit into her neck. Some would think it too much, some would try removing Yoona immediately.

Yet, amidst it all, was something else. A cold chill passed over Kyujin's body as Yoona fed, every nerve ending ablaze and firing all sorts of conflicting messages. Something washed over her, a sensation she could never describe to anyone else. Her mind spun, every thought centering around the woman drinking her blood, consuming a part of her, turning what was once Kyujin's into something that was now hers — turning one thing into a new whole. Every time Yoona fed, all she was doing was merging the two of them closer together, literally taking a part of Kyujin and taking it into herself.

Perhaps that was why it all felt so dizzyingly good, why there was a strong hot warmth that flooded her chest and spasmed in her veins as much as the cold rushed along her skin. The pain never vanished, but it did change, it did blossom into a honeyed languor that made Kyujin's body feel both as though it were lead and as though she were drifting in the sky. A pulsating euphoria radiated from the puncture sight, traveling in warm waves along the carotid and down into her chest and finger tips.

The slow and steady draw from Yoona felt like a gentle pull on Kyujin’s very soul, drawing out the tension she hadn't realized she’d been carrying for years. Her muscles, once taut with a from her earlier practice, turned to liquid, leaving her heavy and boneless against the cool sheets. The bedroom walls seemed to bleed away into a soft, velvet darkness, leaving only the two of them. A white static clouded her mind, and she knew in that moment, she hadn't lost herself, but instead, felt her being become refined, distilled, whole.

It was an intimate alchemy, turning the bite into a golden, numbing unification of two people that made her fingers curl instinctively into Yoona’s hair, silently pleading for the moment to stretch into eternity.

Eventually, however, Yoona was satisfied, pulling back. She shook her head, watching the tiny puncture marks on Kyujin's neck already begin to slowly repair themselves, eventually to two small dark dots that would eventually heal and disappear with time. For now, though she watched as Kyujin's eyes fluttered open and close, and her words slurred slightly from exhaustion, though the dopey smile on her face told Yoona everything. Still, the concern won out, and she sighed.

"Thank you..." she smiled, pressing a kiss to Kyujin's forehead. "My love."

She helped set Kyujin against the pillows, tucking the duvet over her girlfriend. She stepped over and away, though not before Kyujin's hand shot out, weakly gripping Yoona's wrist. The now-refreshed Vampire glanced down at the hand, eyes trailing back to find the frown on Kyujin's face, the girl giving a wordless whine as Yoona chuckled. She pressed a hand to Kyujin's damp forehead, sighing.

"Jagiya… Kitty…" she giggled, "You're so tired now… let me take care of you, hm?"

"Want… you…" she pouted, "Want… cuddles…" She mumbled, voice turning small, and Yoona's heart nearly exploded then and there.

She hummed, "We'll cuddle for the rest of eternity," she smiled, "But for now, I need to look after you, okay?"

Kyujin frowned, but didn't stop Yoona. With the strength returning to her limbs, she hands Kyujin the glass of water and some painkillers. She helps tip the water into Kyujin's throat, ensuring the younger girl swallowed the medication and her fluids. She then picked up Kyujin's bowl, assuming it to be the one where the meat was actually cooked, and pulls her gaming chair closer to the side of their bed.

Yoona blew gently on a spoonful of the hearty broth, the steam curling between them like a localized fog. "Come on, Kitty. Just a bit of this," she coaxed, guiding the spoon to Kyujin’s lips. Kyujin took it, the warmth of the savory liquid grounding her senses, though her eyes remained fixed on the secondary bowl sitting on the desk.

"You… too," Kyujin rasped, her hand reaching out to weakly poke at Yoona’s arm. "Made it… for both of us. Eat."

Yoona chuckled, the sound vibrating low in her chest. She didn't exactly need the nutrients of a beef stew, but she knew better than to argue with a stubborn, recovering Kyujin. "Always so bossy, even when you can barely sit up," she teased, taking a deliberate, elegant bite from her own bowl. She hummed in genuine appreciation — Kyujin really did have a gift for seasoning. "It’s perfect. Satisfied?"

Kyujin offered a tiny, tired smile before finishing a few more bites. Once the bowls were set aside, Yoona didn't waste a second, turning off her monitor and looking back at their bed. She slid under the duvet, the cool silk of her skin meeting the lingering heat of Kyujin’s body. The transition was seamless. Kyujin immediately gravitated toward the cold, tucking her head into the hollow of Yoona’s shoulder with a contented sigh, wrapping her arms around her girlfriend's neck, offering a giddy giggle.

"Thank you," Yoona whispered, her arms winding securely around her girlfriend, "for always looking out for me."

"'Course…" Kyujin whispers into the dark. Her breathing steadies, and Yoona thinks she's about to fall asleep, when she hears Kyujin speak.

"Love you…"

Yoona grins.

"I love you too, kitty."

Notes:

WELLL WHAT DID WE THINK?? pls leave a comment they give me life

So, I did have a little fun with vampire lore here, basically just picked and chose what I wanted to use and what I didn't. Definitely might write more oneshots set in this verse but for now this will do. Haely in the background because they are dear to me, and if you like bae/jiwoo then they are also real in this au. Writing Yoona to say kitty did make me cringe a little because... well... discord mod... BUTTTT its kinda cute and also accurate so. wanted to write that in for my first jjangahz fic. i also am obsessed with the whole "looking after someone who forgets to look after themselves" so. wanted to emphasise that. anyways if u like nmixx and u also like triples, i have. a lot of those if u wanna read. but also i may write jjangahz and/or haely in the future we will see hehe.
