Summary:

to ahn keonho, anything was attainable if you had the right mentality and skillset.

at least, he always thought so until he stumbled upon the most precious, impossible thing of all.

Notes:

hello! i’ve been working on this for a moment now and am so pleased to have it completed. it will actually be chaptered eventually (or a series?), but first i have another project to finish so it will be a moment before the next parts come out. please enjoy, comments and kudos are always appreciated! <3

and if you’re wondering, yes, keonho’s character is inspired by flynn rider from tangled, lmao.

Work Text:

“would you quit moving around so much?”

“well maybe if you weren’t literally stepping on my face, jackass.”

the light banter echoed out within the still night, hisses and whispers of ‘be quiet’ immediately following the conversation as the two thieves both realized how loud they sounded in the eerie quiet of the courtyard. they were used to stealing from the upper class of the town—rich delicacies they’d feast on gleefully and share with the poor; rare, valuable fabrics they’d find to sell to the night market—but this?

the castle of the east kingdom?

now this was new.

lead alpha ahn keonho had gotten word from an insider that there would be less guards on the structure as the royal family had traveled out of the area for the week. it wasn’t often that events like this took place and so he knew they had to strike while they could, despite the hesitation from his crew. because as soon as he’d heard the words, diamonds and jewels appeared in keonho’s eyes. it would be perfect.

this was what brought keonho and his righthand man, alpha eom seonghyeon, to be standing just outside of the castle walls, hidden in shadow. keonho stood on seonghyeon’s shoulders, the other’s hands tight around his ankles, while he grappled aimlessly for the vines that were just out of reach. the balance was completely off, and keonho knew he was about to go toppling to the ground.

but then,

his fingers tangled within a secured clump of vine and his boot found leverage enough to finally pull himself up further.

seonghyeon hissed out as keonho had pushed off of him, landing hard on the ground as he watched the leader climb, but a grin immediately appeared on his lips and he cheered quietly when keonho scaled the wall with a stealth only found among their kind.

“remember not to waste too much time,” seonghyeon called out, glancing down each side of the wall, “and don’t forget where you went in at!”

“yeah, yeah,” keonho muttered. they may have had their roles within the crew, but at the end of the day seonghyeon and keonho were more like brothers than anything else and would act accordingly, much to the amusement of the rest of the crew.

keonho climbed until he’d made it to a balcony, and gave a smile and salute to seonghyeon below, before hauling his weight over the stone railing. he landed carefully, worn leather boots quiet upon stone flooring as he took in his surroundings.

an elegant set of glass doors was left open on the balcony, cool night air flowing into what appeared to be a lavish bedroom, and in return a sweet, mouth-watering scent of wildberries flooded the small balcony from the room.

keonho’s eyes closed as the smell wrapped around him, his head unexpectedly dizzy at the potency, and when he opened his eyes once again his pupils were blown wide while a deep rumble resonated within his chest. he’d never smelled anything like it before, yet his alpha felt that there was still something so familiar about it.

he shook his head from the spell, and stepped towards the doors, stopping just to the side of them and glancing around the edge to survey the room: it was spacious, as keonho expected every room in the castle to be, with a fireplace crackling on the far wall; a large canopy bed faced directly across from it, plush maroon blankets bunched up as if someone had just recently gotten up from there.

(keonho couldn’t help but notice the wildberry scent was strongest there.)

but it was the large vanity in the corner that caught keonho’s eye: a small chest sat on the surface just in front of the mirror, lid propped open from a piece of jewelry that hung out from it. firelight glinted off the red ruby and the alpha could only imagine how much value that entire chest held.

this is way too easy, keonho thought, but he wasn’t about to look a gift horse in the mouth. perhaps fate was just finally realizing that he deserved a goddamn break.

keonho waited a few more minutes, deeming that the coast was clear for the time being, and quietly made his way inside the grand room. a warmth instantly enveloped him, and to his surprise, an unexpected calm stole the weight from his shoulders. the scent was doing something to him mentally, he realized that quickly enough, but he had no clue as to why.

