That's Payback Baby

Summary:

Life in your new house in the burbs' is silent, serene, peaceful...until someone ruins it.

Notes:

I haven't written anything in so long so this is awful but like kind of sweet? Just noticed it was a tad bit barren in the sweet one-shot space with Langdon, thought I'd throw something out there just to be generous :p
Please enjoy and leave any and all thoughts in the comments, I'm begging for some constructive criticism 🙏
Lots of looveee - Campy

Work Text:

The morning light shone in little stripes through the curtains in your shared room, a testament to a new beautiful morning. The sun peaked through the curtains welcoming in the new day. The house was quiet, but outside you could hear the soft sounds of nature. Birds chirping, the sound of trees swaying in the wind, frogs and toads croaking in the tall grass by the pond just outside the window.

Your eyes opened in the glow of the early morning hours, the temperature in the room just right despite the heat you were sure was sweltering outside. You sighed and stretched your arms out in front of you before settling them under your head. It was so peaceful, the beautiful sound of noth-

That fucking asshole.

You turned your body around to find your husband sleeping soundly, blissfully unaware of the peace he was disturbing. Your face contorted into a grimace, eyebrows furrowing and creasing your forehead. You looked to your right, a soft pillow covered by a light blue pillow case. And to your left, a perfect target.

Before you could think you were fisting the pillow and it was colliding with your husband's face.

“Ow!” Frank sat up and rubbed his face, probably still half asleep, but his eyes searched for where the assault on his beauty sleep was sourced. His eyes locked on you, pillow still in hand, scrunched up face, messy hair.

His beautiful wife had woken him from his precious time to sleep in, and for what?
“Babe, why did you do that?” He asked incredulously.

“You snore, and I was trying to enjoy the serene sounds of nature.” He sighed and rubbed his eyes, trying to piece together your logic.
“Honey, you could have just given me a little shake, I would have woken up.”

You rolled your eyes at him, staring out the window.
“As if, you sleep like a rock, a hurricane sweeping through the house couldn’t wake you.” You sat against the headboard, arms crossed, scowl still ever present on your face. Frank drew his eyes over the soft features of your face. The curve of your chin, your delicate lashes framing your ethereal eyes. They looked so pretty in the light of the morning.

He laid back down against his pillow and dragged an arm around you, pulling you towards him. You grumbled and mumbled something under your breath about the importance of silence and solitude, but you didn’t put up a fight to get back under the covers.

Frank’s arm encircled your torso and pulled you close to him, his chin resting on your shoulder.
“See, no need for violence, we can have a nice quiet morning without it.” He peppered little kisses along your neck and jaw, eliciting a giggle from you as you held his arm around you, drawing little patterns into his forearm.

It was too late to notice his other arm was not around you until your pillow was being pulled from under your head and slammed back down into your face. Your face was slack with shock, how could he do such a thing!?

You threw the pillow aside to find your husband laughing uncontrollably at your little angry face.
“Frank!”

He covered his smiling face with a hand and stifled his laughter, snickers still managing to find their way to your ears.
He dropped his hand and smiled that big goofy grin, looking at you with all the love in the world.
“That’s payback baby, and you just got slammed.”

Your mouth formed an ‘O’ in mock surprise, your hand finding your chest as if you’d been wounded. However no matter what, you could never stay mad - even fake mad - at your husband. Your shock soon melted into a smile as you tackled him back onto the bed, feeling the warmth of his skin beneath yours. He tucked your hair out of your face and leaned in for the sweetest kiss you’d had all day - though technically your day had only just begun. He rubbed up and down the smooth skin of your back, only stopping to roll over onto your side and snuggle closer into you.

And once again it was beautifully silent and serene. Until…
“Y’know, I thought moving out of the city would make you less of a dick, but it seems to have turned you into a solitude monster.”
You shot up in bed, sending him a glare and pulling the covers off. You slipped of the sheets and onto the solid floor, making a point to slap your feet on the hard wood as you marched away.

“Babbeee, I was just kidding, come back!” And soon Frank followed behind you, jogging to catch up with you down the hall. Just two weeks in the burbs’ had turned you into a grumpy old married couple. You couldn’t wait to do it forever in your perfect little not-so-quiet home.

Me writing this on my way to stop Robby from going on sabbatical because I've genuinely owed Whitaker a favor since 2016
