It was no surprise to Thomas when Saparata told him he was inlove with Fluixon.
Saparata spends his days longingly staring at Flux, or talking his mouth off to him.
Flux never seemed to mind, even tolerating him a lot a longer than he would any other person, including Thomas.
And that was hard to accomplish, especially since he and Flux have been attached at the hip ever since they met and decided they can and will become the bestest of friends.
He was surprised to see Flux willingly allowing himself to be dragged around campus by Saps, considering he only ever let Thomas do this without getting mad.
He didn't get why he felt his stomach drop when he saw Flux even smiling slightly as Saps bought him a coffee, both of them sitting down on a bench.
He knows why now, though.
'I'm inlove with Flux,' Thomas realized one day, while listening to Saps talk his mouth off while ranting about how cute Flux was, and how he kept getting mixed signals from him.
When did this start? How and when did he fall inlove with Fluixon? Saparata's crush since the fifth month of their first year of highschool? Flux was only supposed to be his best friend. He can't date Flux knowing Saps likes Flux.
No. He won't take this from Saps. He's already had his heart broken in the past before when he tried to move on from Flux. When Saps told him he still loved Flux despite dating Turntapp, he knew Saps was helpless. For Flux.
For Saps' sake, he will ignore how he too, is helpless for the same man.
Thomas has many friends. Many of them he considers his best friends.
But Fluixon and Saparata are his best friends.
'He used to love me too,' Thomas thought bitterly.
During their second year in highschool, Fluixon had confessed to him. Thomas rejected Flux for Saps' sake, ignoring how his heart starting beating faster when Flux told him he loved him.
He thought it was because he felt sorry for Saps. Now, he knows it was because he wanted to reciprocate Flux's love. He loved him the same way Flux loved him.
Deep in his heart, he knew he couldn't do that. Not with Saps watching from across the hallway. He couldn't let Saps' heart break just so he could be happy. Thomas is not a selfish person.
So, he rejected Flux. He comforted both Saps and Flux, and eventually, Flux moved on. Thomas knew the exact day Flux fell inlove with Saps Saparata.
It was prom night. Saps and Flux both didn't have a date, and Saps jokingly — "Nope, I definitely didn't try to ask him because I wanted to flirt with him!" Saps tried to defend himself weakly afterwards — asked Flux to be his partner. Flux accepted.
Thomas saw the way Saps internally celebrated that his longtime crush and best friend accepted his request to be partners for the night, how his ears turned red.
Thomas saw the way Flux looked surprised himself that he accepted, the way Flux got flustered in a way Thomas could never make him when Saps led him to dance.
Thomas saw the way they looked at eachother. He saw the way Flux's face flushed when Saps insisted he would lead their dance. He saw the way Saps was absolutely giddy when he saw Flux's ears turn pink. He saw the way Saps looked ecstatic when the host announced he and Flux won couple of the night. He saw the way Flux didn't mind at all when Saps insisted they go on stage to give a speech or something.
Most importantly, he saw Flux genuinely happy with Saps. Happy in a way Thomas could never make him after he rejected Flux's confession back then. He saw how Saps' eyes softened for Flux every single goddamn time they talked.
"I'm planning to confess to Flux today. After I bring him out to the flower shop then that scenic route in the park." Saps grinned at Thomas.
They were in their second year of college now. Yet, nothing seems to have changed with Saps' gigantic crush on Flux.
The way Flux has become head over heels for Saps is undeniable now. Saps has only fallen harder for Flux over the past few years.
Saps and Flux became attached to the hip, just as Thomas used to be with Flux. Used to. That's all he was now. A silly old crush Flux had in highschool. They've matured a lot since then.
Thomas is still as smitten as he was in highschool for Flux. Some part of him, deep inside and hidden away, tells him to tell Saps to fuck off. To tell Saps he loved Flux, probably longer than Saps has.
But the moment he spots that lovesick look in Saps' eyes, the bitterness dies down in his throat. Thomas swallowed his want to be selfish for once and schools his expression into a teasing smile. "Finally gonna tell him your undying love after what, years of pining?" He had teased.
"Ooookay, man, that's enough." Saps laughed, shaking his head. "You think really think Flux likes me back, though?"
Thomas scoffs at that, masking it as a playful one and prays to the gods that it doesn't sound as bitter as Thomas wanted it to be. "Likes? He loves you, Saps. I'm sure you love him just as much, maybe even more."