it almost felt like a trap.

instinctively, keonho’s hand reached for the dagger sheathed at his waist within the brown leather belt. he merely needed to feel its weight and outline, a reassurance falling over him, and slid his hand away after knowing it was there. he knew that the pathetic little blade would hardly keep up against an actual set of guards but it was the comfort of the weapon, really.

if there was anything to know about ahn keonho, it was that he would die fighting before ever surrendering to anyone. the alpha was a street rat through and through and he’d be the first one to admit it.

a particularly loud pop from the fireplace had keonho’s gaze snapping towards it. he wasn’t scared, but attentive, taking in every stray sound. his mind was already detailing the layout of the entire space as well, noting anything that may be useful.

he carefully walked backwards and glanced up at the tall, vaulted ceilings, the intricate green and blue pattern painted there mesmerizing and beautiful. it was completely opposite of the cracked and spider-webbed ceiling he’d stared up at every single night of his childhood. the nights that were spent dreaming of something better, something more.

the click of a door broke him from the trance,

someone was here,

and keonho whipped around toward the sound only to smack directly into the individual.

the speed and weight in which the alpha had sharply turned around at had the two of them slipping and crashing to the floor in a heap of tangled limbs, steam and a warm vanilla aroma rolling out from what keonho realized to be a bathroom. his hands reached out aimlessly to stop himself from falling completely on top of the other and palms hit the ground hard to keep his full weight from slamming down.

keonho froze when he was finally able to focus, arms on either side of the person’s head, and the wildberry scent hit him like a tidal wave.

it was an omega.

no, it was the prince.

the omega’s hazelnut eyes were wide, chest rising and falling in a stuttered panic, while the enticing scent suddenly turned acrid—sour and rotten. and keonho could tell that the prince was about to scream, to yell for guards or an attendant or someone.

keonho’s hand flew to the omega’s mouth before any sound could escape, grip firm but careful in a way that assured he wouldn’t hurt the prince, and he shifted his weight up onto his knees, “shhh, i’m not here to hurt you, i swear.” he realized how stupid that sounded when he was literally on top of the omega, as well as the fact that—

the alpha’s eyes trailed down, taking in the state of the omega.

a sheer, cream colored robe was the only thing that he wore, the sash tied loosely at a thin waist and covering his most intimate parts. but the rest of the prince: a trembling shoulder bare from where the robe had fallen down; sharp collarbones; a chest tinged pink from the hot water; and long, delicate pale legs, were all sinfully on display.

“wow, you’re—,” keonho’s eyes trailed back up the line of the omega, gaze stopping on his face, “beautiful.” his voice was gentle as he spoke, as if some instinctual part of him was afraid of scaring the other, and he couldn’t help but notice the few stray droplets of water that still lingered within the dip of the omega’s throat.

the narrowed eyes that were fixed on keonho softened for just a moment, until a hand came up to knock away keonho’s that still covered his mouth, “and you’re a pervert, get off of me.”

the alpha sat back immediately, ready to bolt if the prince yelled out, but the omega only scooted back towards the bathroom door once he was able to sit up, eyes never leaving keonho.

they stared at one another for a moment, transfixed by a mixture of fear and awe.

“who are you?”

keonho watched as the prince’s eyes flicked down the frame of his body as he stood up, and a smirk immediately came to his lips, his alpha grumbling in pride within his chest. it’s not like his outfit was anything of extravagance: a white tunic with the sleeves rolled to the elbows, dark blue vest over top of that with a simple pair of walnut brown working trousers.

“you’re not yelling for help,” keonho stated instead of answering the question.

“…you don’t come across as threatening,” the omega answered carefully, as if he were second guessing his decision.

“that seems incredibly irresponsible, you’re a prince.”

