    The first time they met, John didn’t have high expectations. His mother had warned him that Simon wasn’t particularly extroverted, but that he was a very pleasant and intelligent person—someone he could have good conversations with.

    That day, John understood why his mother had lied so blatantly.

    When John approached him and extended a hand to help, Simon looked him up and down. Up and down. Him?!
    His expression said it all: I don’t like you. And honestly, John couldn’t agree more.
