Brynden’s pale eye sharpened. “There are times when I suspect you prefer the moral cleanliness of full proof because it spares you the uglier duties that come before it.”
The words landed cleanly.
For a breath or two neither man spoke.
Then Baelor said, more quietly, “You presume much.”
“No,” said Brynden. “I observe much.”
