Chapter Text
It had been a few weeks since they escaped the circus. Everything still felt weird. Too quiet, too normal, like something was missing, but Christine didn’t care about that right now.
She just wanted to find everyone else.
She spent a whole week looking. It wasn’t easy at all. Half the time she felt like she was just being stupid, like there was no way she’d actually find them. But she didn’t stop.
And somehow, she managed to find Jax.
Of course he was surprised. Like actually surprised. He didn’t expect anyone to go looking for him, especially not her. Still, they exchanged contacts, and after that, they started talking every day.
That’s when she found out his real name was Felix.
It felt strange calling him that. It made everything feel way more real than she wanted it to be.
But what surprised her more was something she didn’t want to admit.
She started catching feelings for him.
Christine would literally sit there after texting him, staring at her phone, wondering what was wrong with her. How could she fall for someone like him? He was still annoying, still sarcastic, still kind of an asshole.
And yet he made her laugh.
Way more than she expected.
----
One day, Christine and Felix ran into each other at a cafe.
It wasn’t planned or anything. They just happened to be there at the same time. So they sat together and started talking about random stuff. Nothing serious, just whatever came to mind.
Christine was talking when two people walked in.
She didn’t recognize them at all.
To her, they were just two random people. A girl with bright hair and a boy in a hoodie. Nothing unusual.
But Felix went completely quiet.
She noticed it immediately.
He turned around slowly, like he already knew what he was about to see.
The second he heard their voices clearly, his stomach dropped.
Ribbit.
Kaufmo.
There was no way.
It didn’t make sense. It shouldn’t have been possible. Abstraction was supposed to be the end. No coming back from that.
Christine frowned slightly. “What is it?” she asked, but he didn’t answer.
He just stood up.
Without explaining anything, he walked straight toward them.
Christine stayed at the table, confused, watching him.
Felix reached out and tapped the girl on the shoulder.
She turned around.
Up close, she was even prettier. She had a wolfcut with raccoon-like layers, brown roots fading into neon green. She wore an off shoulder black shirt with a TV Girl design and shorts with a small chain hanging from them.
Felix hesitated for a second, then said something Christine couldnt hear.
The girl froze.
Her eyes widened almost instantly.
She didn’t recognize his face right away, but his voice made something click.
“…Jax?”
She stared at him for a second like she was trying to be sure.
Then she threw her arms around him and hugged him tightly.
Felix looked shocked, but he hugged her back without thinking.
Christine watched from her seat, completely lost.
The boy that was with her turned around, confused at first, but as the girl started explaining quickly, his expression changed.
Recognition.
Relief.
He smiled.
He had dark blonde hair with brown roots, slightly messy. He was wearing a gray hoodie, baggy jeans, and simple sneakers.
Felix pulled back a little, still holding onto the girl like he was scared she’d disappear.
“…Kaufmo?”
The boy laughed softly.
“Never thought I'd see you again Jax, but I'm glad I did"
Felix just stared at him for a second.
For once, he didn’t have anything sarcastic to say.
He just smiled.
And this time, it actually felt real.
Back at the table, Christine was still sitting there, trying to understand what she had just witnessed.
She didn’t know who they were.
But somehow…
She had a feeling everything was about to change.