“e-excuse me?” the prince spluttered, caught off guard by the sheer boldness of the intruder. his cheeks had turned red, annoyance falling over him like a sudden mist, “who do you think you are?”

keonho grinned, holding out a hand to the omega crouched on the floor still, “ahn keonho, darling.”

the prince looked as if he were ready to kick the alpha off of the balcony, apparently not a big fan of the term of endearment at all, and completely ignored the hand held out towards him as he stood up on his own. his arms were wrapped tight around his slim torso, holding the robe shut and attempting to show as little skin as possible.

“and exactly why are you in my room, ahn keonho?”

keonho glanced around, a hand coming up to scratch at his head as he admitted, “you actually weren’t supposed to be here.”

he was met with a confused look, seconds passing before it smoothed out into understanding, “the royal family trip, you thought i would be on it too.” the omega’s face became suspicious as he looked keonho up and down once more, “you’re a thief, aren’t you?”

what?” keonho pretended to sound offended, “of course not.”

the prince didn’t look convinced, eyes narrowed.

“listen, i would love to chat, your majesty. but i’m not going to lie your outfit is a little distracting and i am but a simple man,” keonho smiled sheepishly, his eyes flicking down once more to the long pale legs that looked so soft, his hands itching to touch and grip; maybe even going so far as to imagine what those legs would look and feel like wrapped around his waist while he—

“martin.”

“what?”

“my name,” the prince bit out, “do not even start with any of that ‘your majesty’ crap.”

“see, now that just sounds disrespectful to call—,” the slam of the bathroom door cut keonho off before he could even finish, and he couldn’t stop the smile that graced his lips at how much he was getting underneath the omega’s skin. it wasn’t his fault that sassy omegas seemed to flock to him.

a silence fell over the large space, and keonho gave a sly glance to the closed door before stepping over towards the vanity.

the surface was a controlled mess: a few makeup items such as concealers and lip balms sitting just in front of the mirror while exquisite bracelets, necklaces and a stray hairbrush lay scattered randomly. keonho’s eyes easily found the decorative chest again, the delicate chain with the ruby shining in just the right way that felt as if it were teasing the alpha.

keonho reached a hand towards it—

the rattle of the bathroom room door sounded,

—and the alpha casually brought his hand back up to sift through the tresses of his dark, thick messy hair, a low whistle on his lips while he turned back towards the door with a forced grin.

the expression fell to that of subtle awe again at the sight of the omega.

this time the prince wore a large, grey knit sweater. the collar of it was stretched out, and hung just enough on the edge of a shoulder to show the dip of a collarbone; the sleeves were long and wide, completely engulfing his hands; and the length of the torso went all the way to his thighs. beneath that, were still the long pale and bare legs that had keonho nearly salivating since the moment he’d seen them.

keonho watched as the omega climbed onto the bed, the sweater rising just enough to give a peak of the baby blue shorts underneath. it was probably for the best that keonho had seen them, otherwise his alpha may have gone insane at the idea of the prince wearing nothing but an oversized sweater that looked way too easy to slip out of.

the prince’s shorter blonde hair stuck up in every which way, the longer strands falling onto his forehead. and he regarded keonho warily, pulling his long legs up onto the bed and situating them beneath himself as he pulled a pillow into his lap to hug onto—a worn bunny stuffed animal was uncovered beneath the pillow, an ear torn but otherwise fully intact.

keonho couldn’t help but smile gently at just how cute the sight of the plush was in the omega’s bed. it looked to have been through many, many years of love.

“you are still here,” martin noted.

“are you surprised that i am?”

“no, not really… though i did think you were smarter than that.”

keonho laughed, hands in his pockets as he began to stroll towards the fireplace, “what makes you say that?”

martin’s fingers absentmindedly picked at a loose thread on the pillow as he spoke, “i could have locked myself in the bathroom and called for guards, you know. and what would you have done then, jumped off the balcony?”

keonho had to stop the bark of laughter that threatened to escape. because yes, that’s exactly what he would have done. but he couldn’t let the prince know that that was actually how he had gotten into the room in the first place—lest he compromise the one good entrance that he and his crew had into the castle. a toothy smile appeared instead, “but you didn’t.”

the thoughtful frown that came to martin’s lips was cute, almost a pout, “no… probably a terrible decision, too.”