Saps just smiles brighter at him, "Thanks, Thomas. You're the best. I'm gonna go meet up with Flux, now! Wish me luck!"
As soon as Saps is out of sight, Thomas' smile drops. He sighs, trying to stay enthusiastic. Atleast his friends are happy. That's all that matters.
Thomas remembers the first time he met Flux. He remembers that day like it was yesterday, he remembers what he wore that morning, what music his father was listening to, what his mother cooked for breakfast.
It was his first year of highschool. He'd just moved from Canada, and he had absolutely no friends.
Yet, he still managed to bag friends left and right, but more importantly — he spotted another transferee approaching him. The guy was shorter than Thomas, with raven black hair and amethyst sharp eyes.
"Hello, my name is Fluixon. What's yours?" Fluixon asked, greeting him with a charming smile.
Thomas freezes for a second, enamored by Fluixon's smile. "...Thomas. My name's Thomas."
"You don't look like you're from here." Fluixon comments absentmindedly.
Thomas blinks, "Uh, yeah. I just moved from Canada."
Fluixon's eyes light up with understanding, nodding. "Oh, makes sense. I just moved too, from New Zealand."
"Ah, no wonder. So, Fluixon, why'd you approach me?" Thomas asks.
"You seemed nice, and the most competent out of everyone in this school. Look nice too," Fluixon mumbles the last part to himself.
Thomas freezes for the second time that day, Is he flirting with me? "Well, Fluixon, wanna be friends?"
"Flux. My friends used to call me Flux, and since you're asking to be my friend, you can call me Flux too." Fluix— no, Flux says politely.
"Alright, Flux, do you wanna explore the school while we still have time?"
Flux nodded, and started leading the way around despite the both of them not knowing their way around the school.
Little did they know, a lifelong why couldn't it have been anything more? friendship would start blooming right then and there.
If there's one thing about Thomas, he knows Saps like the back of his hand. There is no person who can be as trusting or as kind as Saps Saparata.
Thomas met Saps when Flux introduced him a month into the school year.
Saps was the complete opposite of Flux — Albino white hair, golden eyes, extroverted at heart — and yet they still managed to become friends.
"Hey! I'm Saparata, but most people call me Saps. Me and Flux got partnered up for a project two weeks ago and we've been friends since then." Saps beams at him.
"I'm Thomas. I've been friends with Flux since the first day or something? It's nice to meet you!" Thomas matches the energy, smiling right back at him.
Thomas didn't know it yet, but Saps was slowly but surely falling inlove with Flux. He didn't know it yet, but he too, was inlove with Flux.
He found out Saps liked Flux second year highschool. Right before Flux confessed bus love to Thomas.
'It isn't right, I can't just take Flux all for myself when Saps is right there. Saps is kind. Saps is trusting. Saps is understanding. Saps knows how Flux is, and can take so much better care of him.' Thomas had thought absentmindedly.
Oh, how he regrets that so much more nowadays.
Thomas regrets every single fiber in his body that allowed him to let Saps take Flux.
Both of them had posted a picture of eachother the day they started dating, hard launching their newfound relationship.
Their friends had all commented congratulating them, for finally getting their heads out of their asses.
Thomas was no different, commenting that he'd been their wingman for years trying to set them up, as if he didn't want Flux to be his and was only holding it all together just so both Saps and Flux can be happy.
He regrets that day so much. He regrets ever asking Saps who he liked, he regrets rejecting Flux's confession, he regrets setting them up, he regrets everything.
He despises his inability to move on. Saps and Flux usually hung out with him so he's been forced to third wheel.
Thomas tries his best to be happy for them, he really is. It's just his heart aches so badly whenever he saw Flux smiling at Saps like he cured cancer. His heart aches whenever he even catches a glance of them hugging and whispering sweet nothings to eachother when they think nobody's looking.
His heart aches when he seems them together. Thomas' heart never stopped aching the moment Saps Saparata told him that he liked Fluixon Aculon.
He doesn't think it will ever stop until the day he dies, and he doesn't know if he's okay with that.
But seeing Flux cry happy tears when Saps proposed to him after just a year of dating? Thomas almost broke.
'Get yourself together, Thomas. You can be a little selfish next time.' Thomas thought to himself.