“oh, absolutely.”

keonho’s alpha yipped happily at the small smile that came to martin’s lips, watching as the omega’s eyes dropped down to the pillow. “so, tell me,” keonho stopped to grab at the poker and playfully jab at the fire, “why didn’t you go on the family vacation?”

martin immediately scoffed, “vacation? yeah, right…” the tension that settled over him was noticeable from miles away, “not much of a vacation when all you’re doing is being paraded around in hopes that the richest kingdom will court you.”

“first world problems of a prince, huh?” there was the slightest bite in keonho’s tone.

regardless of how attractive he found the prince, keonho couldn’t deny the two completely different worlds that they were from—one born into royalty, having everything handed to him; and the other, born into poverty and having to fight for everything.

“must be rough, wealthy kingdoms fighting over you while you sit in your pretty little castle and cry,” keonho continued to say carelessly, stabbing the poker into the fire with an unexpected aggression, an almost cruel smirk on his lips.

the silence was loud amongst the pops and crackles of the fire, and keonho finally looked back towards the bed, the sight instantly causing his alpha to whimper within his chest, ears flat in regret.

martin’s expression was as cold as ice, jaw tensed, though a glaze over his eyes gave away that there was more emotion there than he let on. “you’re right. …i should be thankful that some alpha of royalty will be allowed to take me away from my family and everything i’ve ever known.” his voice of steel grew shakier as he continued, “and then use and pup me against my own will until a desirable heir is born, all the while i get no say in literally anything.”

the one thing that everyone knew about keonho, without a doubt, was that he would never be silenced. that he would never be afraid to bite back at someone, even when he knew it was the most foolish thing he could possibly do. and that most importantly, he would never regret doing so.

ahn keonho did not regret things.

but this? after seeing the look in martin’s eyes, he realized that he wished he wouldn’t have said what he did so quickly and without thought. the omega may have been a prince, but just as was the same with keonho, he did not choose to be born into this life.

keonho felt as if he had been slapped across the face.

“i mean, it can’t be—,”

“you should leave.” martin’s voice was final, adamant in the way that it no longer wanted the alpha’s presence.

keonho paused, setting the fire iron back before he turned fully towards the prince, “i’m sorry. that was…insensitive of me to say.” he cleared his throat and began to make his way back towards the bed, footsteps slow and calculated.

immediately, he noticed the way that martin moved further back on the bed, hands fisted within the comforter and pulling it close as if that could somehow protect him. his body language was tense, the warm wildberry scent slowly turning sour once again as his narrowed eyes tracked the alpha.

“okay,” keonho said softly, holding his hands out in a gentle placating manner, “i’ll go.”

and so he did.

with one last longing look back at the vanity where the jewel lay, keonho walked back out onto the balcony and found the same spot he’d came up on. down below, the courtyard was empty, and keonho assumed that seonghyeon had found a spot to be less conspicuous in while he waited for the lead alpha’s return. he hoped so, at least.

keonho tried to peek back in at the prince but the bed was completely out of sight, and so he crawled back over the railing without another glance at the beautiful omega.

except he didn’t jump back down.

instead, the alpha crawled down just enough until he was underneath the balcony, clinging easily onto the vines that grew fruitfully there. if he had to wait for the prince to either fall asleep or leave, then he would. but keonho was a thief and he would not go back empty-handed.

it didn’t take long for keonho’s ears to perk up at the sound of footsteps up on the balcony. a small part of him had hoped that the omega would come looking after him, though it wouldn’t have surprised him if the prince had went straight to the guards either.

carefully, keonho crawled up just enough to peak through the stone railing.

martin stood there, perplexed, eyes sweeping left and right before he went to peer over the opposite side of the railing, hands resting on the cold stone as he leaned forward as far as he could. the over-sized sweater bunched up from the angle, the baby blue shorts rising dangerously higher on bare thighs and keonho was looking respectfully.

by the time the prince righted his frame and stepped back, keonho had climbed back up the railing with all the grace of a sleek, midnight alley cat and was propped nonchalantly on the railing. one leg hung over the edge to steady himself while the other was bent atop the ledge. he leaned back against the castle wall as he eyed the omega, arms crossed over his chest and a gleeful smirk on his lips.

“i knew you didn’t actually want me to go.”

the hitch of breath was loud in the quiet of the night, martin’s head snapping toward the voice as his hand came up to press against his chest from the scare. “what the fuck,” he immediately hissed out, attempting to regain his composure.

keonho smiled, “sorry. i seem to keep doing that, scaring you.”

“you didn’t scare me,” martin was quick to defend.

really?” keonho’s eyebrows rose in faux surprise, “you just, always give everyone that reaction then upon first seeing them?”

“no. you… surprised me, is all.”

keonho hummed noncommitally, “of course. princes don’t get scared, right?” he couldn’t stop the small laugh that escaped at the glare that martin shot his way.

“how did you—,” martin looked up along the walls of the castle as he spoke, as if the answer was somewhere up there, “—do that?”

“do what?” keonho was an expert at playing dumb when the occasion called for it.

“one moment you were gone and then the next, you were just, there.”

“i’m a thief, darling,” was the only answer keonho gave, as it was answer enough. he knew the term of endearment would get martin heated, and sure enough another glare was sent towards him that had his alpha growling playfully deep within.

“stop calling me that.”

“so sorry, your highness.”

martin bristled—if he had ears atop his head and a tail on his backside, they would be flat and sticking straight up, respectively—he looked as if he were wholeheartedly regretting coming and looking for the alpha. “i’m going to push you off this balcony,” the omega threatened, not unlike a disgruntled pup.

“oh, please, allow me,” keonho teased, and rolled off the side himself.

“keonho!” the yelp that martin let out in alarm was truly endearing, and as keonho easily caught onto the vines and clung to them like a spider, he couldn’t deny that he was actually enjoying teasing the omega like this. his own alpha was deeply enjoying the attention and worry as well—a part of him he’d never seemed able to appease no matter how many omegas he flirted with and bedded.

he popped his head back up over the side just in time to see the worried look on martin’s face as the omega stopped short of the railing.

“as much as i love to see you concerned for my wellbeing, i do think you’re going to alert the guards if you keep yelling like that,” keonho joked lightly, though the wince he accompanied with the words was proof enough that it wasn’t just a joke.

martin stared at the alpha as if he were crazy, which, he was. but there was something deeper there too that keonho hadn’t noticed until just now, something he dared not question or even entertain the idea of. this was the prince, after all.

“you’re gonna hurt yourself, idiot,” martin replied, voice quieter now. and even though keonho clearly didn’t need it, martin stepped closer to help the alpha back over the railing and safely onto the balcony. his hands ghosted the broad shoulders, suddenly aware of the muscle beneath as he pulled until they both stumbled back into the castle wall.

keonho rose his arms up to steady and catch himself, hands pressed against the wall on either side of martin’s torso as the omega had fallen back against the stone. the alpha chuckled, “weird how this is the second time this night we’ve ended up like this, huh?” his gaze caressed down martin’s face, stopping pointedly at the soft, slightly parted pink lips.

a deep blush coated the omega’s cheeks, chest rising and falling not in fear this time from their position, but an unspoken anticipation. warm hazelnut eyes trailed along the alpha’s face, mapping out the thick dark eyebrows, the defined bridge of a nose, and the light dusting of stubble that ran along the alpha’s sharp jawline.

“why do you keep looking at me like that?” keonho murmured once their eyes finally met. he’d noticed it earlier within the room, the way that martin’s eyes had scanned over the full line of his body as if he were something exotic, something forbidden.

martin swallowed and looked away, staring at some various point in the distance for a moment before he brought his gaze back and admitted so softly, “i’ve never met an alpha from outside of the castle before. the way you look… it, surprises me.”

“and why’s that?”

the blush deepened, but martin made sure to look directly into the alpha’s eyes, “you’re very handsome.”

keonho’s eyebrows rose in surprise. he hadn’t expected the prince to be so straightforward, not with that  sweet cherry color on his cheeks and ears. but he was pleased, so pleased in fact that he was afraid his alpha would start purring from the compliment if he dared let it.

“let me guess,” keonho started, lips pursing in thought, “they tell you we are all ugly brutish monsters with no self control? hm… i guess they’re kind of right.” he’d been about to continue but the giggle that came from the omega had keonho’s eyes lighting up in glee, his words faltering from the sweet sound he’d caused. this is not a good idea, a voice tried to whisper, presumably seonghyeon’s.

“i’m sorry, did you just—did you laugh?” keonho teased, “after threatening to push me off the balcony not once, but twice?”

the smile that pulled at martin’s lips was devastatingly beautiful, wide and genuine, so different from the way he looked when out with the royal family—stoic, closed off, lost—the only times keonho had ever actually caught a glimpse of the omega. keonho’s heart did something in his chest at this new sight.

martin rolled his eyes at the teasing, but a smile stayed, “only laughing at you… but yes, the stories were, something along the lines of that.”

“…and i’m assuming this is the part in the story where the big bad alpha is supposed to take away the pretty omega to his evil lair and ravish him?” keonho’s words were quiet as he spoke, his breath ghosting across the omega’s lips from how close they remained from one another. the look within his eyes told a different story however, of just how intensely a desire had begun to pool within the pit of his stomach.

and a miniscule shudder ran down the line of martin’s body from the look, hardly noticeable unless one was as close as keonho was. the omega couldn’t help but respond in such a way, as the desire and need was fully mutual.

the alpha’s pupils dilated, nostrils flaring at the sweet dizzying scent that curled around the two. if keonho didn’t keep his head on straight, he would take the omega right then and there on the balcony if allowed. no doubt that action would put a pretty price on his head.

“prince martin?”

instinctively, and without even a flicker of thought, keonho pressed himself up against the omega, his torso firmly covering the lithe body still caged between his arms. protect, his alpha had growled, mine. as if the individual now in the room were a threat.

the unexpected voice was followed aptly by the closing of a door just within the bedroom, and then loud, quick footsteps, “your highness?”

and as if breaking from a trance, martin quickly shoved keonho back, heartbeat still racing from the proximity. “hide,” he whispered, and pushed keonho towards the vines of the railing from which he’d came.

martin could see the way that the alpha wanted to fight the command, an evident hurt at being pushed away within those dark, liquid-night eyes and he’d be lying if he said his own omega wasn’t sulking at having been forced away from the alpha, but reluctantly keonho melted back into the shadows.

“taehyun,” martin called out as he stepped into view of the bedroom.

keonho watched as the omega pulled the balcony doors shut once he was inside, and did his best to distract the part of himself that wanted to follow after. he knew it wouldn’t end well for either of them if he did such a thing, mostly for himself.

what the fuck is wrong with you, keonho swore within his head, you don’t get this way about omegas, knock it off. he took deep breaths, eyes shut tight.

his alpha was relentless—mine.

it’s just some pretty omega, keonho was back to convincing himself that this wasn’t what it was, they are a copper coin a dozen.

no, his alpha snarled, not just some pretty omega.

“shut up,” keonho hissed aloud, the heels of his hands pressed tight to his eyes as he tried to focus and rid his head of the annoying voice. he couldn’t understand where this instinctual possessive nature was coming from—no omega had ever triggered this emotion within him.

different, was all his alpha rumbled in response, referring to the omega.

“keonho?”

keonho blinked his eyes open, ignoring the black spots that momentarily dotted his eyes, and was surprised to see the omega back so soon.

“i’m here,” he murmured as he stepped back out of the shadows.

the prince paused at the sight of him, eyes flicking down the length of him again while teeth bit gently at a lower lip. his hands still rested idlely on the doors behind him that he’d closed before calling the alpha’s name out. “there’s not much time. i asked taehyun—my personal servant, well, best friend—to fetch some tea for me.” his gaze had lowered to the floor now, as if he were debating his next words.

“but… i wanted to give you this.”

keonho watched as martin’s arms came forward from behind his back to reveal the item that he held in one hand. it was an omegan collar: a little over an inch in width and laced delicately with black diamonds amongst the white fabric. the silver clasp at the ends glittered from the moonlight hitting it just right as martin extended it towards the alpha.

“your… your collar?” keonho choked out, staring at martin as if he were crazy.

it was custom for unmated omegas to wear collars in public so that the vulnerable scent glands on their necks would be subdued and protected. once an omega was mated, a bite from an alpha to replace the collar, they were free to discontinue the use of one if they pleased. typically, the alpha required it so that the mating bite would be proudly shown instead of covered, so that others would know exactly who the omega belonged to.

keonho had only ever seen omegas with simple, cheap leather bands around their necks, a material commonly used amongst the lower classes. nothing like this.

martin shrugged, “it’s just a collar. and… i’m not even allowed to wear this one because my mother always complains that it is ugly, so… you should have it.”

carefully, keonho took the collar from martin, their fingertips brushing. and as he brought it closer, the scent of honeyed wildberries hit him full force, as if martin had taken the collar and rubbed the inner band of it along his scent gland diligently. perhaps he had?

“it’s my favorite collar, at least,” martin added, and the tone he used was apparent that he hoped that that statement meant something to the alpha. “and i don’t know, just… something for you to remember me by.”

keonho stared at the collar in his hand as martin’s words caused his heartbeat to ricochet to heights he didn’t know it could reach. he looked almost helplessly back at the omega. “i’m a thief, y’know?” he admitted, “how do you know i won’t just immediately go pawn this off to a seller?”

a smile came to martin’s lips at the words, “i mean, you can.” he turned to step back towards the doors then, “…but something tells me that you won’t.”

“wait!”

keonho pulled at the top of the white tunic he wore, the material tucked under the vest. just underneath was a maroon bandana tied loosely around his neck. it was something that he wore every single day, as it was easy to pull up and over the bottom half of his face when he either needed a quick disguise, or if a rogue dust storm decided to roll into town. of everything that he owned, it was the one item that was consistently doused in his scent and smelled heavily of him.

martin watched in amusement as keonho untied the cloth from around his neck and held it out.

“i give you a collar of diamonds and this is what you give me in return?” he teased.

“you don’t have to take it, your highness,” keonho replied with a small bite, already bringing the bandana back towards himself.

“i didn’t say that i didn’t want it,” martin was quick to clarify, snatching the cloth out of keonho’s hand before he could pull it away further.

keonho grinned at the prince’s sudden change in attitude, amusement dancing within his eyes as he observed the way that martin subtlely brought the bandana closer to his face and breathed in deeply. he wondered if the omega wanted to bury his nose within that cloth just the same as keonho wanted to with the collar that was now safely within the inside pocket of his vest.

a sudden sound from inside the bedroom had martin’s head snapping back towards the doors. he looked once more to keonho, swallowing hard before he whispered, “do you think… will i ever see you again?”

keonho couldn’t explain the urge that abruptly took over his chest. he wanted to step forward and pull the omega close, perhaps into a kiss or just a light scenting, anything really. but he also knew that he couldn’t, regardless of the alpha whining within.

at the end of the day, they were from two different worlds and this omega would never—could never—be his. that was just the way that it was.

but the funny thing about thieves, they never adhere to the laws and rules of the world;

and ahn keonho was no different.

“of course you will,” keonho smirked. he already had a leg over the stone railing, ready to plunge into the darkness below,

“you can’t get rid of me that easy, darling.”
